@Squiggles2O13 cheat it like i do. don't play the 8th fret on the G string. just play what you're supposed to on the B string. if you are playing with a recording, which i mostly do, it sounds fine.

@Squiggles2O13 thats cause Ed played it dif, its a 5 note phrase but the first two notes are the same, e on the b string and then open e on six of course, and then your pulloffs its really an easy riff, the played e and the open e sound slightly dif which fools the ears and makes you think they are diff notes but they are not

Pete, great cover --but, it seems to me EVH cycles (tap and the pull off) as follows: 7 cycles,tapping 9 over 2-5, shift up/ 8 on 10 over 2-5 - shift/ 6 on 10 over 4-7, shift/ 3cycles tapping 12 over 4-7) then 7 cycles on 12 over 5-9, . .shift/ 6 cycles tapping 13 over 5-8, shift/ 2 cycles tapping 15 over 5-8, shift / 6 cycles tapping 15 over 7-10 / then 12 full cycles on the final 17 before the decline licks. Certainly doesn't measure out evenly in bars, does it?

I can't create the EVH sound, because I only have a simple BulletStrat (without humbuckers), an amp with Drive and Reverb, and a Delay/Echo; but I couldn't wait for the other effects: this solo is too amazing and too amusing and you teach it in the best way! Play Eruption with any type of guitar is simply fantastic and I will be able to do this because those videos can help everyone.

it could be a lot of things, but are you just a starting guitarist? if so you may need to strengthen your fingers.

i also had a lot of trouble with getting volume on my pull offs, just keep going at it and your fingers will get stronger and faster.

Isn't there a little bit between that and the bend ? because it sounds a bit like there is a 5th fret on the high e in between. It sounds the lick you're playing at 5:52 is in between those two riffs . might just be me tho

Eddie apparently loved Les Pauls. He recorded quite a bit with them (You Really Got Me is an obvious example) and he even played them live in the early days.

You just will have to get creative for the whammy bar parts. If you listen to Eddie's solos live, he never played "Eruption" note for note anyway.

Thanks for the excellent note-by-note! I've been bouncing back and forth between these vids and my slow-it and loop-it software and I think I found an "Easter Egg". Between the bend on G@7 (Gstr @ 7th fret) and the "hammer-on pull-off riff (around 4:20 in the vid 0:05 in the album track), Eddie plays B@5, E@5, B@5, then a quick (same speed as the hamer-on pull-offs that follow) pull-off from G@7 to G@5.

I think its important for newbies to understand thats@ 5:02 and @ 6:58 these phrasings are quintuplets. I say this because many a time I have seen new guitarists play this as a sextuplet with a rest on the last 1/16 for example. tri-pe-let tri-pe-rest! But even though its close its not quite right count to 5's and not 6's I think a video annotation might be appropriate here as some may not see this as it gets pushed down. You are an awesome teacher by the way and a fine player.
