@1lupus This is one of Ovation's more recent guitars. Also its not a very high end one... probably one of their "celebrity" series. I own a much older version, it has a standard sound hole, but the thing that sets it apart is its molded back. Not only does it have a really nice feel to it, but it has a very strong sound to it. Granted it is a little bit bright for some folk, but i really enjoy it.
@jaknife1102 LOL I have since seen some of the higher end ovations and they don't sound too bad at all. This just happened to be the first time I had heard one and it was not a good introduction to the brand. But as I said some of their instruments that I have heard since are sweet. My ear likes the Paul Reed Smith Hollowbodies but my wallet doesn't.
Dude, what are you talking about? Drop D and half a step down are not alternate tunings. They make hardly any difference. Anyway, playing an instrumental half a step down is pointless because people only tune down from standard to accomodate a singers comfortable singing range.
You play guitar. The most comfortable keys for guitar, which are incidentally the keys that most music is written in for the instrument, are G and its relative minor, Em.
When you say you "play chords faster", you do not. If you mean you play the simplified mess called a "rock power chord", you're right. Though I hope you don't drop it to D to use the D as a pedal point.
That's not necessarily true. People play in lowered standard tunings because they want less tension on the strings... for bending or perhaps to more easily barre chords.
I still do not understand why so many god damn people do not tune their frikken guitar before posting a video of them playing...soo annoying, i mean it takes like 3 minutes!!come on!!
some of you are idiots this is obviously his style and the audio isnt all that great to begine with but id like to see any one of you play what this guy just played bet you cant cause i sure in hell couldnt
Gahd, OK Stupid people. Every guitar sounds different, and people like guitars for different reasons. Don't you remember how fun it was to bang pots as a kid? Your parents thought it was noise but you thought it was good soundin stuff.. same shit. I like bangin pans myself.
f*ck those ppl with bad comments, I like your style... you really have something there, interesting melody, and a different approach. It's really good. keep it up and post some more! what's your tuning, btw?
I've got an ovation and its a lovely instrument, just obvisouly this guy hasnt it set up right is all. Some crazy direct-to-pc plug jazz going on. Ovations - not half bad if done right.
Far as your song is ma, i entirely see what your trying to do, and if produced in a recording studio with techies and boom mics etc it would sound lovely - but right now on youtube just a little bit messy is all, either way - good try man :)!
I do believe that ovations can sound good. I got one myself and I just love it for it's playability and it's tone but these guitars sound best when plugged in not trough some crappy computer mikrophone
love the style. to fully appreciate it, i think you might try a different room, or camera, or maybe plug in. i dunno, it sounds like its great, but it needs to be... more full?
you're sick

I don't tune down for the singer, I tune to drop D because I can play chords faster and most songs I write are in D.

Sounds very de-tuned and strange. Not unpleasant, but slightly odd. Like Leo Kottke playing Indian folk music.

very cool, what tuning you in there?
Drbagu 5 years ago
From the sounds of it possibly open C? C#? Which is C, G, C, G, C, C or of course # if tuned up a half step. Probably wrong but it's a little guess.
