there's no point in shaving along the grain, it's useless because almost no hair is removed and your face looks exactly as it looked before shaving. Against the grain is perfectly tolerated by the skin and not painful with the proper preparation and cutting angle.

Shaving doesn't have to be like that. It's sad a bloke your age has never learned how to do it properly. For a start you're shaving against the growth to begin with. No wonder it's a pain. Decent tools and lather (no canned crap) and prepare the face. It takes a whole 5 minutes more to do it right, and comfortably.

His face looked dry as a bone, the cream was from a can and the Razor was a cheap disposable affair.

Then just to top it off he rubs his face vigorously with a towel! It hurt just watching this.

A decent razor and lather built from a quality cream and applied using a brush will turn this 'daily agony' into a daily pleasure.

Turn the water off when you aren't using it.

Shave WITH the grain.

Shave more slowly.

Shave only where there is lather. If you need to go over a spot again, put more lather on.

Across the grain - for many people that's East-West or vice versa. Has all the benefits of ATG without the risks that some have. I rarely bother with an ATG pass now, which I used to all the time with carts.

I have hair that grow in all direction, like in the same zone (the cheek or above the lips) and in the same spot it's like 2 hair grow in one direction, another 2 hair in another direction and 2 other hair in another direction again.
