I am Scottish. I am only 16 years old and I live in the city and I can tell you this song is not "infamous".
Just because most Americans haven't heard it doesn't mean it's infamous. I mean half of Americans nowadays probably couldn't tell you where Scotland is.
@FailureJagex 1st-please refrain from using foul lang or comments will be deleted. 2nd-The "infamous" comment references the bawdy innuendos which, made the song well-known for my fans. More importantly the comment was directed to the "scotsman" you see in the film who unwittingly re-enacted the plot of the song one drunken night. If you see the song as a bad stereotype, this is true, but certainly no worse than the broad generalization you draw about American intelligence in your comment.
Frankly, while the individual that this sont is directed to is.... questionable... she sang it wonderfully. This was fun to watch. Though despite being a questionable idividual that it was directed to, he is still my friend and I will never deny it.
@MrGorebhoy "Who are you to judge the life I live? I know I'm not perfect -and I don't live to be- but before you start pointing fingers... make sure you hands are clean!" — Bob Marley You are entitled to your opnion of my music, but your need to insult an entire group of people is immature, inappropriate, and rude. Your comment has been deleted for this reason. further insults will result in you being blocked.
this was actually the best that i have found.....just for the fact that she actually sang the entire song....most people dont have the part in the later verse where they say its gruesome more.....Kudos ma'am....Kudos....i will subscribe just for that fact!
"Blessed is the man who, having nothing to stay, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact."
Dislike the song, Fine. Dislike my singing. Fine. However, when YOU make ignorant claims about a person you know nothing about, or for that matter an entire group, only your own lack of tolerance and empathy are revealed.
Your comment will be removed for it's foul language. Further potty mouth issues result in being blocked.
...so my comments will look well out of place on here and ive already got enough people who actually truly are negative to respond to at the moment so last thing I need is an arguement with someone who is obviously more intelligent & not really that ignorant at all compaired with the majority of people who cause arguements on youtube,
so I hope you didn't take it to personally really,
aw...wish I had responded sooner! No hard feelings at all...and no need to remove your previous comment. As I said, I'm game for intelligent conversation, and you have that skill I now see. ^_^
Honestly, your comments got me to thinking about this song differently and the fact that it does have a sterotype in it...I always sang it because of it's play on words and I have kilt-wearin friends who find it hilarious, but now... ?? So thank you for makin me think! ^_^
Have always loved this song....you are singing it a bit too fast. Or maybe the guitar is too loud...as you have already stated. You could do better at it...i'm sure.
I use three chords: E, A, and D. If you you have a good ear, you can figure out when and where to change between the chords, otherwise, drop me a mail, and I can work on sending you a file with placement of the chord changes...
lol...yeah it is a glaring anachronism. I should learn to play the song on Mandolin or bouzouki just for events..somehow I don't think dulcimer or harp would quite convey the baudiness of the song though. ^_^
I got this version from the Malarky brothers off of their album, "whiskey on a Sunday", though they sing it acapella, so I had to figure out how I wanted to play it on the guitar...and I've found that my melody/lyrics has slight differences now as a result...
thanks for the feedback...I think in this I was using a pick and I shouldn't have since that made the guitar louder than voice. Didn't have a mic onsite--hadn't planned on recording a video at this particular event...but can plan for better vocal sound in future. Many thanks for the thoughtful feedback!
I have always loved this song! A gal I work with is involved with the SCA. She has the coolest costumes and lots of stories from the events she attends. BTW I love your comment about kindness..it really puts things in perspective. :)
That girl is fantastic. Brilliant on guitar and personality to pull it off. Very very good. If you dont earn a living from this kind of thing I think you should consider it!
This song made me laugh so frickin hard. I have listened to some of you other songs, you have a gift, thank you for sharing it. Also have you cut a CD yet I would love to buy one!!!
"Kindness trumps greed: it asks for sharing. Kindness trumps fear: it calls forth gratefulness and love. Kindness trumps even stupidity, for with sharing and love, one learns."
Lesson 1: This isn't D&D. It's a international historical reinactment group called the SCA. Google it.
Lesson 2: I am equal to all things. Neither you nor your insults have the power to make me feel inferior. You will experience greater satisfaction & peace by seeking out the positive in yourself & others
How dare you, you impudent pup. this fine lady is doing us all a great honor sharing her talent. you may think you're being funny but you just have told us all how much of a ignorent fool you are. You have no honor and No chivalry, I slap you you from afar you pig faced bafoon.
hmm i didnt know theres another verse after "lad i dont know where youve been..:" good playing. i somehow was amazed to see this song working with a major (i play it with g xD)
sorry about that...sometimes the live recordings are'nt the best from my wee little digital camera. If you google "the scotsman song" you should find many sites with lyrics. :)
::Chuckle:: Aye, I be that reason. If you've met me, m'Name, at WW, is Brighid Chaomhanach. Oddly enough, I'd stopped bringing them because I'd been told - not saying by who - people said they only ate them to be nice but didn't really like them. Yet when I stopped bringing them, people complained, go figure? Apparently chocolate mixed with alcohol still has fans.
He he, Yes, more than his mind can end up 3 sheets to the wind. Esp. after he's had one too many rum-soaked "boomering bars". Heh, chocolate bars that have a really nice kick to 'em. One of my specialties.
*hehheh* you be the reason he be the way he be, eh? ;) Actually I think I may have had the pleasure of sampling a tidbit of your chocolate bars once a long time ago at a WW event. ^_^ they are evilly delicious.
Hehe, I've been in the Household of Mystic Dragon as their Vinter and Cook for a little over a year now and this song STILL makes me giggle my little head off. And Angus, heh, lad, watch the wind next time ya fall asleep outside? Might be more than jest the tarps flyin' over yer head again. ::wink::
*hee* Yeah...isn't everyone? Been "living the dream" for about 10 years now, though I am not overly active in my local shire. I attend about two events a year and help run a household with my friend called the "Inn of the Cup & Cauldron"
Thought you'd get a kick out of this one. ;) We joked a lot about the campfire smoke that is behind me in the neighbor's camp--it looks like I've literally got smoke coming out of my ears/head while performing. Talk about "fire in the head", eh?
Thank you Ailinn for this new video! I was wondering if you will continue with making videos or not :) great to see a new piece..I love the melody of this song!
Yeah...sorry about the long wait. I've been inordinately distracted this summer with just about everything in my life that doesn't deal with my music.
