  • I always loved the art,and that song fits it so well.

  • what is the song?

and OBEY rocks love all the art work :)

  • some retarded ass asking what is obey, lol

  • wat this "Obey" thing all about??

    **PLEAZ ANSWER!!!***

  • its about corporate advertising and how its all telling you to do something.

  • You have the internet...its better if you find out yourself

  • shepard fairey put up posters of a wrestler guy named andre the giant w/ the word 'obey.' thats it. its just a symbol of graffiti.

  • dont talk about shit you dont know, this has nothing to do with graffiti, its street art not graffiti

  • chill dude. both fall under the category of vandalism. its just semantics.

  • as would unhinging bathroom stall doors

  • actually youre the one talking about shit you dont know about.

  • and for those new to the "art world"...using referense photos is NOT plagiarism!

  • really? How many honestly think he's a "plagiaristic" artist? Have you seen his galleries of original works? compared to the um...like 10 iconic images that he has remade, because they are ICONIC that's half the point of OBEY. Once it has the OBEY symbolism on it, the image is no longer of Shepard Fairey but of the entire campaign. I'm not new to the vast degree of ingorance on youtube, but seriously, it's no complex information..if you don't want negative 10 feedback, know what you talk about

  • art is resistance, sheperd fairey is an artist but the message is clear"'we don't want any of this new world order shit" It doesn't matter thats he supports obama and that obama is definately new world order. they probably think change is actually coming. but the art is more important than party line.....ZZZZ

  • obey is an artist more like graffiti

  • Sounds like Chris Cornell....

  • I'm guessing Audioslave based on the the guitar effects. But I think RATM better demonstrates the feeling Fairey is trying to create.

  • No man...This is actually Chris Cornell...From Audioslave, the song is called Gasoline...

Still a great fucking good song.

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

THE NEW WORLD ORDER IS HAPPENING NOW!!!

    WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!

WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE AND FIGHT BACK FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!!

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

    WAKE THE FUCK UP WORLD!!!

  • I know Chris Cornell was in Audioslave.

  • red and black man!! you damm right!! bro!

  • is Obey a band?

because the face is on alot of skate shops, and t.h.u.g. games

  • Not a band...

If you listen to punk then you would know what it is.

    It basically deals with propaganda.

  • can someone tell me the name of the song

  • rip off? how often do you confuse exploitation with cultural support?

  • Wow I saw the subtle comparison to Mike Giant who is technically more talented than Shep but what seperated Shep is using more democratic objects and mediums that can be easily mass produced. Yes the Warhol Formula to the 100th power!

  • Haha yea bad brains obey poster. I WANT THAT!

  • I remember seeing an OBEY poster for the first time on the Long Island Railroad - right before descending into the tunnel, on the right hand side (on a west-bound train.) I was always impressed by it, even before I was aware of what OBEY was. That one has since been removed, but there's a pretty awsome one when looking south on First and First, and a few others around New York.

  • andre was the man. so i give it to obey 4 useing a cool character.

  • OBEY. QUESTION EVERYTHING.

  • This is like the punk version of all your base.

  • he started as a student in college and created andre the giant sticker as a project

  • OBEY POSSE WE RUN THIS CITY

  • andre the giant

  • its just the name like seen or w/e im guessing

  • l0ve obey got a shirt on right now

    power to the people tee!

  • one of the best clothing lines ever im wearing an obey shirt at this very moment lol

  • I've always loved OBEY. I percieve Shepard Fairey as a young revolutionary, sending subliminal messeges, expressed through his art, and his messege is clear.

  • subliminal or clear??? make up your mind.

  • whats the name of this song on the video

  • song is "gasoline" by audioslave singer criss cornell is from soundgardern but the band is bass, drums, and lead guitar from rage against the machine.. very good band prolly best ever lol i like em

  • whats the name of this song

  • i have one of the picture on a shirtt

  • Good job, thanks for letting all of us know!

  • ahahhahahahahah appreciated

  • theese are like a poster from russia 1920:D

    but i love them

  • no there not posters from russia there from some dude name shepard fairey. when he first came up with the idea in 1986 for obey it was called "Andre The Giant Has A Posse" and the logo had a picture of the wrestler but then andre threaten to sue him so he changed the name to obey and logo changed to a zoomed in version of andre's face from the original logo. the name obey is from a famous scene in the movie "They Live".

  • someone message me what obey is. lol

  • an awsome writer

  • sorry to say a plagiaristic graphic designer.

  • MANIFESTO

The OBEY sticker campaign can be explained as an experiment in Phenomenology. Heidegger describes Phenomenology as "the process of letting things manifest themselves." Phenomenology attempts to enable people to see clearly something that is right before their eyes but obscured; things that are so taken for granted that they are muted by abstract observation.

  • The FIRST AIM OF PHENOMENOLOGY is to reawaken a sense of wonder about one's environment. The OBEY sticker attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the sticker and their relationship with their surroundings.

  • Because people are not used to seeing advertisements or propaganda for which the product or motive is not obvious, frequent and novel encounters with the sticker provoke thought and possible frustration, nevertheless revitalizing the viewer's perception and attention to detail.

  • The sticker has no meaning but exists only to cause people to react, to contemplate and search for meaning in the sticker. Because OBEY has no actual meaning, the various reactions and interpretations of those who view it reflect their personality and the nature of their sensibilities.

  • Many people who are familiar with the sticker find the image itself amusing, recognizing it as nonsensical, and are able to derive straightforward visual pleasure without burdening themselves with an explanation. The PARANOID OR CONSERVATIVE VIEWER however may be confused by the sticker's persistent presence and condemn it as an underground cult with subversive intentions.

  • Many stickers have been peeled down by people who were annoyed by them, considering them an eye sore and an act of petty vandalism, which is ironic considering the number of commercial graphic images everyone in American society is assaulted with daily.

  • Another phenomenon the sticker has brought to light is the trendy and CONSPICUOUSLY CONSUMPTIVE nature of many members of society. For those who have been surrounded by the sticker, its familiarity and cultural resonance is comforting and owning a sticker provides a souvenir or keepsake, a memento. People have often demanded the sticker merely because they have seen it everywhere and possessing a sticker provides a sense of belonging.

  • The Giant sticker seems mostly to be embraced by those who are (or at least want to seem to be) rebellious. Even though these people may not know the meaning of the sticker, they enjoy its slightly disruptive underground quality and wish to contribute to the furthering of its humorous and absurd presence which seems to somehow be antiestablishment/societal convention.

  • Giant stickers are both embraced and rejected, the reason behind which, upon examination reflects the psyche of the viewer. Whether the reaction be positive or negative, the stickers existence is worthy as long as it causes people to consider the details and meanings of their surroundings. In the name of fun and observation.

  • whoa whoa its wheat pasting

  • where do you get all the obey pics from?

    please tell me

  • You rock Shepard Fairy.

This guy deserves to be reaping the rewards of all that work. Think about how long some of that shit would have taken to put together in illustrator.

He has the color schemes, composition and line weight spot on and really pulled wheat pasting into the spotlight, which inspired a lot of amazing artists to use this medium. 10/10
