  • MINDBLOWING!

  • I think the reason so many people are in love with this is because it has a different meaning every time I watch it. First time, ascension to heaven. Second time, defying your limits. Third time, home.

  • So long, and thanks for all the fish.

  • If I could rename this song, I would name it "The Spirit of Adventure". The beginning of the song really gives me that feeling of the adventure.

  • i saw this a IMAX when it came out. I loved it! =)

  • every time i watch this on dvd at home, i feel so lucky that i saw this in theaters-when disney was creative and amazing

  • So long, again, and thanks for all the fish

  • 7:55 I always remember this scene when I'm on a plane.

  • this is a composition that could rival betoven's 9th

  • So long, and thanks for all the fish (but no thanks for all those harpoons) XD !

  • ...SAVE THE STAR WHALES~!!!

  • The Japanese won't know what him them...

  • How that can be? I mean, Whales & fly?

    Love Fantasy 2000

  • Whales flying through space and nebula clouds? FUCK YEAH!

  • This is my favorite music is Pines of Rome?

This is the flying whales going to the sky and reach the top and follow to the top until a thousands of whales coming out of the sea?

It is a Chicago Symphony Band and Orchestra of Fantasia and the movies?

  • I will only say one thing: Gojira - Flying Whales.

  • Thats it... we are fucked...

  • This part made me really depressed when I was little, I cried so hard! Very emotional music.

  • "The Pines of Rome" or "The most epic flying whales migration ever" ^-^

  • my only wish would be that disney wouldve used all of the song.

  • are music teacher showed us this and i was just mezmorized by the flying wales

  • @1:43 Look ma, no water!

  • And... they're off!

  • I give you... WHALE HEAVEN!!! I love this one

  • What the hell is this..?

  • The music feels so sparkly!

  • I just wish I could see this in a huge theater with a huge, live orchestra. The ending of Pines of Rome is one of the most epic parts of classical music; it fills the hall with so much more sound than you'd expect from a live orchestra.

  • i've heard this piece so many times, and i could have never pictured a story this imaginative that captures the essence of the piece so well.

  • Flying whales. Where is your god now?

  • The trumpet professor at my university is on this recording. He always says that he's not the one that played the wrong note at 9:07! hahaa

  • fantastique !!! :OO

  • This is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

  • I am a special effects kind of guy, loved it

  • I love this, it is very creative...

  • Watch this on shrooms, it will change your life.

  • My band is playing this music :D

  • next minute aladdin and jasmine are flying on carpet going wtf?

  • Willzyx !!!!!

  • This song makes me want to become a director.

  • That is the true power of music. It makes people express their feelings. That's not too common these days......

  • I consider myself to be a very unemotional guy. I didn't cry when my grandmother died, nor when I lost my dog that I had had my entire life. But everything I watch this, tears come flowing down my face. I cannot put into words how beautiful this song is, I can't even begin to describe the way it makes me feel. It's just something you have to experience to understand.

  • It remembers me to "Jupiter" of Holst

  • @Akzyyy That is an amazing piece

  • Would anyone hold it against me if I said that the whales were saying "So long, and thanks for all the fish" ?

  • i love the baby humpback whale...so cute!!!!

  • Reminds me of those 50s Epics with the Chariots and Temples...

  • for some reason, i cried when i saw this part of fantasia in the theater. it was just so beautiful to me.

  • @keacreme so did i

  • This was in our half time show last year and before we went out we would say "FOR THE WHALE!!!"

  • whales and sirius

  • impresionanteeee, fascinanteeeeee, inmejorableeeee

  • Oh dear God. This is the most beautiful piece I have ever seen along with "Firebird." It just breaks up my heart, and makes me cry like a little child.

    Beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • @TamyMiss1 This and the Firebird one are my favorites too

  • SSSPPPPAAAAACCCCEEEEE

  • The ending is my favorite part of this magnificent piece.

  • 19 people are friends with those seagulls

  • I saw the film Fantasia when I was 5 and this is maybe the only memory I have of the film

  • @rodgonbass

same but the film i remembered from it was "Firebird"

been looking for it for 9 years and i found it :D

  • Flying Fantasia of Marvellous Music.

  • I always watch all the Fantasia movies and watch them musically if that makes sense. The mallet parts sound really enthusiastic. The bass clarinet (sounds like there is one) comes in at the mysterious parts, but I can never seem to hear the flute parts sometimes unless they play the melody with the fiddles (violins or whatever you call them). I can only hear the flutes in some harmony parts.

  • Its a bummer they cut the second movement and half of the forth... :/

  • I went to a performance of the Pines of Rome, at the Sheffield City Hall. Not sure of the orchestra but it was conducted by Paul Freeman. It was absolutely fantastic.

  • Dolphins Disney. It should have been dolphins....

  • an army of space whales where is your god now?

  • I do not know well yet, because I like the Respighi pines of Rome, but I guess that one important thing that I like, more each day, is listening to interpretation of Pines of Rome by my son with his trumpet

  • If I was aliens, I'd come to earth in whale-shaped space ships. Everyone in the world would come out to gaze up in awe, then I'd go pewpew LAZERS OUT MY BLOWHOLE!!

  • I never seen it, but that little whale is such a cutie, I wish voices were added and sounds, like with the sea gulls being angry and then the concerned parents, but I love the little baby

  • I love it!!

  • never understood why they used whales as the subject for a film accompanying a song entitled "PINES of rome".

  • My friend is terrified of whales because of seeing this film in IMAX when she was 10. Her mind was just that blown. Still love it. <3

  • one of the lamer pieces in Fantasia 2000. for one thing i don't like the song as much as the others and also, i don't get why the whales are cgi. this is the sequel to one of THEE big disney classics! i think it should have been more classic. same goes for the steadfast tin soldier and bambi 2.

  • excelent <3

  • man, i would pay to watch this in a movie theater

  • incredibly beautiful

  • I am so grateful to Disney for this. I remember watching the original Fantasia when I was a kid, and I really think it made all the difference in my creativity, my musicality, and my overall intelligence. I can't wait until I have children I can share this one with, as well as the original.

  • where is the real animation? this is all computerized crap. come on walt disney! give us your old stuff!

  • @ThePsychoSarah What are you talking about? the animation is wonderful. Just because it's done with more modern, CG animation techniques doesn't make it bad. If you notice, not every thing in this piece is the CG, there are plenty bits of tradition Disney style animation, it's a very good blend of the two.

  • What does this have to do with Italian nationalism?

  • @ortega48 well not the animation :) But the music's background is about italian patriotism/nationalism indeed :) It's from a Rome-trilogy by Respighi, "Fountains of Rome" and "Roman festives" is the other two.

  • 1:30

    Beat that Free Willy XD

  • Well, well. If it isn't Free Willy's cousin, Pay-Per-View!

  • Flying whales? Sounds like an oddly effective weapon.

  • play this song /watch?v=M-W8dJss5fo at the exact same time as this video, muted, and its sooooo magical and different than with the classical music.

  • Inception! A sea within a sea within a sea within a sea...

  • you know, i would have freaked out if i saw a large group of whales flying in the sky like that @@ anyway, disney's creativity and fantasy had always brought to us endless imagination and childhood memories :))

  • it's called Fantasia because it's fantasy and is intended to be fantasy ... if you can let go into it, you'll be like that guy with something stuck in his eye and the most popular comment ;) Don't mind if I do, too;) I'm so in love with this segment and it totally rocked the big screen back in the day.

  • very interesting

  • Love the ending

  • i hate cgi

  • i played thissssss

  • @redstarzable Same here! was not it just thrilling!

  • Man its so hard to show this to kids these days. This comes up and they're like,WTF!Why are the whales flying this is soo stupid! And when I was little I would only stare at the screen watching the whales fly.

  • @FantasyFan20003 yeah all kids wanna watch these days is jersey shore and 16 and pregnant. we should just kill them all.

  • @LightShowerss I completely agree! I watched old movies like this all the time when I was younger. and I'm 14! I don't watch jersy shore or 16 and pregnant..well maybe 16 and pregnant but only because my sisters were watching it. I haven't seen that show in months :P but still I'd rather watch classiz movies like this other than those lame shows -_-

  • I feel sad for all the whales that are being killed these days :( Disgusting, if you ask me.

  • What a creative film & the beautiful composition! Yes I am a grown up, but great creative works always touch the hearts of the people. I saw from animal channel about whale war between international animal protection guards fighting against Japans' illegal whale slanting. Though whales are important sources in the industry, It really breaks my heart.. Is there any way stop brutal slaughtering that is still going on? Where is the conscience?

  • I'd be fucking scared if the sun started flashing and whales started flying.

  • I prefer Tigers

  • Only humback whales can equal the majesty and beauty of Rome in it's prime. :p

  • Mickey is gay

  • perfect ♥

  • soo beautiful.

  • i love this video, but i've never gotten something: why are the whales flying? i know it's disney and everything, but still...?

  • @kaynanmg just go with it.

  • @vanderbiltsax i know! like i said, i love this video!

  • Marching band show music? I think yes.

  • Im in the band at marian catholic and our symphonic band played this. it was amazing

  • The ending was magical...

  • Loved this as a kid, and a good life lesson, never piss off seagulls

  • @WoodenBokken

Kind of difficult to do when the seagull is your state bird. XD

  • @xAnimeNIACZx lyk omg i know, ryt? xD

  • I'm just gonna go ahead and say...

    HELL YEAH SPACE WHAAAAALES

  • 3:45, those are the shards I see in the Matterhorn ride.

  • Ah, so this is how they were supposed to respond to the probe in Star Trek 4

  • Does anybody else notice that we've been watching this since we were little and never knew wether the baby whale was a boy or a girl.I realized that just now.

  • @glitchmastaz10000 let's pretend it's a girl for the sake of doing so XD

  • Baby Whale: ohh looks lik fun (blows) Birds: now you've pissed us off!!

  • PARADOX

  • I predict in 2060 they'll come out with the third fantasia and it will be released on the new system 3B where you can project Touchable 3D Holograms from your brain

  • i brought this film in for my film class to watch and everyone hated it so much saying "someone must have been fucking high to come up with shit like this". i was mad not only because my class has no taste and feel comfortable with watching the crazies like their redneck friends and family, but because they think that you can only be high to be creative. the teacher agreed with the class and we went on to watch dumb and dumber. figures

  • @megumicosmetic HOW CAN THEY HATE THIS AND LIKE SEEING PEOPLE GETTING KILLED OR DOING SOMTHING STUPID!?!?!?! Your class has no soul.:(

  • @megumicosmetic this isnt really the kind of material you should bring to schools. schools are filled with energetic kids who dont care for such things. You wont find many kids with unique taste, just common generic crap the media feeds them like MTV, FOX and other stupid things.

  • @megumicosmetic

Sorry man! I feel you're pain.

  • @megumicosmetic O_O HOW THE HELL COULD THEY SAY SUCH A THING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Your teacher and your classmates must be retarded. This is pure class and beauty

    How old are those douchbags???

  • @megumicosmetic Man I feel for you. When I took a film class in high school, We watched classics like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Cool Hand Luke, and Bridge on the River Kwai. Our teacher wouldn't have been caught dead showing us Dumb and Dumber.

  • @megumicosmetic

You're class and you're teacher are fucktards.

  • @megumicosmetic Don't feel too bad. There are plenty of people out there who haven't developed any kind of imagination because they don't get out enough. They're weak minded fools who can't understand art and creativity. I know you probably don't care that I responded to a 2 month old comment, but I felt like I had to share that.

  • @megumicosmetic Can't fault you for trying, but...gotta know your audience. You can't expand their cultural awareness by criticizing their lack thereof, because then they'll get defensive and contradict you out of spite. You don't sell more Coke by insulting Pepsi drinkers, and forcing people to watch something they're not open to won't make them love it, no matter how beautiful, powerful, or emotionally evocative it might be.

  • @megumicosmetic Don't be too hard on them. They were obviously high when they made those comments.

  • @megumicosmetic so r u a teacher or a student

  • @megumicosmetic I'm sorry that your class is full of dumbasses. I know how you feel.

  • @megumicosmetic That teacher is disturbingly stupid, with all due respect.

  • @megumicosmetic Dude, this is why I stick to the bandroom, while yes there are a lot of potheads in there we are very nice people! (at least in my school its that way)

  • @megumicosmetic For some odd reason this made sense to me. I mean the ocean depths are still very vast and unknown just like space and its own anomalies. I think the entire point was trying to connect both worlds to each other and show that they are both unique and amazing.

  • @megumicosmetic

That teacher is a complete ignorant. But I undestand you. I loved Fantasia soo much I bought this movie as soon as I could. All my classmates said it was a dumb thing to watch. My brother told me the same, just as his friends. I keep the VHS stored until two years ago when my 5 years old niece (at that time) found it and started watching. It totally made my day when she asked me if she could keep it =D

  • @megumicosmetic that just makes me want to cry. i dont understand people.

  • @megumicosmetic

don't worry, most people are too dumb to comprehend real beauty, so you can feel special because you are better than them

  • @moondancer162 Agree with you, they're too stupid because they haven't soul or imagination. xP

  • @megumicosmetic I had something similar happen to me. It was during psychology class in college. We where going to have a debate, and our professor let us pick the topic in which we where going to argue. I submitted that we debate the pro's and con's of Eugenics. (A challenging enough topic, but I thought it would make for an interesting debate.) Well, WE decided WE where going to talk about legalizing pot. (By a very large margin of the votes.) I felt like my college money was going to waste.

  • Oh I guess I forgot that one and the swimming pool part with the little gitl too.But it still didn't have as much water as the other ones though.

  • My dad tells me this movie has alot of water.first you got the butterfly things coming out of the water, then the whales dancing in the ocean, then the poor tin soldier being tossed around in the sewrs, then the flamingoes dancing in the water then mickey(obviusly)with the brooms, then Donald and Noah's ark in the flood,And the spring sprite being born in the water and the rain, the only one that doesn't have any water is "Rhapsody in Blue".

  • @glitchmastaz10000 That's true, now I realize haha

  • @glitchmastaz10000 One of the main sequences of "Rhapsody in Blue" involved ice skaters in a rink did it not?

  • Star of indiana!

  • @Fathoms09 DCI love, baby! :)

  • imagine how trippy everyone would have thought this was if it was released in 1940

  • Labai gražu !

  • Holy shit, that ending just blows my mind. Moses sweet baby jesus.

  • 7:43 Apocalypse Now?

  • I watched this in my 9th grade art class and cried! everyone was like laughing at me!

  • Frilly

  • Space whales rock!

  • Beautiful! Those whales rock! And Respighi fits here. I wish Disney would keep on in Disney's dream of updating Fantasia each time it is aired.

  • IDK how I've never seen this before! I love the Pines of Rome. I'm just a little biased here as they left out the english horn solo completely. Sad day! LOL.

  • WHALES THAT FLY, IT'S THE END OF TIME!!!!!

  • @6:00 for the 4th movement?

  • ah I noticed some riffs that I recognise from mass effect, whoever wrote mass effect must have liked this music

  • I remember when I used to watch this movie every time I was at my granmas house. I loved it. Well, that was many years from now... but this still brings back so many memories. :')

  • and I thought rubberfruit was on LSD, but this takes the cake

  • lsd

  • They skipped the second movement. :( pines near a catacomb is like the best movement. Charlie vernon lays down those low F's at the end on bass trombone, so much win!!

  • @TromboneMasterMan Haha, fellow Trombonist! xD I know what you mean, our bass trombonist is so win at like all times :D And the whole Trombone melody bit in 6/4 is so powerful xD This movements are good too though... Especially the fourth movement but it can be very tiring -__-

  • @OtakuGirl001 haha I am a bass trombonist myself, so this just makes me get a feeling of epicness. <3 Charlie Vernon. The trombone soli in Catacombs is probably the most powerful part of the piece excluding the very end. Even the movements that the bones tacet (villa borghese and the janiculum) are so gorgeous. Respighi is probably my favorite composer. Ohh i know what you mean, this whole work takes so much air and control.

  • @TromboneMasterMan They actually skip the catacombs in this version, which is a crying shame because it is by far my favorite movement in this piece. Too scary for the kids, I suspect.

  • Comment removed

  • @ineluki2 i know, its an outrage, still an amazing performance. Yeah Friedman, Mulcahy, and Vernon would have made all the little kids cry with their epicness.

  • @OtakuGirl001 i'll assume from your username and comment that you're a girl who's into anime and plays the trombone?

yay, me too! xD tuba was my first choice, but i wasn't even 5 feet tall until 8th grade, so they wouldn't let me do it. boo, it's not like they're that heavy. >:| but that's okay because trombone is made of win!

  • @001hinata001 Haha, bullseye! And I shall assume from your username that you're into Naruto (which I used to be obsessed with!!) and from your vids that you watch charlieissocoollike :D *hi-five*

Also, strangely enough, it was a similar story with me, I wanted to play the trombone, but my arms were too short back then for the trombone my school had, so I played the euphonium when I was 9 for about a year and then changed to Trombone and I've been playing ever since! Trombones are the future :D

  • So long and thanks for all the fish!

  • 8:27 - Zerg swarm?

  • this really happens believe it

  • 8:30 The Whales are attacking! Get to te chopper!
