In fact Saturn lacked light sourcing completely! And hardware video decoding, which was a big deal at the time. And quads, don't even get me started. Needless to say quads were a bad Idea... Tombraider...

Don't get me wrong I love both systems and still play them today. But face the facts, 3D on the Saturn was clearly an after though.

And even in software there are thing that you simply can't or wouldn't want to do because it uses way too much possessing power. And both systems did not have same real-world poly count, not even close.

@segano1 I heard that the Saturn was nototoriously hard to develop for so many would-be developers were turned off by the difficulty adapting to it.

BUT! To be fair, the learning curve and compatibility are all very important parts in game console development, not just the power. For example, look at computer programming languages: Assembly is technically all hardware needs and can be optimal, but its much harder to learn and much less portable than say C++ or Java making it less preferred.

@segano1 Thats not entirely true. The Saturn had some serious 2D capability's But in the 3D department is was trailing behind the PSX.

The Saturn lacked alfa blending and the PSX could push more polys. Look at Resident Evil 1 side by side on the two systems too see an example of this. You can see the same on quite a few other multi-platform games released for the two systems.

Saturn is technically an amazing system. Games that actually tapped into the Saturn's true core were stunning.

I remember desperately trying to learn/understand some Japanese with the game and I didn't even understand all the subtitles back then (always taking notes and then checking the dictionary XD)

It's TEAM ANDROMEDA and they cant program a new game because they disbanded after the release of Saga back in 1998.

if you still have the game, it emulates ok using cassini. if it locks up at points, theres a program called turbo you can use to slow down your processor. gets you past those glitches :)i keep my saturn safely tucked away, and this video means i want to play PDS again. guess i should go get cassini :D

the graphics on the saturn are unbelievable, the console was originally not even suposed to be a 3D console, a year before it released, Sega added their own arcade graphic processors into the console, and look how good it is... this thing eats the playstation for lunch.

Dude this is a Sega Saturn game, the console before the Dreamcast. Also, Dreamcast really wasnt programmed to it's fullest (except the shenmue games) where this game pushed the Saturn to its FARTHEST potential.

It's the best way they could have thought to end PD Saga - Fighting every type of dragon, like fighting your own dragon, then fighting the God-like, dragon-like creature which throws every other thing nightmare from the dragon's past (from past games) at you...(e.g. 'Shellcoof', the ship from PD2: Zwei). Ah, the memories come flooding back...

I remember playing the final boss over and over to power level my dragon to lvl 100 to see if anything special came out of it. I got to 90 something then got distracted by another game. I gotta bust out my saturn and continue the journey for old times sake.

heh thanks ^_^ This is actually the UK version but my sega saturn was bought years ago as a modified machine that has a switch for usa, UK and japanese games. Not all english games work properly though especially those that are pal optimised as those have graphical glitches on my machine.
