But I know, that the Greek nation that has spawned such art, culture and history, cannot be conquered by debt, and greed of international bankers. I have lisented many versions of these two songs and most of Greeks would say that Bithikotsis sings them best, but I really like Marios interpretation. @Chersonesos No it's definitely Swallow. Sparrow is a different kind of bird. This verse has a lot of symbolism. A swallow is a symbol of fidelity and hope. For Greeks it is a symbol of their long waited freedom. Now,I am no Greek, but I understand this clearly, because my people shares the same destiny,the same fate.

I ahve seen Bitikotsis and Dalaras singing those songs. Always in a concert with Theodorakis. Bitikotsis is probably the best one, bu I am very surprised how good Frangoulis ist. I know him from his own concerts, now I would love to see him too singing Axion Esti. Wonderful.
