People believe that Scientology is a cult, rather than a religion, which manipulates/ brainwashes/ forces people to do certain things and then is secretive about it. It's a rather closed-off religion, which is why many fear it. He follows it and behaves it the strangest of ways sometimes, that's why people don't like him.

It destroys families, gets the victims, sorry, followers in huge debt so that they commit suicide (they beleive they will come back to life debt free. It doesnt recognise autism leading to John Travoltas son going untreated. If you try to leave the organisation they send letters to your boss saying youre a criminal. The put tell lies about you to your neigbours.
