  • does poting the head make the bike unreliable?

  • @froback

the guy in the bsr shop( r6 head) said you not.

    i agree with him.

a lack of maintenance make a vehicle unreliable.

if you port a head the only result will be a better efficience and more hp

if you go too deep you can go to a water channel ....

the thing is to do it right :

to match the gaskets and to create a smooth and direct passage to the combustion chamber without turbulences and loose of air speed.

  • @froback nope,unless its done incorrectly

  • Does anyone know where to buy the long shank felt bobs like he uses in the vid?

  • @SimplySunnySide eastwood sells kits

  • That's a Foredom flex-shaft grinder or a clone of one. It's like a high-powered Dremel.

  • The tool looks the same as the Dremmel I have.

  • you can use a dremel, they work great.

  • what is the tool your using to do the port work called ?

  • i think its an air compressed die grinder

  • woop e....

  • For proper fuel atomization you want a coarse finish in the intake ports,I use a 36 grit cartridge roll as a flap.

  • wrong

  • Hi, Mr "have a go" here! I've a spare cylinder head for my bike that I was thinking of porting (smooth the area around the values and "flow" the exhaust port). Bit optimistic, but any basic tips? A friend reckoned that I should leave the inlet port alone as any sharp edges might be there to encourage "swirl" to mix the air/fuel mixture? Assume that when doing the valve area I should; avoid valve seats and take as little material away from the compression area? (Yam T/Cat 4TV), Steve

  • your friend is an idiot

  • Yawn

  • wow thats mature

  • Well help me out then. I know jack sh*t about porting and "yes" maybe I'd better leave to the pro's. But have a spare head and some time..so thought I'd give it a go. I wasn't convinced with the "swirl" argument, so he is ill informed then?

  • yes anything that obstructs air flow is bad

best way to port intake and exhaust without going to far is to take the gaskets and cut the opening a little bigger then place it over the port and use a marker to show where it's oversized and grind until you see no more marker and check and see how the fit is

and everything else is just smoothing and remember the shinier the better use a high a grit as you can

  • Cool, thanks for that....I'm assuming that I don't have to listen to the Chilli Peppers when porting!!!

  • no, thats optional

but it is deffinately somthing you might want to consider

  • Look up david vizard i learned loads from reading his articles what type of bike is it I might have one on the shelf already done.

  • porting is not an easy job

  • Porting......what a bitch!
