In case you're wondering how the U.S. president is chosen, a democratic vote is called for every four years traditionally, whereby the president is chosen arfter tallying individual ballots by those who vote.

@djkoyama1 Well, you assumed I was calling her an "intolerant asshole" because of her beliefs, when in fact I'm pretty tolerant towards religious people in my town. When their oppinions beggin to interfere with other peoples lives and their basic rights (universal rights, made by MEN) then we have a problem. So in this case, I judjed her because she's just being intolerant. I dont care if she's being true to her beliefs, because she doesn't have the brains to see that her beliefs are intolerant!

@nunobelo its not that she doesn't have the brains. its just how she was raised. so you can't totally blame her. blame the parents. but still, her beliefs are pretty sad. people can do with their lives however they see fit for themselves and stupid people like this disgust me. don't tell others what they can or can't do. that is all

@nunobelo I'm gay and I think her opinion is perfectly valid, I'm not offended, I think if you're going to get all angry and rude towards her, then you're no better then the people who are actually discriminating against gay people. I guess you're just old fashioned, but I believe that everybody has the right to a voice, just because you don't agree, doesn't make you right or her a bad person.

Ummmmkay.........ya, she IS one of the people who are actually discriminating against gays. Did you know that she was the spokesperson for one of the largest anti-gay hate groups in the USA?

BUT....she does not have a right to be Miss USA, She does not have a right to be popular, and she does not have a right to avoid accountability for her voice. Don't you agree?

@clubindiana4 I guess you make a valid point, although I'm struggling a bit with some of that. I mean, she can only be as popular as there are people who agree with her, she didn't get booed she was applauded for saying what she thought. I'm not American, so I don't know much of her outside this scenario, but it actually doesn't change my view on the situation if I'm honset. Miss USA represents America, even if you don't agree with it, her view is probably shared by the majority of Americans

There was a time when it was extremely popular to burn non-catholioc christians at the stake.....did the popularity factor make it right?

@clubindiana4 No, I completely agree with you that what's popular isn't always what's right, all I was saying is that wether she's popular or not is dependant on those who agree with her. I'm glad to see that times are changing though, I'm not sure if I myself agree with gay marriage though, which might come across funny. I'm all for equal rights, but I see marriage as more of a religious ceremony, perhaps an introduction like here in england of civil partnership could work?

I agree....unfortunately, the only time this compromise is ever acceptable to the American Religious Right is after the pro-gay marriage lobby has defeated them and full equal gay marriage is a looming reality.
I believe that equal civil marriage is the answer.........however, when this option is put forth you quickly discover that this issue is more about control of marriage than secular compromise.

@WelcomeToMyParade You're totaly right, I agree with you. However I dont like to be naive, like some of you. This isn't just a matter of "having an opinion". It's obvious that there is an agenda behind all these "opinions". A religious one. Well, maybe in the usa case it's more cultural than religious at this point... I also think that intolerance generates more intolerance from other people. For instance, because of her intolerant behaviour I became intolerant myself.

@nunobelo Well I live in England, it's very mixed race here and there's loads of different beliefs, I have straight friends, christian friends, muslim friends, gay friends. I'm around transgendered people and black peope, wether it be cultural or religious, I'm very tolerant despite all that happens in the media and around the world. I know that I probably come across as naive, but I don't think it's such an impossible thing for everybody to have different opinions and still be tolerant.
