  • .It really breaks my hart to see Greece in such social problems. But I know, that the Greek nation that has spawned such art, culture and history, cannot be conquered by debt, and greed of international bankers. But Greeks have to do this alone, not with the help of "FRIENDS" from the EU, who got them in trouble in the first place. Like Odysseas Elytis said in verses that follows:

  • @iskander982 Don't worry my friend we will rise again all we need is politicians that are going to guide us to the right path.Greece must fall to rise again stronger. And yes since WW2 Greece was trying to stand but all the (strong ones USA,RUSSIA) and all those ''friends''divided the people and the nation thats why we are to this position now

  • My bitter hands with the thunder

I am turning them back behind the times,

I am calling my old friends forth

    with threats and with blood!

  • It has tall mountains shaped like eagles

the vines in ranks on the volcanoes' flanks

    and the houses more white

in the neighbourhood of the azure.

  • Sun of Justice

and you myrtle, branch of glory,

    do not, I beg you

    do not forget my country!

  • vuk1973july

Did you ever get a translation of the Greek lyrics fro this song?

If not, do you want them now?

  • @JimmyTheGreek2000 yes post it

  • @JimmyTheGreek2000 Thank you very much,I like those songs acting with big orchestra, and the lyrics , give me a ethnic feeling... the swallow,I regard it as one of the Greek Symbols, just like the Chinese symbol,in Chinese it means spring and love~~ these symbols can move me so much

  • Outstanding!!

  • any translation or greek lyrics for the second song

  • Superb!

  • I have lisented many versions of these two songs and most of Greeks would say that Bithikotsis sings them best, but I really like Marios interpretation. His versions are more modern, and puts these timeless poems to 21 century. Does anyone know did Mario Frangoulis ever sing "Της Αγάπης Αίματα" and "Ανοίγω Το Στόμα Μου"?

  • @iskander982 τραγούδησε το "ανοίγω το στόμα μου" στον live δίσκο του "Φεγγάρι ερωτευμένο"

  • @iskander982 Yes, there is a YouTube recording of "Ανοιγω το Στομα μου" by Mario - uploaded by me, actually! He's outstanding. I don't know about "Της Αγαπης Αιματα".

  • Wonderfull!

  • Magicians carried off the body of May,

They buried the body in a tomb of the sea,

They sealed it up in a deep well,

Its scent fills the darkness and all the Abyss.

God my Master Builder, You too among the Easter lilacs,

God my Master Builder, You felt the scent of Resurrection!

  • Α SOLITARY SWALLOW and a costly spring,

For the sun to turn it takes a job of work,

It takes a thousand dead sweating at the wheels,

It takes the living also giving up their blood.

God my Master Builder, You built me into the mountains,

God my Master Builder, You enclosed me in the sea!

  • @iskander982 actualy i think it`s a solitary sParrow

  • @Chersonesos No it's definitely Swallow. Sparrow is a different kind of bird. This verse has a lot of symbolism. A swallow is a symbol of fidelity and hope. For Greeks it is a symbol of their long waited freedom. Now,I am no Greek, but I understand this clearly, because my people shares the same destiny, the same fate.

  • @iskander982 thanks for the info :)

  • Absolutely beautiful. Can someone post a translation in English. I have one in Serbian, but i would like an english version for all the english speakers

  • If we (Greeks!) could ONLY do our finances as well as we sing and write poetry !!!

  • Maybe we shouldn't. That would bring the end to our poetry. Unless we can have both.... :-)

  • ok, "Barbarian" ;-)

I will do that for you in a pm.

  • Wow, he looks different with longer hair, but how divine!!!

  • I would appreciate if someone would send me the words of these two beautiful songs, together with an English translation, please.

  • I ahve seen Bitikotsis and Dalaras singing those songs. Always in a concert with Theodorakis. Bitikotsis is probably the best one, bu I am very surprised how good Frangoulis ist. I know him from his own concerts, now I would love to see him too singing Axion Esti. Wonderful.

  • who is the singer

  • The singer is the fantastic, unique, one-and-only Mario Frangoulis!! He sings in five languages, and sings anything from opera to jazz!

  • is there a cd where he sings these songs

  • No, unfortunately not. But he has a lot of CDs out, also in Italian (Passione, where he sings Mario Lanza songs), English (Music of The Night) and mixed ones like the Acropolis Concert, etc. A very good double CD with some excellent Greek songs is Feggari Erotevmeno.

  • The lyrics and the music are in my blood. Now that all my friends from Greece are dead or back home, who will sing this at my funeral?

  • You'd better sing to yourself as long as you live... :))) Do not think of the end... Who cares if anybody would sing then? You are not going to know that anyway... Cheers!!! :)

  • This video is a response to all the crap music and songs that Greece is filled with the last 20 years. The days of Aksion Esti have past with no return. Elytis, Theodorakis who has taken your place?

  • I am proud of my non greek friends who are able to appreciate this kind of music...

  • Perfect songs to close your eyes to and imagine our mediterranean culture. Greek music in my opinion represents this.

  • Indeed it does.

This music is beautiful and has an epic quality to it.

It also reminds one that the Greek people fought bravely against the Nazis.

These struggles for a better future are common to all free peoples.

    Your friend from Lebanon.

  • You know a lot about Greece. You surprised me when I read the term epic quality, what is absolutely correct and made me think that you must be somehow close to greek culture.

  • yep, they fought EXTRA bravely!

  • Odysseus Elytis , Nobel Prize 1979... the poet of this song

    ---

All Greeks know these poems of O.Elytis. Some of us grew up on them. I had "Μαρια Νεφελη" with me when I left Greece :-)

  • My God master builder

you walled me in in mountains

    My God Master builder

you shored me up in the seas

    Sorcerers

    and buried it

    in a sea grave.

  • For an Angel far off.

    Comes a sole swallow

    and Spring is precious

For the Sun to go round

    many toil

    Thousands of dead

    to be in the wheels

    and the living

    to shed their blood

  • The "easy part" goes on like this :

    "Thousands of dead,

    must be in the wheels,

    Thousands of alive

    must give their bload, too!

    My God , first master,

you built me inside the mountains,

    My God, first master,

you enclosed me inside the sea."

    etc.

  • Don't worry about the meaning of the song, friends.

The poetry is sourealistic actually ,and even the Greeks could hardly understand it !

I can translate the beginning for you ( the easy one ) :

    "The swallow is one,

and the spring is too precious,

in order to bring back the sun,

a lot of work is needed!"

The second part is about the sun of justice and is completely sourealistic !

  • Wonderful song, I listen to it every day. Thank you Outis for uploading it. By the way, is he late in the entrance? He starts with "Helidoni" misses "Ena to"... No matter, he has a great voice... I think this is a revolutionary song. Do you know where to find its translation?
