Hi Amelia, love your videos they've given me lots to think about. I have been thinking for a little while about how to rinse the quinoa, and I think the best solution would be to buy one of those reusable coffee filters. You know the kind you can wash and reuse forever? The mesh is so fine that I think it would work well. Keep up the good work!
thanks for sharing this, i've decided to add quinoa into my and my daughters diet...i had NEVER heard of it and in the last 6 months, everyone is talking about it!!!!!
Hi Amelia & Joel, thanks for sharing this video. The funny thing about Quinoa, is that my daughter was ranting & raving about it before I had my surgery. In fact, she had fixed some for me once. I kept trying to tell my dietician about it & couldn't remember the name, then I find out she had a post about the benefits of Quinoa on the surgery site. You can get some that is washed already. I wash it in a sieve under running water. I add my cooked Quinoa to olive oil & fresh herbs. Thx 4 sharing!
just have a question not related to this video. do you have any pains any where. i have a problem with my tail bone . i have lost 154 pounds and it hurts to sit normal i have to lean forward or off to the side .
Just read an article about hormones in soy causing lower testosterone interesting: "Dr Fuhrman: Totally untrue, that is a biased, meat-promoting article written to bash soy. If soy did lower testosterone it might be good because the high-meat American diet causes an excess of testosterone, leading to higher prostate cancer risk. Nevertheless this is not true anyway. See the study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Anyway I love soy myself. Milk is for cows. :-)
I looked this up online for nutrional facts...and I found this really interesting. Uncooked it has 24g's of protein, but once you cook it it only has 8g's for a cup.
That's because the grains swell and increase in volume when you cook it, so you're getting less "stuff" in the cooked version. Uncooked, there are more grains in a cup. Cooking it doesn't cause it to lose protein or anything.
He drinks a TON of silk and silk products, he says he doesn't mind the possibility of those side effects. He has regular testosterone checks so its cool
Hey Amelia! I'm going on my one-year surgiversary! Lost 170 pounds! Never tried this, but needing more protein! I'll get some next time we're at Whole Foods. LOVE that store! Thanks!
You can look this up through Google. I did, and it has protein in it but it's still mostly carbs. A 1/2 cup serving only has about 4g protein with about 23 carbs. But it's still a better choice than white rice, etc.
You two are so frickin' cute!!! I've never eaten this myself -- but I make it for my birds! Maybe I will have to give it a try during my next break, THANKS for the proper cooking directions :)
Awesome cooking video, I am going to try adding some splenda brown sugar in it cause it looks like hot cereal to me...I have never heard of Quinoa and I have never tried grits before so this is new to me..

Quinoa is an Incan super grain originated from PERU, highly regarded in that culture for its nutritional benefits. Just a quick fact, Thanks :)

Soybeans have a natural form of estrogen. SILK is not good for men.

Thanks for the reply. If I were drinking a lot of that silk stuff or eating alot of soy, I would have the doctor check my estrogen levels.

Thanks for the vid. I think Whole Foods carries a Quinoa pasta, too - that could be interesting - I didn't realize it was so high in protein.
