I am a complete newbie, so I had trouble reaching some of the chords (especially the "C maj-7" chord) so I came up with some alternate chords:

Am: Put your index finger on the 1st fret, 2nd string. Play string 1, 2 and 5.

C maj-7: Put your index finger on the 1st fret, 2nd string. Put your middle finger on the 2nd fret, 5th string. Play string 1, 2 and 5.
