I really really really love Final Fantasy 7, but Grandia is by far the best RPG I played in my life. I'm still so happy that I bought it and that it still works !! God, I have to play it again !!
I've played games for 11 years but Grandia has the biggest heart, enthusiasm, memorable soundtrack, amazing sprites, a few scenes that made me empathize and cry tears of joy and sorrow. The single gripe I have with the game is how extremely easy it is, however the combat system is unique and damn near perfect!
I've never been more emotionally attached to a cast of characters (Justin, Sue, Gadwin, Leen and especially Feena <3)
Greatest RPG I've played in my life and I've played most of them...
I'm on my 30s now, i still remember playing this game like 11 years ago. This song has been stuck in my head since wednsday, i have no idea why. I didn't first remember what game that song was from, or was it from a game at all. Today i saw Grandia 1 on my shelf and was like FUCK YES! Came to listen to this song right away, and i must admit, i'm nearly crying here. So much memories from this game. I still remember how i was stuck in the town because i didn't know where he had hidden his stuff :P
@slitheryjuggler94 Grandia theme song and FFVII prelude are the best game soundtracks EVER made. You won't see soundtracks like these in modern games. You play these awesome old games when you are young, remember the theme soundtracks, and 10 years later those same soundtracks will nearly make you cry because you remember all the great times you had when you were younger. It's never going to happen with modern games. I doubt i come to listen FF13 main theme after 10 years. It wasnt that good.
@kinkkku i agree FF13 soundtrack was terrible not even close to being as good as 7. i first played 7 when i was 3 years old and still play it to this day, and now im 17. its that good lol and i'll never forget the awesome music of that game and grandia. :)
@slitheryjuggler94 Yeah. I started to play Grandia few weeks ago and finished it last week. I think im going to play Final Fantasy VII Soon. :) I'm glad i still have original copies of these games on my shelf, never going to sell them. Too hard to get these games anywhere nowadays and i hate ROM's :(
I'm 32 years old, I've played all Final Fantasy games from 6 to 13. I just got Grandia through PSN and finished it on my PSP a few days ago. Now I can definitely say that graphics means nothing. This game despite being around 15 years old, almost moved me to tears and entertained me in a way that no RPG has done since FF8. Incredible. It was so good that I even made some music for the game afterwards.
Grandia is the game that gave me a new kind of game play for the first time, it was the very first RPQ i ever played and finished and i still love this game even to this day. It will always have a place in my heart.
I sorta gave this game away some time ago... I regret it a bit, but there were some circumstances. It is among the games I am keeping an eye out to hopefully see again, though by this time, I would likely have to overpay for it on EBay or something.
I just finished the game last night. Man, what a ride. Grandia is the game that most represents why I love video games and fantasy in general as a story telling medium: the adventure! This game captures and perpetuates it so well! It's gives off quite the rush at some of the better parts :)
Honestly, this game is my Chrono Trigger of the 32 bit era. And even though he may not seem the most interesting, realistic main character at first, the Hero grew to be one of my favorites ^^
While the games are good in some aspects, today's game developers tend to dumb down the game to fun yet not so good on the storyline. That's why today's gamers are more interested in simple FPS
Take CoD 4-7 for example. It has a fun storyline, but takes less than 12 hours of consecutive gameplay from start to end. Grandia, however, took me around 24 or more hours of consecutive gameplay just on the first disc, and that is played without grinding, by the way
@TerrorWatcher Yeah - I'm guessing the game developers go with "the flow" or maybe the other way around. But generally games today - especially focusing on the FPS genre - do not have that great of a storyline, I agree.
Blood tests aren't necessary anymore. Recent studies shows that the infected shows signs of uncontrollable swearing, extreme ignorance, and xenophobia in terms of other games of better quality.
The best and most important part of this game was the feeling of adventure this game gave. It never gets old.
Grandia II felt like an anime. I loved it, but not as much of an adventure as the first. Grandia III was more of an adventure than II, but nothing compared to the first. I never played Extreme, but nothing is ever as good as the first.
Maybe its me, but Feena reminds me of Kid from Chrono Cross but way of appearences. Haha!
Man, I got Grandia yesterday from PSN. I wanted that game BAD as a kid, and I was angry when Sue said " that's it! coming out for Oct.99!" on that blasted demo all those years back... where are now to stop me, little girl!!
@sheepdog0111 Try ReDux! It's a big project which overhawls Grandia's Gameplay and difficulty (and in the future; a re-translation of the dialogue). Disc 1 is completed so I suggest you try it.
Sweet Jesus, this game is so much of win. Everything is perfect: Music, charakters, the story, the battle and gameplay system, simply everything. It really does fell like a adventure, this game is never boring. Grandia>Final Fantasy 7
This really takes me back. I remember playing this for hours as a kid(alone, but it was still awesome). The plot was all the way just epic and it had some neat twists like when you go over the edge of the world etc. What's strange about this game is that I never knew anything about it before playing it, I just saw the cover in the store and had some kind of instant association with Secret of Mana, another of my childhood classics. Finally at the age of 12 or so I got this for my bday.
@iPiano I was blown away by the awesomeness. Although I was a complete geek spending most of my time in my room with my PSX I cant say it was all bad and games like Grandia truly represent the upsides of my solitary childhood. This game gave me some good vibrations back then and I just got some more listening to this track. This is just so great.
I freaking love this game and usually replay it every few years. Justin was such a great protagonist: always upbeat, plucky, and dynamic. I love the battle system, the characters, the plot, really, I love everything about this game. I wish more games came out today with the charm that Grandia offers.
Outstanding. I have an original copy of this masterpiece sitting right across from me! ^_^ This game was what it was all about- ADVENTURE. Growing up, leaving home behind and seeing the world beyond, making friends, falling in love..... no RPG has ever accomplished this like the original Grandia.
Legendary RPG's like this just don't happen these days. :(
@haolihfaioefh True...but well, we still have Grandia, the old glory FF's, Wild Arms I to III, Lufia 1 & 2......for me they all stand strong at the same level :)
I remember I got this as a kid for a birthday gift when I made the mistake of ordering this instead of Gauntlet! Best mistake I ever made. One of the best games I've ever played, hands down.
Man, I love this game. I imagine this will make me quite unpopular here, but this theme song reminds me of Laverne and Shirley. One of the themes that plays after a victory in battle reminds me of Three's Company. Even back when this game first came out, I remember thinking, am I playing some kind of interactive late 70s sitcom? Solely based on the music.
Does anyone know where i can download the game so i can play it on my pc, its just i dont have a ps1 anymore, and i looked on eBay to see how much the game costs, and well its quite expensive now, because its soooo rare!! :( If anyone can give mee any advice please tell meee, im a big fan of this game and i have been since i was 6 :(!!
this is a torrent file so you definitely need a download accelerator such as utorrent....
when your done downloading just extract the espxe file and follow instructions, then extract the game file and load it in the espxe emulator, just read a few info on google so you can properly configure the emulator. ;) ihope this works ;)
My fave game of all time. I still remember the first mission and the funny scenes after 10 years. Go Justin, Sue, and Feena! See? I still remember them <3
This will always be one of my most favourite main themes. This together with Brave Fencer Musashi. I adore this game and look forward for the fourth installment in the series (and, yes, I don't count with Grandia Xtreme).
One of the best RPG's ever. Omg I even remember how I got the game. One of my friends from years ago, about 4-5 years ago, let me borrow it because he said he was stuck somewhere so I offered to play it and find out what to do. Turns out to be an awesome game and I asked if I could have it. So he let me have it for free. (He's black and was into sports/FPS games)
To be honest myself I dont why I asked that in such a negative way, I actually laughed a little. I hadnt known there was a stereotypical black gamer. Then again I dont know many black people.
I said this a year ago and today I'm realizing the "He's black" part wasn't necessary. I guess I said it because it was weird to see someone black playing RPG games. It's not racist, because it's true.
what this game does is it develops a person's character as a child, gives them a sense of right and wrong and how to treat others and to be courageous and adventurous in life, to leave no stone unturned and make many friends along the way. It certainly does the opposite of what people say video games do to young minds and creates a much profound and greater understanding of morals and life than that of other kids who haven't played this game. It develops your own personality when growing up.
@SkepticalMuffin man i wish i finished this game, i got it at the perfect age, i think i was 5-7 years old and i didnt finish it =/ perhaps if i did, i could have had a different personality, or atleast better morales, i love this game, they make me feel good, so much work done to create something beautiful. and the music, just blows you away, maybe even shedding a tear or two. i loved this piece of art, and no piece of art has ever made me feel so many different emotions, but this game, has.
I suggest everyone who likes Grandia to see the animated movie Laputa: The Castle in the Sky. It's often compared to Grandia and they do have a very similar plot and overall feel and look. It was really interesting to see, being the big fan of Grandia that I am.
I hadn't heard of these two having anything the same, I just blindly saw the movie, because the director is one of my favorites and couldn't help at noticing the resemblance.
Im a Miyazaki and Grandia fan, but Im not sure what you mean? They arent really flying all that much in Grandia are they? Or do you mean Justin and Feena adventuring being similiar to Pazu and Sheeta? (sorry, I havent played this game in 9 years, I forgot why they even left their town to go to Elencia)
The most similar thing is the pendant in Laputa that is pretty much the same thing as the spirit stone in Grandia. Also the drawing and the landscape and objects of Laputa just very much resemble Grandia. The plot with the military and all also feel similar to each other. And you gotta admit when Pazu has his flying glasses or whatever they are on he looks like Justin. Atleast for me when I saw Laputa for the first time I immidiately from the beginning felt that I was watching a Grandia movie.
Still my favorite Video Game tune of all time.

I remember I got this as a kid for a birthday gift when I made the mistake of ordering this instead of Gauntlet! Best mistake I ever made. One of the best games I've ever played, hands down.

A Masterpiece! Because Grandia manages it to handle authentic Topics which
REALLY move mankind, such as Trust, Love, Courage, Friendship, Treason,
Mistrust, Racism, Ambush and so on. And they handle it MASTERLY so that
it moves you emotionally. They DON'T have to make up pseudocool Problems
like "The L'Cie will Curse us all" which just are unathentic and so don't
touch you even the slightest.
AND in Addition: This Game has a PERFECT Gameplay! So WHAT are you waiting for? :>

Oh God. This music just brought my early teenage years of playing this game crashing back, and it almost moved me to tears.
Ensiferum01 1 year ago 9
Man, I love this game. I imagine this will make me quite unpopular here, but this theme song reminds me of Laverne and Shirley. One of the themes that plays after a victory in battle reminds me of Three's Company. Even back when this game first came out, I remember thinking, am I playing some kind of interactive late 70s sitcom? Solely based on the music.

pahndora80 1 year ago
@pahndora80 Google is your friend. Search for "Grandia PSX ISO" and then "ePSXe" and see what you find. ;)
kul65 1 year ago
@kul65 Thanks alot dude :D Just one question, whats the diff between the PSX ISO and the ePSXe?
pahndora80 1 year ago
@pahndora80 ePSXe is the "console" and the ISO is the game.
kul65 1 year ago
this is a torrent file so you definitely need a download accelerator such as utorrent....
when your done downloading just extract the espxe file and follow instructions, then extract the game file and load it in the espxe emulator, just read a few info on google so you can properly configure the emulator. ;) ihope this works ;)

You can buy the game through the PSN for your PS3 and PSP. This, of course, requires that you have either one of those consoles.

(He's black and was into sports/FPS games)
wildmang03 2 years ago 15
Hes black? So what?
QwoPhasaArius 2 years ago
@QwoPhasaArius
Yeah, I don't know why I mentioned that. Makes me sound racist.
Maybe what I meant was you don't see many black people into RPG games, but sports and sport games.
wildmang03 2 years ago
To be honest myself I dont why I asked that in such a negative way, I actually laughed a little. I hadnt known there was a stereotypical black gamer. Then again I dont know many black people.
Because I killed them all.
QwoPhasaArius 2 years ago
I said this a year ago and today I'm realizing the "He's black" part wasn't necessary. I guess I said it because it was weird to see someone black playing RPG games. It's not racist, because it's true.
JingTheKingOfBandits 1 year ago
@wildmang03 lol hes black and was into sports/fps games...oh yeah black guys love sports games
benberrysmith 10 months ago
I'm not trying to be racist, its just the truth. I've never walked into a black guys house with rpg games. I only see sports and wrestling games.
wildmang03 4 months ago
@wildmang03 black guys playin rpg's err'day...your argument is invalid

what this game does is it develops a person's character as a child, gives them a sense of right and wrong and how to treat others and to be courageous and adventurous in life, to leave no stone unturned and make many friends along the way. It certainly does the opposite of what people say video games do to young minds and creates a much profound and greater understanding of morals and life than that of other kids who haven't played this game. It develops your own personality when growing up.
SkepticalMuffin 2 years ago 42
@SkepticalMuffin
I definitely believe that! im 24 years old now and i have my wife and kids, and still i felt it that way,,,, AN ADVENTURER NEVER GIVE UP!!
thats what i always say when problems took over. i just want to share;)
i promise, one day ill make sure that my kids will play this game. FOR THEIR OWN GOOD :)

@SkepticalMuffin man i wish i finished this game, i got it at the perfect age, i think i was 5-7 years old and i didnt finish it =/ perhaps if i did, i could have had a different personality, or atleast better morales, i love this game, they make me feel good, so much work done to create something beautiful. and the music, just blows you away, maybe even shedding a tear or two. i loved this piece of art, and no piece of art has ever made me feel so many different emotions, but this game, has.
ryankhan11 1 year ago
@ryankhan11 5-7 is too young! 8-14 is a better age. heck you can even play it when you're older than that i suppose

Bonefoot 2 years ago
They really are quite alike. I just wish there was a Leen style sacrifize in it. :P
kul65 2 years ago
Yeah that would seal the deal, good movie tho.
Bonefoot 2 years ago
Im a Miyazaki and Grandia fan, but Im not sure what you mean? They arent really flying all that much in Grandia are they? Or do you mean Justin and Feena adventuring being similiar to Pazu and Sheeta? (sorry, I havent played this game in 9 years, I forgot why they even left their town to go to Elencia)
Kankannan 2 years ago
The most similar thing is the pendant in Laputa that is pretty much the same thing as the spirit stone in Grandia. Also the drawing and the landscape and objects of Laputa just very much resemble Grandia. The plot with the military and all also feel similar to each other. And you gotta admit when Pazu has his flying glasses or whatever they are on he looks like Justin. Atleast for me when I saw Laputa for the first time I immidiately from the beginning felt that I was watching a Grandia movie.
