  • Why were they complaining when they had that!

  • If you look carefully, the orc that pronounces it GRONDA. His nose changes position when he starts to yell Grond(a). It happens at 0:50. The quality is bad, but you can still see it.

  • this is supposed to take place at night and with the volcano erupting to block out the daylight. It looks TOO FUCKING BRIGHT AND SHINY for a war zone. They put so much work into everything else it's like they looked at the last movie and said, "fuck it."

  • since they brought grond all the way from mordor why try breaching the gates without it ???

i was an orc i would so desert ...lol

  • Gothmog has cancer in his face.. that's why he is a mean person now..

  • Grond means "ground" in Dutch.

  • why the hell didnt they try that to start with ?

  • @JESTER588 because GROND!

  • @JESTER588 If they would've tryed with the grond to start then they probably would've still had trebuchets and a giant rock might be able to beat the grond. So that's why they didn't use it to start with just look at the seige towers.

  • nope chuck testa

  • Seriously, Gothmog is the ugliest motherfucker I know...

  • i'm so getting a grond for christmas

  • 0:10

I bet lot of them took arrow in the knee...

  • it looks like those orks love grond

  • orc1:come on destroy the gate whith your orc mussle

orc2:we are not weak i dont care if hudreds of you die trying to smash that gate down

smart orc:are you dum there is a a big bad ass wolf head battreing ram behind us

Grond:wait untill later that wolfs head coast a lot on yeaby

orc3: it doent look like a bunch of dead pepole are coming later to kill us

smart orc: fock this trolls bring up the wolf head battering ram

Grond: wooo look who tries to control the army

    orc1:cleaver dumass

  • @barkingboot I can't read that. Wtf is a mussle?

  • Lol Grond means Earth or Dirt in Dutch :P Just sayin'

  • but nothing could breach it. grond can and chuck norris

  • What do you mean they did'nt know they had it? He clearly did'nt think the gates were that strong, and when the orcs failed, he ordered up the battering ram. He probably did'nt want to use it until he had to.

  • Gandulf: "oh fuck, they've finally noticed"

Another goblin in the army turns to his pal and says "dude, i told u we should hav said something!!!"

Goblin 2: "just stfu and chant, no one likes a smart arse"

  • Dumb goblin: "But nothing can breach it! Im clearly an important rank and therefore know everything in my arsenal so i doubt i would be forgetting anything. Im also not blind so i would be able to see if there was a huge ass metal wolf a few yards behind me, so im sure that isn't the case"

dumber goblin: "what about Grond? -:)" *grins like a mental retard who thinks he's a genius coz he worked out 2+2 without a caclulator*

Dumb goblin:"oh yh! Good call dude!"

    Gandulf: "oh fuck, they've finall

  • I thought orcs were just dumb, but nevermind.

  • This IS a horrible scene.

  • @35up They were just testing its strength and losing Orcs at the same time. Gothmog would use Grond because it was stronger than they expected. I'm guessing the Orc Commander didn't know they had Grond.

  • Grond means Dirt in dutch XD

  • 8 PEOPLE WERE SOME OF THOSE ORCS WHO WERE GETTNG SHOT AT GATE

  • what are doing you useless fuck. gothmog says. it all locked in it's too fuckin strong. orc says

  • Man but this is the longest battle ever than the black gate.

  • Good thing they just happened to bring along Grond.

And YOU said we should leave it back home...HA!

  • awesome

  • Grond is the name for the hammer of the underworld. The first Dark Lord, Saurons Master, Melkor, wielded the original Grond in his battle with Fingolfin...king of the Elves in the First Age. LOTR is set at the very end of the Third Age.

  • first time i saw this thing was in lord of the rings: the battle for middle earth

i thought it was a glitch, becouse, grond means ground in the Netherlands...

so i thought i targetted the ground

  • Starting around 0:45 while they're chanting, listen to the jerk who is over-pronouncing the "d" at the end of "Grond."

  • @misterjohnpaul his voice sticks out like a sore thumb, such a pansy voice haha

  • @misterjohnpaul All:Grond

    Jerry: Duh

    All: Grond

    Jerry: Duh

    *all stare*

    Jerry: Problem?

  • @misterjohnpaul can't orcs have good diction???

  • ? where did those big rhinos go? they must of gotten stuck with grond behind them? and why not have them charge in?

  • oblivious uruk:nothing will breach!!

gothmog:grond will breach it you idiot!! why else would we bring a giant metal swinging wolf that just happens to operate as a battering ram?!?!

    oblivious uruk:oh.....yah....I guess so

  • i always shout it with them. GROND, GROND, GROND

  • @EastsideSILENCER777 Well,it doesn't sound so smart

  • Why didn't they bring up grond in the first place??? Would have saved them awful lot of time. Time which they could have use to turn upside down on minas before Rohan arrives :P

  • "But Nothing Can Breach It !" "Not even this Giant Ass battering ram we brought?" "Oh shit, didn't notice that."

  • GROND was the name of Morgoth's weapon

  • can somebody tell me how those rhinos at 0:30 are called ?

  • @Oesterreich1156 They apparently have no name, wish we could have seen more of the creatures of middle earth in the films :/

  • Without the Witch King screaming out the incantations of ruin with each thrust of Grond, this scene is left in the dust compared the the book. JRR really made the breaking of the gate come alive. This could have been one of the best scenes in the movie, if done properly.

  • Elephant Man born in another century? Where he didn't have to be all humble and nice and sweet to everyone, noo, he wanted mayhem and murder!

  • why didnt they use that in the first place

  • @seankinsellasean

Exactly. It's good they deleted this scene. It only makes them appear an unworthy foe, too stupid to remember the 340 ton battering ram they not only brought with them, but made sure to keep it's mouth's flame burning. Pitiful scene. The sad thing is, the lapse of thinking depicted in this scene really did happen on the set, for nobody to have pointed it out despite all the professionals and expense and attention to detail.

  • @TheJediCharles its funny because hes the general and he called them "useless scum" yet hes the one that decieded hmmm what will i pick to smash down the gate of a fortress a plank of wood or a giant battering ram thats has fire coming from its mouth one of the many reasons i preferd the 1st two movies, what was even worse than this i think was when the ghosts just came like locus it kind of took away from the horse guys saving the day, no?

  • @seankinsellasean

Yes, you're so right about the ghosts rendering the other armies rather less-determinative. However, it reminds me of the Ewoks role in ROTJ. I don't share the aversion most have concerning them, but they were the unexpected "tide turner". Had Endor lacked any indigenous life, the rebels would have failed. Making friends with them saved everything. So, I suppose such late-arriving overlooked powers are common in epics. But, they end up making the primary powers look pathetic.

  • Grond= The hammer of morgoth.

  • that orc talking to gothmog sounds way too human lol

  • GROND !! GROND !! GROND !!! GROND !!!

  • "Great engines crawled across the field; and in the midst was a huge ram, great as a forest-tree a hundred feet in length, swinging on mighty chains. Long had it been forging in the dark smithies of Mordor, and its hideous head, founded of black steel, was shaped in the likeness of a ravening wolf; on it spells of ruin lay. Grond they named it, in memory of the Hammer of the Underworld of old. Great beasts drew it, orcs surrounded it, and behind walked mountain-trolls to wield it"

  • So glad they cut this out. its kinda gives them a human appearance about them

  • Many say that Gondorians are pictured as poor soldiers in ROTK. Well, yeah but look at 0:10, there's quite a stockpile of bodies :)

  • "insert disc 2"

  • @Draver137 I install game right now, and thats what the game said, LOL!!! ????? wierd...

  • Weren't the Beasts pulling it supposed to be mumakil. Cause in that same Exerpt the mumakil were discribed as great beasts sometimes.

  • right at the end of this clip is where you have to change disks in the extended edition DVD. I was like 'whaaaat'

  • I'm totally like Grond on BFBC2 rush mode.

Replace grond with a blackhawk loaded with C4 and you've got a near replica of my time on that game.

  • Grond the Hammer of the Underworld.

  • This is an example of how NOT to defend your turf. General George S. Patton was a firm believer AGAINST fixed fortifications. When you hide behind delicate walls and have no intelligence to warn you or what's coming, you can expect to lose.

  • @MondoBeno warfare changed alot from trebuchets to world war 2

lets list the differances that would make fixed emplacements bad: long range, accurate, high explosive artilliary, an air force, long range engagements, rocket launchers, tanks, missiles and much more i expect, oddly enough they didn't have any of these in the castle age, and when cannons came about, they stopped building them . now tell me, how would those gondor soldiers have fared in an open battle?

    complete annihilation

  • Wait a minute. Did I hear some female voices in that crowd? I thought there were no female orcs...

  • @LotusDragon09

Then you thought wrong. J.R.R. Tolkien himself stated that there were female Orcs. As he wrote in one of his letters: "There must have been orc-women. But in stories that seldom if ever see the Orcs except as soldiers of armies in the service of the evil lords we naturally would not learn much about their lives. Not much was known."

  • HH!!!

    1488

  • lol why in never see this scene in the german TV version???

  • @Thetb93 its from the extended eddition, they cut it out ofthe cinematic veersion. tey also show Saruman dieing along with other epic shit in the extended version

  • Gothmog got his turtleneck from Old Navy^^

  • the gondorians have really shit defence againste the orcs

1)they should have had a moat built before the battle even begun

2)they should have used fire catapult which would be more lethal

and flaming arrows. that way the grond would be burnt down so would the siege towers . and even if the catapult did not hit the towers the flaming arrows would torch them

  • @boomerang403 Well there is the river near Osgiliath, if they could cross that then they'll get over a moat easily. And as for the siege towers the normal arrows bounce off them because its metal not wood. The fire catapults are only really useful to the orcs because they are attacking the city, so theres houses and everything which will burn down. The Gondorians are firing into a field, so a flaming missile would have little to no difference than one thats not on fire.

  • @sours2kaii8 well what about flaming arrows that would burn the siege towers and for the gron they would shoot it from long range by catapult if that didn't work,it would just be torched flaming arrows

  • @boomerang403 the towers are METAL not wood so flaming arrows would just bounce off them. By the time Grond was brought up some of the catapults had been destroyed and the gate was in danger of being bashed through I'd say most of the men had went down to the 1st level to help the defence, so the catapults wouldnt be in use. Even at that, Grond already was partly on fire, in its mouth:/

  • @sours2kaii8 Well clearly no. They are made of wood just look closely

  • this is extended cut right?

  • Weird.. How Could "Grond" Even Get To The Gate? While All' Those Dead Orks Are Still Lying There?.. o.o'

  • @dathdaniel123

    Because he's Grond! >_>

He is like Chuck Norris, just more metallic ._.

  • Comment removed

  • @dathdaniel123 which is why this scene was removed....it didn't really have a purpose and didn't really make sense

  • @dathdaniel123 Because there are 1.000.000 orcs more to remove them.

  • this scene is epic and cool but I think yeah, this scene was cut out because of the stupidity. Why try to use the small plank when u got a 60 foot batterin ram?

  • FroDooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • @RodriGez165 you pronounced it wrong, it should be "Frow Dooooooooooooow!!!"

  • why didn't they just use it in the first place hahaha

  • if anyone is wondering why there is no black people its because they are the orcs the film is all a giant metaphor

  • @3rixtat3 wrong if you read the books you will see that there are black people most of them live in harad

  • If they had Balrogs like back in the good old days of Morgoth the armored trolls that took out dozens of Gondorians when the gate was breached they would have been SCREWED

  • So if Grond is the Wolf's Head. Then who is the Orc General?

  • @NukemHigh225 Gothmog

  • "Grond will breach it!" "Oh, I was wondering what we were gonna do with that 60 foot battering ram"

  • so he didn't plan on using the giant flaming wolf ram unless he REALLY had to?

  • @Edd360 Well it's kind of hinted at that they had to bring it out of Osgiliath they probably had it there but didn't plan on using till the shit hit the fan.If they charged with it first they probably would of got all the trolls killed.

  • Gothmog is a balrog of Morgoth and an orc leader of Sauron and Grond is a battering ram of Sauron and Morgoth's Hammer of the Underworld

  • 0:57 The story continues on disc 2

  • If I was Grond I would get a headache!

  • GROND! GROND! GROND! GROND! GROND! GROND!

  • Grond is what Morgoth named his mace, Grond ,the hammer of the underworld.

  • Almost 10 years since the first LOTR film came out...wow...how time flies.

  • GROND WILL BREACH IT!!!!!!

  • is grond the former weapon of melkor?

  • orcs are soo sexy :D

  • Did Tolkien mention of an orc named Gothmog in his book.

  • @67nairb Yes, but it was really only in passing. After Aragorn brought his reinforcements in and things were looking bad for the army in the Pellenor fields it said that Gothmog was the Orc in command of the forces left in Osgiliath. He decided, after the unfortunate turn of events involving Aragorn and his army, to loose his forces into the field to try and turn the tide of the battle. Obviously he failed. :)

  • @LordGodsServant Thanks for the info.

  • @67nairb No problem :)

  • I don't get what "GROND" is exactly. Is it just something they created? Or was it a creature at one time? TO me it looks like it has fur so... Anyone know?

  • @chanceofhearts Grond was the dark lord Morgoths mace.

  • @wicNKWD37 So... that huge creature-like thing is a mace? Or was it just named after Morgoth's mace?

  • @chanceofhearts Grond was named after Morgoth's mace but it was described in the book as a Wolf's head as Gothmog said.

  • @chanceofhearts Morgoths mace.

  • Why is wolf's head on fire?

  • @67nairb He's a hothead. -.-

  • @DutchDansing LOL. But what I meant to ask is why was fire burning out of wolf's mouth and how did the battering ram have the name Grond?

  • @67nairb Eeh maybe is the fire just to make it look cool. And the name Grond eeeh well: Grond means ground in the Dutch language maybe Grond is referring to ground to bring gatehouses or walls to the ''ground''.

  • @DutchDansing You're right, the fire does make it look cool. Did you see the RANKIN BASS version of the RETURN OF THE KING from 1980? Grond was featured in that cartoon when the forces of Mordor were trying to break the gate of Minas Tirith. The wolf's head in that cartoon however ravening it looked, did not look anything the one Jackson's movie. It didn't look a wolf.

  • Does anybody know the name of the Orc Commander he yells at? Please

  • @BumbleBrook Gothmog yells at the orc commander named Murgash

  • 0:45 this isn't the football!

  • 39 people brought out Grond...

  • Gothmog never talks about the accident with the hedge strimmer

  • 6 people can't breach it.

  • For god's sake, shut up about how Githmog is ugly!

  • @SangaxOfxThexThunder It's Gothmog actually.

  • @AliminiumHydroxide I know, I just posted it before i looked at the spelling

  • @SangaxOfxThexThunder Sorry, hope I wasn't too much of a dickhead. it's just when I read up Tolkien online, I see some genuine mistakes.

  • @SangaxOfxThexThunder YOU SPELLED GOTHMOG WRONG

  • @IPawnt WILL EVERYBODY JUST SHUT UP ABOUT THAT, FOR FUCK'S SAKE! IT WAS A TYPO, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEADS!!!!!

  • @SangaxOfxThexThunder OMG YOU SPELLED GOTHMOG WRONG OMG!!!!!!

  • @IPawnt WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!!!

  • lol how despperate is that orc captain XD

  • lol the orc at 0:50 looks like a Who from The Grinch Stole Christmas XD

  • @nastrael He's a combo of the Grinch and Kevin Bacon.

  • @nastrael maybe he is it?:D

  • \/ funny cunt

  • Does Gothmog have Cancer?

  • @AaronRowski The people who designed Gothmog slapped a ton of plastic or something onto the mask and textured it.

  • @rock76222 It was peter jackson who slapped on the ton of mash lol.

  • thumbs up if they should had put this part in the Lotr conquest :) now that would had been epic using the grond to break the door and you can be the troll and BAM!!

  • Gothmog is badasss

  • Dear Santa....

  • no matter what comes through that gate you will stand your ground!(the gate gets knocked over and... ATTACK TROLLS)

  • GROND

  • getting hit in the nuts by grond would suck...real bad

  • it would be cool if Gondor shot catapults at Grond

  • Grond was the name of Morgoth's hammer which means "Hammer of the Underworld"

  • Gothmog:GET OUT THERE AND SMASH IT DOWN!

    Orc:WE CAN'T BREACH IT!

    Gothmog:BRING OUT THE WOLF'S HEAD!

    Orcs:GROND GROND GROND!

Gondorians:OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD!

  • GROND the Orc door knocker ;:D

  • Grond Grond Grond

  • that yellow dude is really weird looking i mean everything looks weird but most of it is his one arm and his face

  • Comment removed

  • That's what it's called the wolfs head I thought that was the rats head lol

  • Grond!Grond! Grond!

  • The wolfs head is chuck norris's penis :P

  • lol the wolfs head gets to the gate and its too tall

  • Yeah!

  • LOl man this part is so epic..i just don't get why people dislike this movie..morons

  • what are those things that are pulling grond?

  • @soukupb the book merely described them as 'great beasts' with no further explanation, so Peter Jackson took it upon himself to ensure they were given a design for the movie.

  • Gothmog as fierce as usual! ^^

  • Ah. so thats why they used the Giant Wolf head to break the gates to Minas Tirith. This scene is not included in the original version. Very cool scene!

  • its pretty badass when the orcs were chanting grond grond grond

  • What happened to his hand? is deformed

  • apparently orcs are made of plastic 0:13

  • damn in!! the orcs are ugly,, but gothmog is in a new level of uglyness

  • @spasticotter14 how do you know all this!? is it in the books?

  • fingolfin lol they most make a move about the silmarillion a long nice movie!!!! :D

  • If they had a big badass battering ram why didt they bring it up in the first place lol?

  • WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @spasticotter14

no Grond was Morgoths hammer-weapon with which he fought against elf Fingolfin
