Personally, I think this movie is bit underrated. You have to pay close attention if you want to really understand whats going on though. Kristy McNichol's performance in this film is definitely one of her best. It deals with the very real issue of what a person who has killed someone in self defense goes through emotionally. Especially when it's not clear that it was the only way.

I saw this in the movies because I loved Kristy so much (feathered my hair because she did! hehee), and it was one of 2 or 3 movies I've ever walked out of in the middle (the other Jean Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman's Double Team or whatever it was called - I like JCVD but that movie was horrible!). Anywhoo, even though I initially hated Dream Lover, I've been trying to find it forever now to see it again to see if it really was that bad, hehe.
It's available officially on DVD-r from Warner Archives. You can find it on their official site as well as "Just the Way You Are". Amazon has them also, but they cost a little more on that site.
