if you have line (from left to right), you can go directly to making cross avoiding spending time on making the L. Formula from line to cross is F R T 'R 'T 'F. Just be sure the line is horizontally oriented (from left to right).

At the begining I dont have the top yellow line and if i do the moves without it i will screw up so now what do i do?

What he doesn't tell you is that if at the beginning of step 4- if you have only one yellow or three yellow topped pieces in the yellow cross position, it means your particular cube is unsolvable. This happens when u take your cube pieces apart and put it together wrong. Only fix is to put it back together solved and restart it. Wasted 2 days because of his little omission :)

@usta4070 Didn't mention it in the video, but included it in the video description a while back (Click the "Show More" button above) since others had mentioned problems such as yours. I never really took apart my cube or had pieces pop when I made this video so I hadn't come across those situations. But glad you were able to discover what the cause of the problem is and fixed it :-)

I think it's your fault for taking it apart in the first place. The "How to Solve a Rubik's Cube" series is done in five parts, and it would be awkward to mention the fundamental problems such as yours in the final part.

my bottom 2 rows and all 4 sides have all colors aligned but when I do the algorithm from the line, holding the line horizontal, it DOESN'T make an "L". This doesn't appear to work in everybody's situation but it doesn't screw up my already aligned colors so I'll just keep trying.

Be sure to look at exactly how he is holding the cube, for example, if the blues are on the bottom..etc. After screwing up my cube, and going back to the first step for the 2nd time, I made sure to do this, and it helped a ton. Follow exactly everything he does. Peace guys! :)

For those of you who want to remember this algorithm a bit easier, think: "For the right to roam free". The first letter in each word corresponds to what face you should turn (F T R T R F). And then you have to think that the last three are inverted.

@johanjez I have a note in the description now. That only occurs if pieces were popped out, taken out, fell out, etc. and weren't put back properly (it does matter which way they are put back). You can manually pop out that piece which is left and fix it, or just fix the entire top layer to solve the cube. Then you'll be able to mix it up and solve it normally from now on.

HEY ALL YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE PROBLEMS SOLVING THE TOP CROSS! if no matter how many times you do the algorithm, you end up with 3 pieces instead of the entire cross (because the last piece remains upside down) then just remove that upside down piece from the cube and place it right side up. if some other pieces of the cube from the top layer fall off in the process, just remove them and put them in the correct place so that the cube looks how it does when it is solved.

When you solve the cross on the top edges, and the case is that there is line (straight yellow) you can use the pattern : F - R - U - Ri - Ui - Fi

then you will have the cross.

but the line should be from left to right/right to left.

Don't bother wasting time making the move from 2 edge pieces at the corner to 2 across it. In his notation, do F R T Ri Ti Fi and it get straight to the solved edges state.
