  • thumbs up if ur watchin this in 2012

  • I remember going to see this when it first came out.

  • This is the original and best! HM 2000 sucked in comparison

  • Isn't that cool that this movie is a cult classic and a fave among directors like James Cameron (This is one of his fave animated movies), Zack Snyder, Guillermo Del Toro, Michael Bay and more. In fact this was one of Sucker Punch's influences including one of Avatar's influences and Fifth Element's influences

  • sammy hagar - heavy metal

  • I found a VHS tape in my home, and was this movie. so great

  • We should have this voice to do the trailers again instead of the douche that's doing trailer now.

  • why cant they make a decent heavy metal 3 film...

  • "THIS SUMMER...FOR THE FIRST TIME...COMING TO HOME VIDEO"

Asked a couple of years ago, but thought I'd give it another shot.

Is the trailer shown above the theatrical trailer only with different text? Or was a different trailer shown in the theaters.

  • LOL

  • You Want Bitchin? I saw Heavy Metal for the first time after seeing A Clockwork Orange for the first time. Thank you Cinemax in the 90's, you rocked a 12 year old's world.

    And a link please?

  • @TEHGROUND how do you not know that song

  • Harry canyon= bruce willies in The Fifth Element

  • @parabutis

Yes indeed. Don't forget some parts of Avatar and even Sucker Punch were influenced by the movie and magazine since Synder and cameron are fans of the movie and magazine

  • One of my favorite movies of all time.

  • For a new HM movie, i think Michael Bay should do a segment since he is a fan of this movie and the magazine and would be his first time doing animation

  • dude it all looks like Brutal Legend only just more babes

  • Hard to believe this is 30 years old!!

  • would be a great adult swim show

  • this is a masterpiece todays hollywood shouldn't touch

  • @highspeedheadbanger

Fifth Element is already live-action HM

  • I love this movie but wondered if they used bands like iron maiden dio and motorhead for the movie's soundtrack

  • thumbs up if ur watchin this in 2011

  • @liljhstyles123 What do I get in return if I give you a 'thumbs up'?

  • Interestingly, this movie was released in theatres. But oddly, Heavy Metal 2000, which came out almost 20 years after the original was never released theatrically. Sometimes I wonder why.

  • I remember finding this film with my friends as a kid from my dads VHS colletion, it exceeded all expectations.

  • What is the theme song for this movie?? Please help I can't find it

  • @pimpbranmuffin turn on annotations and read them or google heavy metal soundtrack

  • @arcadeshopper It's Heavy Metal by Sammy Hagar

  • @pimpbranmuffin It's a Sammy Hagar song called heavy metal.

  • @pimpbranmuffin takin' a ride- Don Felder ;)

  • Well, the song that plays at the beginning of the film is Radar Rider by Riggs. Later in the film, there's two songs, Heavy Metal by Sammy Hagar, and Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) by Don Felder.

  • @pimpbranmuffin i think its Takin' a Ride by Don Felder

  • @pimpbranmuffin "Heavy Metal" by Sammy Hagar

  • @pimpbranmuffin its heavy metal by sammy hagar

  • @pimpbranmuffin It's Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) by Don Felder

  • @pimpbranmuffin its called heavy metal by sammy hagar

  • For awhile, this was the best adult animated movie ever made. Today, it's still in the top 20. No matter how you rank this film, it's a well hand drawn masterpiece. I've still got my old VHS copy of this.

  • @Boogyman4050

    On par with Akira eh?

  • I would love to see this movie again , I saw this movie at the drivein in Darwin in the 80s and it just blew my mind , Is it available in australia on dvd?

  • What year is this trailer released for this film?

  • Heavy Metal is so freakin sweet! I got the bluray last week. Looks great in HD, 1 of the best surround sound movie ever

  • I was too young in 1981, but saw it in the late 80's with my friends at a midnight showing in Westbury, LI. The crowd was smoking, tossing beer cans, etc. It was awesome!

  • Great Animation for 1981.

  • \m/

  • I saw this at the Drive In when it came out. It was truly awesome.

  • i had never heard of this movie until james sang the song from it

  • i loved this film and it featured harold ramis(dr egon spengler)

from ghostbusters as one of the voice tallents and it was produced

by ivan reitman and the creative fx team from ghostbusters but

heavy metal 2000 was one story not five interconnecting stories

that was seen in the first film and there are talks of a third heavy metal

animated film and james cameron wants to both produce and direct it.

  • Heavy metal for eveeeer!!!

  • james durbin did a awesome cover.

  • James Durbin rocked the song on American Idol!

  • Speaking of HM, someone please do an Avatar (Cameron)/HM crossover trailer with footage from this movie set to the audio of Avatar's trailer since they are similar movies

  • I remember my father taking me and my two brothers to a matinee. We were early teens. The girl at the ticket counter refused to let us in even with pops! Explaining further that the film was originally rated X! Adult orientated animation films and Mags(Heavy Metal,Epic etc) kicked ass.

  • For anyone who grew up in the 80's like i did as a kid, does anyone else remember this other cool HM-esque animated movie called "Warriors of the Wind"? it was the original 1985 butchered cut of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind that had Hal Smith, Linda Gary of He-Man fame and Cam Clark who played Kenda on the original dub of Akira and leonardo from Ninja Turtles. I did when i was 4 years old and had my parents tape it for me from rental tape to second VCR on second VHS.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I do, I saw it on HBO back then, I must have been about 5 or 6. Lovely film. Took me for years to find out what it was. I've now owned the dvd of Nausicaa for a couple of years now.

  • BEST CANADIAN ANINATED FILM EVER! :)

  • BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone thinks this is another of those movies/sources along with the magazine that James Cameron borrowed for his new movie "Avatar"? he is a fan of this cult classic plus the comic magazine. So now Avatar is a combination of Star Wars, Dances with Wolves, Heavy Metal, Dune, Lightyears, Fantastic Planet, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Ferngully, Wizards, Total Recall, Castle in The sky, Last of the Mohicans, Willow and Lawrence of Arabia combined, ain't i right folks?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Pfff, all those were based on my life, bro.

  • Then go rent it for chrissake

  • ...Oh my Jesus I want to watch this movie.

  • Just saw this film yesterday for the time. From VHS and it was uncut. aww man that was pure magic.

  • I remmeber when american animation was so badass as anime

  • @Bikendi100

    Me too,

  • @Bikendi100

Let's not forget Euro-animation adult animated classics like Fantastic Planet or LightYears

  • Good Ass Movie!!

  • This is one of the inspirations to both Avatar and Fifth Element big time since both James Cameron and Luc Besson are fans of this cult classic and the adult comic magazine, even Avatar felt like a big screen issue of HM comic magazine since HM magazine was one of the inspirations as well.

  • Man, this movie could have ONLY been made in the early 80s. Everything about it, screams it.

Just picked this up on Blu-ray tonight. Can't wait to watch it in hi-def! Love this flick. Great soundtrack. Unique in that amongst Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult and Cheap Trick, fucking DON FELDER wrote the best tune (All Of You).

  • i got the frist adds on paper back lol comic .... ....and elf quest and so on ..tada ...nomad.......from the 80ish and 70ish

  • I found this movie in one of my grandpa's cabinets when I was seven. My grandma walked in on me watching it during the sex scene with the taxi driver. Awkward. She made me turn it off but I just took it into the other room.

  • good movie the green ball

  • HEAVY ( . Y . ) METAL

  • @CrankUpProductions HEAVY (|) METAL

  • @johnlindsey

Heavy Metal is not a japanese production, though it doesn't look like your average US cartoon.

  • @DieWeltIstSchlecht that's cuz it's Canadian

  • this is like anime before anime xD

  • @diddywonton

Of course, in Japan they make plenty of great not for kids cartoons. Heavy Metal, Wizards, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ninja Scroll, Rock and Rule, Fist of the North Star, Fire and Ice, Golgo 13, Starchaser: Legend of Orin, Wicked City, Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2, Beowulf, Urotsukidoji, South Park The Movie, Heavy Traffic, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa and others are the best not for kids animated movies.

  • @Johnlindsey289

Please tell me calling 'South Park the Movie' Japanese is sarcasm. I can forgive calling Heavy Metal Japanese- that's only a little bit stupid. But South Park?

(Also Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa are aimed at all ages, Studio Ghibli doesn't treat kids like idiots, is all)

  • @XelleohelleX Wait what? You would accept people calling Heavy Metal japanese? get some sense...

  • I watched this when I was 10 and I think I was scarred for life O_O

  • Being in high school when this movie first came out, it was my first real introduction to a lot of early 80s metal bands, and I've never looked back. 30 years later, \m/

  • This is what i wanted to wake up watching again just like in the 90's and 80;s but now i wake up i see crap rap and pop and hip hop and r&b music >:p

  • This film has everything.

  • Best way to watch Heavy metal the movie...

40 inch LCD TV, HDMI connection to an upconverting all region PAL/NTSC DVD player, play it in PAL mode(this will come out enhanced PAL video(with progressive scan) in your NTSC LCD TV(HDMI connection).

Closest Thing to Blu Ray and the UK DVDs are cheaper even with the postage to CANADA than buying it locally.

  • @Bander1 Best way to watch Heavy Metal, as a young teenager with your school buds back in 1981.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s Ya RIGht i got in trouble for bringing the magazines to school!!! but that when i was in 6th grade ;D

  • @chroniclerofthe70s

Do you have a Time Machine?

  • @chroniclerofthe70s I do my best as a young teenager with my school buds now, in 2011. \m/

  • @Bander1 Are DVD's cheaper in UK than Canada?

  • I remember being intrigued by the poster as a kid. I was reall

  • a great cult classic

  • 0:59 that'd make for a badass print

  • :38

Is that the Adams Family house?

  • this n the 2nd part was awesome!!!r there any similar animated movies like these??

  • @xino951

i recommend: Akira, Wizards, Ghost in The Shell, Fire and Ice, Fritz The Cat, Starchaser Legend of Orin, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, South Park The Movie, Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2, Princess Mononoke, Fist of the North Star, Heavy Traffic, Robot Carnival, Pink Floyd The Wall, Yellow Submarine, Planet Hulk, Haunted World of El Superbeasto, Nausicaa, Cowboy Bebop The Movie, Urotsukidoji, Perfect Blue, Golgo 13 The Professional, Lightyears and Rock and Rule.

  • @Johnlindsey289

you left out dirty duck , it is seriously the best one

  • @iluvlysergicacidDye

Oh yes that is a great one, very nice. Seen any of the recommendations i mentioned especially the best adult animated movies known as Akira and Ghost in The Shell?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Hey, dude, you seriously have got taste! Respect!

  • @Coyotefreak667

thank you, i respect that. I enjoyed any kind of animated movie especially ones that are for mature audiences.

  • Cartoon film and Rated R, that's NICE

  • I first this movie on my way down to the South Atlantic in 82'... This film still kicks ass!

  • how old is this movie lol

  • @annondood

    29 years :p I highly recommend though

  • @mrmkowals2 I've actually heard this movie is VERY good. lol. I love Metal. :D

  • BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!

  • Who else remembers this on TBS back in the early 90's as an 11 or 12 year old? i did when i was 12 years old back in 93 watching it with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, Amercian Pop, Hey Good Looking and Rock and Rule. I got hooked into adult animation thanks to this and even to Akira, rewatching Wizards and Fire and Ice (After not seeing them in long since kidhood) when i was 13.

  • Best animation movie EVER!!!

  • @DJordydj

Awesome movie, it's up with Wizards, Akira and Ninja Scroll. Ain't i right?

  • black sabbath \m/ yeah!!

  • The video game equivalents to the heavy metal segments are:

    Harry canyon/ Duke nukem

    Den / Brutal Legend

    Captain sterrn/ halo

B-19/ Call of duty: big red one

So beautiful yet so dangerous / Mass effect

    Tarrna /Tomb Raider

  • saw it the other day. its so awesome!!! Some parts are hard to not laugh at cause it reminds me of South park.

  • Prolly my favorite Animated Movie of all time!

  • weirdest cartoon ever lol

  • It's a shame the trailer is so bad when the film is so good.

  • HEAVY METAL!!!!

  • This looks like true B grade stuff.

  • It was well made in every section and every story of the film. Artisticaly it was a great sci-fi with clues that clearly made it more adult-friendly (which I think is neccesary since some parts look like other kids cartoons) and all the stories were well-written.

I wouldn't consider it a regular movie since ths is something very different and original. I recommend it to those who are already familiar with adult animation movies and shows. It was really worth my time. My personal favorite B-17

  • @SoylentMilk my 9 year old kid wants to see "HEAVY METAL" I never saw what is it about do you think we would like it. i never heard of it until my kid saw it on the blockbuster video shelf do you think we would like it. i never saw it

  • @thecoolj45221 Heavy Metal is an adult cartoon and not for children, it has way to much gore violence and sexuality in it for a 9 year old to be watching.

  • Can anyone suggest me similar movies?

Something like Heavy Metal 1981, Heavy Metal 2000, Fire And Ice 1983???

  • @WishmasterTheDark Well Rock and Rule, Wizards, American Pop, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Wicked City, Ninja Scroll and Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend are some really cool ones to check out if you haven't already.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheAltair4

    What about Fire and Ice?

  • @WishmasterTheDark

Fist of the North Star, Blade Runner, Princess Mononoke, Avatar, Brazil, Time Bandits, Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Starchaser: Legend of Orin, Golgo 13 The Professional, The Dark Crystal etc.

  • I remember the comics in the early 80's. Excellent artwork to put it lightly. Good craftsmanship. True artists- not that Marvel Comics stuff.

  • Hell yeah.

  • Another Canadian masterpiece.

  • @righteousmotherfuck

    Gotta agree with that.

  • Disappointed in the film. I expected much more from the animation. Good story, good backdrops, good soundtrack, good over all pictures, good trailer. The animation itself, however, with so little frames per second? Not so good. If Disney could have done their stuff, why couldn't have these guys? I thought that some of the top animators were working on it- so I was told. I don't think so. I still give Heavy Metal 3 stars of five. Heavy Metal 2000 however? We won't go there.

  • @filmbuff98 I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this film in any way. I'll admit that some of the hand drawn and rotoscoped animation may seem a little rough around the edges, but that is all a part of it's gritty charm and a part of what makes this film so unique from so many other animated films that have very slick, polished animation. This film is a true masterpiece in every sense of the word. I never tire of seeing it and i've watched more times than i would really care to admit.

  • @TheAltair4

It is an awesome movie too. I grew up with it since 18 years ago when i was 12 when i was looking at my city's TV guide and stated Heavy Metal animated fantasy along with Vampire Hunter D as i watched them and loved them. I also watched American Pop, Robot Carnival, Watership Down, Rock and Rule and Hey Good Looking. Loved them too as i taped each movie from the video rental stores in my city, how old were you when you saw HM and had you had a crush on Taarna too?

  • I watched this at a movie theater in Vancouver when it first came out in 1981. It was awesome!

  • Few years back, I saw this in one of the Straz channels one late night and I fell in love with it.

I now own the dvd special edition of it:) And the soundtrack.

  • One of 6 of my favorite adult animated films.

  • Comment removed

  • that is sammy hagar singing the title track

  • has been a real fav, like MATRIX, or AVATAR...

  • this movie gives whole new meaning to not for kids cartoons

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome movie. Back then people was not ready for this. If it was released nowdays, it would be huge hit in theathers

  • I grew up with this movie since i was 11 back in 93 watching it on TBS with other kickass animated movies like Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop etc. which all rocked my world.

Who had the same experience of watching this in 93 with those movies on TBS?

  • This is a weird movie, i want to see it NOW!!!

  • The Kentucky Fried Movie by Ralph Bashki.

  • cooler than ironman

  • Heavy Metal?

  • I went to see this movie when it came out in 81, still a kick ass movie
