  • The creepyist part is when you can't sleep and this comes on your ipod . I was scared of my own pillow... but beautiful anyways!

  • I love how when she's saying it her voice is almost broken which reflects on how to "break" somebody's heart. And possibly her "army" is all of us Plague rats. And i also think that MsLizzieBlue is right on some level, but that the 'Women in white nightgowns' could be the people that work in a mental institute, and possibly care for those who have attempted suicide.

just my personal opinion on the poem, not saying that I'm right, because with poetry, you can never be wrong! :p

  • @xxplasticbarbiexx It's about suicide (that's what my teacher said to me... she wouldn't let me recite it..)

  • Is it really so hard to understand? SIGH

  • wait...isnt the end cut off?

  • Brrrrr.... Creepy.... huhh... :D

  • Miss Autumn, you majestic, cryptic, talented, beautiful woman.

I could listen to her voice all day.

  • I'm so confused!! Someone please explain this poem. It's so beautiful but I must know what it's about!! :D

  • i once had my ipod on shuffle and this song came on. I was already woken up by a scary dream and it was three in the morning.

I've never been more scared in my life

  • I've noticed that a lot of people do not understand this poem...yet I do. If you want me to explain, p.m me.

  • </3

  • How to break a heart is to shoot someone I suppose But my armies are not inclined to listen to your following comments..not just yet

  • The title sugests the poems about love

I believe it is about people who have been heart broken commiting suicide "White Night Gowns" makes me think of a theartrical suicide, and the title suggest the heart break also the " a hand gun is a girls best friend" relates back to suicide and the end saying " the questions useless" is saying that asking her if she has a broken heart is useless ask her army of broken hearted people what this is like, and they are not helping u i make no sense

  • I believe this poem is about how in the Victorian age, if a woman was no longer wanted by a man, he could send her away to an asylum, as in 'ladies in white nightgowns'. The 'a small handgun is a girl's best friend' could be about how to escape abuse and/or rape they had to kill their husband's, et cetera.

  • It really makes me cry :'(

  • i semi get it :D

  • Hmm...I barely get this poem, but I think it might be against someone who asks her if she can break a heart while trying to flirt with her. And she replies with the fact how easy it is to break someone's heart. The question could be "Can you break a heart?" but maybe what the person against her was trying to say is "Do you want to go out with me?" secretely .The ladies could be from her Asylum Army, who don't want to grant favours now. Or ghosts or the voices in her head.

  • @Romanee92 This piece might be about a woman wanting to kill herself to escape the orders of the dominant men.

"just find the light, and switch it off" implies the end of something.

"a girl's best friend is a small handgun" hints at suicide.

"by ladies in white nightgowns" could be a referral to a period where women were often considered the weaker sex.

well that's my interpretation. it's well written though. the ambiguity simply makes it intriguingly captivating.

  • @rjvsngh09 Oh could very well be! I am sure the ladies in white nightgowns are a hint at the victorian age, but could be victorian ghosts as well. The girl's best friend is a small handgun could be either murder or suicide. I think it could be about how girls in the victorian age dealt with love as well Emilie's own experiences...

  • this pome is like my favorite evern more then Poe and thats saying a lot... it reminds me of what happened to me last year soo much

  • I get the whole poem..except for the "In Dripping Weeds" part..I am not from England or America so I'm not that familar to english/americans expressions. The only Weed I would know off is the plant that you can smoke. So can anyone please, in a polite way, tell me what it means? :)

  • @Mumzzen well for some reason I imagine dark weeds dripping and hanging from the girls. So With the imagine it brings to mind it makes me think they are girls, ghosts of girls who had been drowned. Which could be linked to her "in the lake" song.

  • @boiper And also the song "swallow"! Thanks! It gives more sense now :)

  • @Mumzzen Yup~ and You're welcome <3

  • Wow, I never heard the voices in the background but now I did! It's creepy, yet very beautiful. I love this poem. :o <3

  • 8D her peoms are so amazing but they are the more amazing just because she reads them x3

  • Her poetry is amazing; and I adore her voice. It's creepy but elegant.

  • @Snowpaw16 While that is a laudible thing to say, I do not think that is her intended meaning. I tend to agree with "dodo4hire" 's take on it myself.

  • Its soo creeapy but soo rad !!

the womans voice is jsut errie to me

  • When I first listened to this a year ago I didn't get it, But in everything that's happened to me I do.

  • I love this! Straight to the point in her oh so subtle way ; )

'i could say yes but you have to ask my army which is not inclined to grant favors just yet' =

    PERFECT! sad but perfect.

  • my first song of EA i heard is Gothic Loleta

  • This was the first piece of her work I'd ever heard, Opheliac being the first song. Still amazing as ever. :D

  • i can totaly relate to every one of her songs and poems

God Help Me meet emilie :)

  • emilie's poetry shows another side of her that i like :)

  • Her voice is so creepily wonderful.

I have trouble understanding this one, but it's still wonderful.

  • i luv it!! thiis one and Ghost r my favourites i get ghost and i get thiis one but the ending is kinda confuzing...

  • I love her voice, and I adore how menacing, yet calm this is... It's beautiful

  • I love Emilie Autumn, she knows what she's talking about, and I know it too.

  • Hm... I could easily imagine this as a scene from American McGee's Alice.

  • @Nikanaiko Her last name is actually Liddel, so that's perfect. Emily Autumn Liddel.

  • The letters should be brighter but it was great!

  • I love her voice, her music, her appearance, her face, her body...

    I just love her!

I went to two of her concerts and I am planning on goiong to her next. I've Already got the ticket and I dont regrett it

  • ITs scary how similiar her writings and some of my own poetry is similiar, i mean theme and EVERYTHING O.o.....i swear i didn't know about this chiky until like 4 days ago-fell in lvoe with her xP- and ive been writing for quite a few years as it is....

  • You must have no life to bash EVERY SINGLE Emilie Autumn video on youtube. I envy your amount of free time.

  • yes this does sound like a movie line!! u really do have to love emilie she is amazing her poems and her songs

  • It sounds like a line from a movie, I love it.

Her poems are so lyrical and they flow nicely.

You have to love Emilie. :]

  • I love her voice

  • I think that she doesn't necessarily mean a REAL handgun. I mean, it's poetry. Who says it has to have a clear meaning?

  • Why are you all judging the comments as poor, some people don't understand it. Same with me I am not really understanding the end and I've thought about it over and over.

In fact I still am XD

Her poems and lyrics can be difficult sometimes but she is by far my favorite.

  • well judging from what she says I would say that it doesn't imply strictly killing but being able to rule and not being only prey of a man's major strength.

But if it was the case it wouldn't be break an heart, but defending herself o.O . Well,I hope there is somewhere an interview or something like that in which she explains its real meaning =].

  • yea i dont get it?

  • I'll be dead honest with you, neither do I. But I'm sure if I looked more into it, it'd make more sense. I was addicted to it at one point though. Her voice, in my opinion, is all that matters. *Is a creepy stalker fan.*

  • @AvannTethialla I Know What It Means :)

  • @AvannTethialla switch of a light is just the person who is opheliac for you their faith and love, just deny them.

the handgun part and army thing is just that you should not love because any1 can switch off that light in you, anytime, anyplace.

at least this is my interpetation after 1 time listening to it.

  • @AvannTethialla Being the master of lyrics (and with the acceptional power of Google >w>;;;) I have found out this song is about Suicide.. or atleast that's what my teacher told me when she said i couldnt read it to the class just for that fact ; w ;

  • @xxplasticbarbiexx I'm not entirely sure the writer herself understands it. Perhaps none of us are meant to, it was just a poem written to sound creepy.

  • @xxplasticbarbiexx It basically meens that breaking a heart is simplistic, simply find a light (One who loves you) and switch it off (break the heart) i was told to do this when i was young, by ladies in white nightgowns (prostitues and/or brides) a ladies best friend is a small handgun (suicide or to protect the raging lover)

the question is useless (No point in bothering to ask me anything) for i could say "Yes" ( I could ignore and say yes.)

  • easy as blinking...

  • I love this poem

  • OHH now I actually understand it.

I've actually listened to just the mp3 for a while and couldn't very well make out some of the words she was saying. ^^"

    Thanks, for posting. ^^

  • i loved tis

  • this is a awsome poem by emilie.... <3
