  • Can anyone tell me where to find the whole song not just the intro

  • mate, my hand is a wanker, just wont cooperate... good lesson though.

  • which effects did you use?

  • endure the pain to get the game,,,,,,,,,,,sweet phrase

  • you play too fast but your good :)

  • Great Video to epic song. decided i should finally learn this today as i love this song and the Killers . Easier than i expected. :D

  • I had to put tape over the ends of my fingers to stop them from hurting. Great vid!

  • was it just me, or were other people waiting for the singing to come in once he started playing that? :P great lesson :D

  • @mrarugaman Thanks for the compliment, just be grateful that I didn't start the singing though. :-)

  • I HAVE YOUR GUITAR <3

  • MY pinky finger just turns in really badly when i do the first 3 fingers. hmm not sure if i'll ever play this.

  • the hardest is not to mute the flat e with your palm....

  • its the red dwarf computer !

  • Your tone and technique sound nearly identical to the recording - amazing! Who knew such a simple-sounding riff is so damned complicated to execute? How would their guitarist have even thought to do this? Thanks for the help.

  • My fingers! They are dieing!

  • thanks mate that's the best version i've seen easily

  • tanx a lot 4 that

just wondering why hitting the strings upwards or downward makes a difference.

does it effect the sound or is it for speed?

  • @kealanheg It's usually for speed and for ease of playing the riff although it can affect the sound for chords. For speed, it is faster to "alternate" pick (i.e. up and down) than pick in one direction only. For a complex riff, like this, the picking can be crucial.

  • @andybltt

    ah yes that makes sense.

Tanx a lot for the clarification and the lesson

    .

  • Big hands FTW!

  • arrrghh! gutted, i sort of worked it out like this and thought maybe there is another way of fingering this out! and you confirmed just what i hoped it wasnt,.

    good video fella, im gutted!

  • my hand hurts i love it but cant get the hand to stretch

  • u help me so much!!

  • yeah seriously consider making a lesson of the whole song. i tried looking at tabs from every site imaginable, but its ridiculous having to try to figure every other aspect out.

  • Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much, god that helped me so much.

  • you must be awesome.... like the killers

  • @PaintedLadder Anybody who likes The Killers is awesome. I personally love them.

  • Yeah!! thank u !

  • Thanks man i realy enjoy your lessons!!!

  • Firstly great video, was a great help thanks :), but could you do a video showing the rest of the song?

  • @youngy0100 hell yeah i'll second that!

  • im sorry, your long blonde locks are distracting me

  • Nice video. So many videos have it too unclear or even wrong. Thxs

  • Thanks man! You helped me so much!

  • You helped me a lot, cheers!

  • how come you dont have tabs for this song as you know which chords you're playing?

  • damn it's hard to put my fingers on that way...my left hand hurts :S

  • i love your hair, great lesson!!!

  • lmao wish i had hair like that

  • what is the tuning to this? is there any special like effect tuning things to it im supposeed to do? like idk

  • i heard it was Eb

  • @BigBadBandits

tuning is: all strings one-half semitone down

Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb

  • Really great. A lot clearer and more accurate sounding than the rest of the videos on here. The rest of the song would be great!

  • fantastic tutorial! you realy took your time to tell us the finger positioning. Thank very much!

  • please upload a tutorial for "one - u2"

  • Thanks for this video lesson. It really helped me. :D

  • jajaja...... look at his face on 3:29

  • you guys should dress up like a complete nerd then roc k out on your guitar playing ode to joy it is so funny......dont worry its a beginners song to

  • tks a million :D

  • taviango is correct it is played in e flat not just the top e flattened

  • sam mark harrison nails it in his tutorial if you need a good peer to copy

  • paiiiiiin! =[.. Good guide

  • thats a big head you have there, sir

  • hahah, brilliant

  • upload a video of you playing the intro :D

  • with wat cam?:D

  • you don't have any friend with a cam ?

  • nope

  • that's Saaad we will never be able to see your great skills

  • instead of just the high e being de-tuned the rest of the guitar needs to go half a step down because during the pre chorus the killers guitarist plays more open strings, (instead of chords) and at the end he plays chords with open strings. so really to play it fully and correctly you might need to tune down half a step. :)

  • great lesson. Im a fingerstlye guitar player so im not using a pick and im playing on an acoustic. Its probably easier with ur fingers lol

  • omg 8 vids and ur the only one that helped u rock man

  • thank you so much

  • wow .. ur amazing!! thanks :)

  • thank youu! it wasn't confusing at all it was so helpful but woow i have tiny hand and i think i just got tendonitus haha

  • Sweeet I got it! Thanks man. Last night i tried it and my fingers felt like they were about to break and this morning I tried and its alot easier.

  • do we only need to tune the top e down? Everywhere else i've looked it said to tune each string down half a step.

  • I only detune the top E so that when I play it live with my band I don't have to retune the whole guitar. The only open string played in the song is the E string (Eb note) so the rest can be played without a full retune just by moving your hand down a fret. You can retune the whole guitar if you prefer as I'm sure that the Killers do to make the song easier to sing for their singer (same as GnR and a lot of other rock bands).

  • Andy.. i have just a marshall 40 amp with clean ,overdrive and tone .like i say im still learning.. Sad as it seams i will go out and buy a amp just to get this sound.Tell me what i should buy..Mate your a legend .Gmaca

  • You should be almost there without needing a new amp. The sound is basically a little overdrive, some reverb and a bit of compression (to helps the notes ring at an even level). Most good multifx units have a compressor or you can buy them as a single pedal (e.g. Boss CS1) . They are really good effects to have as a basic building block in any pedal board.

  • Sorry, I meant Boss CS3 pedal. About £60 on E-bay.

  • @andybltt would you suggest the same thing for a Squier Strat with a Squier SP-10 amp? the only effect I have is overdrive/clean built in

  • Can do it.. Fingers killin me .. But .. Carnt get the sound rite.. What's the amp settings please? I'm still learning . This song is the best EVA wanna get it rite

  • if you've got a Vox amp, then you google VOX Tone Room and then search for the Mr. Brightside one. if you have a different amp, then just try to make it as similar as possible.

  • How much $ did that Gibson cost? I know its different from the UK than US

  • well now my hand's like dead, but never mind ill survive. thanks!!

  • What effect are you using, or what settings do you have your amp on?

  • 2nd comment... thank you so much i can play this almost perfect now...5 stars next is metellica's ONE

  • Omg thank you so much i now understand and can play this song, thank you very much :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

  • yep i will endure the pain until i get it...thanks ur making this picking pattern alot easyer

  • thanks!

    helped me a lot

  • @Galera88 ikr?

  • thats great m8 gona use dis for my next song lol

  • This was awesome! My amp makes an allmoust identical sound and it wasn't that hard. 5 stars!

  • ah my stupid little finger keeps falling over but excellent lesson :D

  • Nice one, have been meaning to learn this for ages. Impressed with the teacher!!!

  • you're a really good teacher! Thanks it was helpfull

  • do u think having large hands makes the fingereing harder? really hard for me.

  • smalls not workin for me

  • okay that sounded very wrong. tee hee

  • i wonder if it would be any easier with finger picking. ouch.

  • oh my god I can't tell you how helpful this was!

  • cramp, CRAMP!

  • HAHAH I KNOW RIGHT!

  • can someone please help, on the 3rd part of the riff, the A sting is left open is it played or missed out in the stroke pattern?

  • You skip the a string on the 3rd part and go low E, to the D string from what I gathered.

  • awesome video thanks, i followed it easy

  • thanks.........in wasn t confusing at all....really.....but i casn make it sound right....and i have the same problem with snow hey oh....can you give me a tip about how can i pick the strings faster

  • Shit, My hand is weird i cant have fingers in the right position for those chords...

  • very usefull with the tuning

  • cheers mate .

  • Mate cheers thats was well useful and clear. nice job

  • you rock!

  • what are the amp settings for this?

  • damn its the last part of the riff is whats hard for me. great tutorial btw

  • so helpful fella, seriously, many thanks

  • thanks your awesome

  • Can you put the prechorus up too :) you are seriously awesome

  • this was a really really good tutorial, im not too good at picking but the way the explained it and how you did it slowly helped me out alot, im going to practice alot!

  • did you do this by ear??

  • yowzer, my fingers fucking hurt! bring on the caps!

  • dude you did a good job on this song

  • just move all your fingers up one fret and theres no need do down tune the top e string, sounds perfect :)

  • You're not wrong if you're tuned to Eb but if you're in standad tuning and want to play in the same key as the Killers, detuning the top E is the easiest way to do it without retuning the whole guitar.

  • 6:27 Lmaoo!

  • Some of you guitarists are so fucking stupid. he dosent have the tabs so just go one google and type in Mr Brightside tabs. i recommend getting PowerTab and GuitarPro because it plays the tabs back to you!

  • Quit whining about the intro's. A true muscian would be interested in facts about music.

    Top job on the tutorials.

  • putain mon pote joue un peu et arrête de parler!!!

  • my hand is to weak and tiny lol

  • that's what she said

  • Where? i dont see it!

  • tanks i can play the intro now but do you no where i could find out how to play the full song

  • listen and learn yourself, u'll become a better guitarist

  • I thought it was a bit easier if you tune the b string down 1/2 step as well... what do you think?

  • Man this guy is AwEsOmE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol - 1:37 please look its funny as

  • thanks!!!!

  • 00:54 holy crap man you're fast

  • That's what she said! xD

  • Yet another good use of this slightly obnoxious joke...

  • LOL xD

  • this is by far the best way to do this

thank u soo much u rock man!!!

  • did he just say monkey seemon fans

  • LOL i thought he did

  • dude ure absolutely great but you need to tell us which string is which.......................we dont understand when u say e and a and g???????????/

  • Most beginners will know the basic string names but, from top to bottom (thickest to thinnest) they are E,A,D,G,B,E in standard tuning. Hope this helps?

  • uncle andy!!

can i borrow one of ur electric guitars cos im finding it really hard to play on acoustic ..emma

  • Hi Em,

It's tough to play this on acoustic all right. Maybe start off with something easier like my Snow Patrol lesson? That's a lot more manageable. :-)

  • ok..thankyou :) i shall keep practicing...

also, Katy wanted me to tell you that she is going to your first gig in June with her new boyfriend. thanks again :)

  • oh my goodness! thats impossible

  • it's rly hard yeah :/

  • Guess what... Thats what she said xP

  • you talk too much

  • If you find it hard to put your ring finger and then your pinky, put your pinky on first.

I just found that out and thought it might help.

Great lesson, saved me hours staring at tabs

  • *ring finger,then your pinky

  • Ah bollocks. Killed my hand on the positioning, but that was a great tutorial :D

  • thanks, great, saves me having to work it out. cheers

  • incredible thanks a lot buddy!!

  • what effects do use for this song?

  • Crunchy distortion and a touch of reverb

  • Great explanation. Your video made learning this song at least 3x easier.

  • great tutorial but do u kno the rest of the song???

  • nice tutorial...

i have a tutorial on this song, but i play an alternative more easier way. check it out, its more so for beginners. thanks!!!!

  • wa effects/ settings r used on ure amp/ guitar??

  • isnt the tuning a half step down for all the strings?

  • just the high e string

    the rest are regular

  • but if ya wanna play the rest of the tune im pretty sure ya gotta down tune the whole thing half a step. pretty sure. thats how i play it

  • well after i watched this, i learned he plays it differently than i used to (i play this way know cause its way better)

and i guess ive been playing it wrong cause ive never struk the open e, so i never tuned it down

    shit lol

  • Very nice video, wasn't too complex if you know what you're doing. haven't mastered it yet but with practice comes perfect and girls falling at your feet!

  • how dose that have enything to do with snow

  • You have to keep the hand position the same but change the bass note

  • sweet video! you know the rest of the song?

  • Excellent video!

  • ugh. since my little finger is crooked its impossible for me to play this.

  • im with u buddy, i have to use the side of my little finger

  • me too :)

  • What effects, guitar/amp settings are they using for this part to give it that crystal sound?

  • mint vid

  • you can play it much more easy ont 12th fret , 1 octafe lower ...

  • what's your age?

  • damn good lesson.

  • rokatoowee The les paul is a great guitar. The Epiphone is good knock off the big difference between the 2 of them is the pick ups. The epiphone uses a lower quality humbucker then the Gibson. It is a way cheaper option to go with the Epiphone and you could always upgrade the pickups later on if you wanted. That being said the Gibson is basically a little better in every way. But beggers can't be choosers. I hope this helps.! Cheers. PS good lesson

  • Thanks for your comment Rob. Couldn't have put it better myself. :-)

  • I can play a song from my favorite band now!:]

    Thanks!

  • i have always wanted a gibson les paul but i dont have the money... are the epiphone les pauls just as good? and do the two actually sound good or are they both not very good guitars

    feedback would be greatly apreciated

and thank you so much for the lesson i learned it just thanx to you all the other lessons are rubbish

  • Hi Rokatoowee, I'll echo Rob's comments above - Gibsons and Epiphones are both good guitars, but you do get what you pay for. My singer has an Epiphone LP but wants to upgrade to a Gibson. I am lucky enough to have 3 Gibson LPs and they all sound different. I'd recommend that whatever guitar you get, try it in a shop first and make sure you like how it sounds and feels when you play it. LPs are quite heavy guitars and not for everyone, but they do sound amazing thru a Marshall. :-)

  • nice lesson thanks alot, btw u say erm alot lol

  • no spik inglish xD

  • then learn how to speak english :P
