  • this is a legit love song

  • I heard this song for the first time yesterday. Once the song finished I was in a trance. Tears fell my heart stopped. This is the sound of one's heart. I know I will be of old age listening to this song thinking of a person, place, and time. Classic music that is TIMELESS. Thank you Billie for this one. May your soul rest in peace.

  • A wonderful song from a great artist. Thanks for sharing

  • @betsybooth22 at least you can appreciate her music. I hate it when people trash great artists just because it's not what they're used to hearing.

  • I love this song... It's so beautiful, so enchanting..

It's so sad that such days of decency are dead.. so sad..

  • Everyone is going to hate me for this, but I don't like Billie Holiday's voice. However, I do LOVE how she sings this song very tenderly and the arrangement is great. It seems that the singers in the other versions I've heard, like Bea Wain, just rush through it with no feeling.

  • god i love you miss holiday

  • True and gorgeous.

  • Wow!!! I love this song!!! Very, very beautiful!!!!

  • Yo go to my head and heart for ever...

  • [crappy interface with the black bar down

  • *comment about being more intellectual, because this is nothing like Katy Perry or Lil wayne, back in the day*

  • Ella Fitzgerald made an amazing remake of this song circa 1957

  • Like a summer with a thousand Julys... heaven. And Billie is divine here.

    Thank You.

  • Love You Ev..

  • Elegance, pure and honest music... that was their era. It's very rare or not all to hear music as good as this today.

  • see the diffrence between this song and other song {climax in my head}

  • now i know were the saying,, '' music to my ears came from'' jesus this is pure gold, so underrated .

  • just listen to that voice,, oh my godd,, good thing she dint see the 60's when this world started to go to hell,, ( morally speaking )

  • Gosh I love this song thanks for putting up music like this

  • In order for anyone to appreciate todays music, They must go back and listen to where music came from, It's original roots. If kids today grow up and just say "My music was the best'. They've missed the point.

  • This is class! Now I'm drinking some red wine and hopefully it doesn't go to my head! Cheers Billie!

  • They just don't make music like this anymore!

  • Unparalleled!

  • when i'm older...i want my kids to grow up listening to great music. I don't want them to say when they're older, "back in my day Ke$ha and Lil Wayne were the greatest hits...not this *new artist/genre of music goes here* crap"

  • i like the bella wagner remixvideo answer also very much

    nice interpretation ...

  • reminds me sooo much of fallout, never gets old

  • 'You intoxicate my soul with your eyes" wow ....

  • I heard the boys singing this in "Swing Kids" and looked it up

  • Ó!

    quem votou q nao gosta

tah bebado de algo ruim ! ; P

  • Best version ever of this song. Nobody will ever replace you Billie.

  • oh! she's beautiful!

  • i feel this to a man i know,he makes me feel crazy, ilove this song,i havent the ghost of a chance either

  • Comment removed

  • i just recently fell under her spell, i usually stick to death metal but everyone needs beauty now and again. i wish music to day had such a thing

  • Wow! What an unusual choice music genre ... death metal ... to Billie Holiday. I listen her music every day and never get tired listening to this song. God Bless "Lady Day" and "Prez."

  • she was simply beautiful!

  • Billie lives in all passionate songsters!!! I was raised by jazz musicians. Her voice, if you really close your eyes and listen, is a phenomenal melodic line... just like a horn. Je` taime billie

  • Great site. Thanks for putting in the lyrics!

  • from one junkie to another,i salute you

  • I love this song :)

  • Best female vocalist of her time (of what im aware, dont trash me if im wrong)

  • look up 'the blues are brewing' billie holiday. U can see her singing live, thejazash...its a fantasic vid on here

  • Pure magic!

  • There is some thing sad, sweet and tragic in the voice of this woman that haunts you long after you listen to her sing. Being an immigrant to this country I only become aware of Ms. Holiday's existance when I saw the movie "Lady Sings the Blues ".

Since then I have enjoyed listening to her and to many other African-American great blues and soul singers.

She is way at the top.

  • It's madness. O Billie , for ever with us.

  • Ben Webster Played Tenor.

  • She goes to my head and stays in my heart

  • love this song and i love lady day... i will sing it over and over again because i love it.

  • Who's playing Tenor on this? anyone know?

  • te fuiestes sin dejarnos un adios.

  • dedicated to my loving husband

  • Happy new years . Billie 2011

  • Beautiful smile to match a beautiful voice. There's no other like Billie Holiday.

  • why is everyone who comments on a billie holiday song always have to mention that they are 13-14? is it necessary?

This is by far my favourite song by Billie Holiday, no one could ever replace her talent

  • @squareanimations yes they do have to mention their age because most of the time folks think that ppl from the ages of 10 thru 24 dont kno squat about real, irreplaceable music like that of the iconic Billie Holiday.

  • @squareanimations because it is not expected of them to like her or even know of her.. many teens care amore about bieber or soulja boy or soe sh#t like that

  • Love it!

  • The greatest, no doubt

  • Lady Day is one of my all time favorites...fell in love with her haunting voice when I was a teenager

  • I listen to Billie Holiday when I am troubled or feeling low, it is always consoling.

  • This evergreen belongs to Billie Holiday exclusively! Such emotion! No comparison.

  • i have zero doubt you are fat bald and like 75 years old .

  • You guys do know this song is about the drug Diacetylmorphine (aka Heroin) in which she was addicted to most of her life.. Of course this song is more or less about the positive effects of being on heroin...

  • @JahRed24x how come? because, she did not compose the lyrics.

  • I only wish they could find someone out there who could write music like this.

    Mr Lost Horizons

  • man what the hell am i listening toooo?

sinse when was there good music without constant swearing in it???

dude im 15 and im listening to this song and a song by Duke Ellington and im like !!! this stuff is amazing!

  • Incredible song--this is really beautiful. I adore Billie Holiday.

  • there will never be another like lady day.

  • sing it girllllllll - we love you.

  • Wow..how much i just LOVE her!

  • For the only person I've ever loved.

  • My first time hearing this song...and ILUVIT! Billie, the queen will never bhe forgotten!

  • I'm on a Billy Holiday research mission because I noticed that all the new movies that go back to the 30's or 40's would all play these songs of that time and I looked at the musci credits wondering who's great voice is that, come to find out was no other then Billy Holiday. Amazing

  • @stevieplez2 what movies are you referrring to?

  • they don't make music like this today. I should've been born in those days...

  • @jantonio55 I agree with you on this! Those were the days of great music!!*sigh* Its a pity that the younger generations are unaware of this blissful music!

  • Essa mulher tinha veneno na voz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply fantastic.

  • To Jazash: I'll be 60 next July and feel exactly like you....Those were the days!

  • Timeless masterpiece..A time of some of the best music that ever was and ever will be!

Thank you @mokacode for a divine share

Thank you jazzinsomnia for a phenomenal post!

  • Me encanta es de lo mejor escuchar a esta mujer! =)

  • ughhh compare this to music now and its like comparing an angel to a fly that just came from eating crap....so sad..

  • @mimihomie jajja that was fun, but true the music of now it's really awful.

I love BH she was and will be the best!!!

  • excuse me while i cry

  • This is one of my most favorite Swing standards. The Piano riff is intoxicating.

    Beautiful

  • This goes out to My Special Mister ;) Amazing Song, For an Amazing Person... I love you Baby!

  • @QuantumQuacks better? not really. It just a diferent type of music so it can not be compared at all.

  • angelical voice. I could listen to it all day long.

  • She was so beautiful inside and out...but I HATE how Diana Ross played her in "Lady Sings the Blues"....she didn't look anything like her.

  • Lady Day Live's !

  • like the bubbles in a glass of champagne.... suk... tante billie.. som du ku sige det..

    bless!

  • @QuantumQuacks

    You need help buddy.

  • Espetacular.....sem mais palavras...........

  • she's my goodes!

  • I *really* love the arrangement of this song by The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Highly recommend it for anyone who likes this song :)

  • This is Jazz

<3 so romantic yet so nostalgic

  • Saturday morning, 8:00 A.M. April 10, 2010. Winters gone finally, my windows are open and Ms. Holidays classics are reeling off of my playlist as passersby stop and linger for a moment revelling in the class that is Billie Holiday. Coffee is brewing on the stove in an old fashioned percolator, the smell of bacon permeates the house, and life is good my friends. How lucky we were to have had her, how grateful I am I found her.

  • she seems to have sung it differently here than other vids! this is faster and i like it most..

  • honey to my ears

  • i like the piano more in louis version a bit more but i like this one more

  • Wonderful. Period.

  • jazz is the greatest thing the USA will ever give the world.

  • That hits the spot so perfectly...

  • totally agree. this is perfect.

  • Gorgeous. Thank you for posting.

  • beautiful !!!!!

  • bliss

  • @acallender58 if you don't mind me asking, who was your father? I'm very interested in music history and I'm currently taking a jazz history course...which is wonderful history by the way!

  • music like the world will never see again, billie holiday will be an icon forever

  • They don't know how to write songs like this, 100 of the best could not do it.

  • how i could listen to this wonderful lady, every minute of the day.. ive loved this song for years, i never tire of listening to it..

  • @foreverashcroft i feel the same, i could listen to this song all the time...

  • one of the greatest songs ever!!!

  • This song lingers like my ghost-of-a-chance romance

  • Wonderful.....I found this song in an old book my gram gave me, and now i play and sing it everyday!!!! i wish i was alive back then! you old buggers had it good back then!

  • She has such a smooth voice. It's very relaxing and beautiful.

  • okay sooo im 14 i loooveee hiphopp and r&b..ive heard of billie holiday and i knnow who she was but i have NEVER listened to her.....its honestly not bad....not bad at all..didnt know what i was missing :)

  • My Grandma use to love this and we would listen to it all the time. Those were the days.

  • BILLIE HILIDAY SO FINE

  • Hey I'm only 14 and honestly i love music like this<3 i wish i can go back in time and be born in the 20's and 30's and 40's because they knowwat the true essence of music is<3

  • you got your head on straight for 14:)

  • lol thanks :)

  • @TheJazash Whose to say you were not born in the 20's or 30's? :-) Furthermore whose to say you can not travel back again.... You'd be amazed by what your untapped mind abilities can do....

See you up in Harlem at Smalls .... (June 3, 1938)

    Enjoy

  • Well said! No multitrack recording or punches(studio lingo). One pass with the entire ensemble.....that was it. Take into account the civil rights movement hasn't occurred yet, but at least women were allowed to vote......there's always a catch when it comes to going back in time.

  • There is more music out there, listen to some of the teens too.

    Mr Lost Horizons

  • @TheJazash omg you rock:)

  • @TheJazash Love youir comment about the music....but you may be wrong about going back in time....the real trick will be to get people playing music with the same emotion today!

  • @TheJazash omg same as me.....lol...my mo saids i'm to mature and an old-tennager since i was born.. heheheh..

  • @TheJazash you wouldn't want to go back in time then, trust me.

but i see where you're coming from, the music industry has collapsed, anyone can become the next big thing with little talent and a heavy amount of production and manipulation, plus a strong Autotuned voice. its just frustrating, but no other person could ever replace Billie, not to her standard anyway.

  • @TheJazash strictly for the music ..because these artists lives werent cakewalks.. not being allowed to perform in certain places and prejudice that forced many a frustrated musicians to overdose on drugs as miss holiday did.. if only today's "artists" who know nothing about these struggles performed as well.. omg.. I love this music real voices real talent not justin bieber nonsense

  • @TheJazash I totally agree.. I would give my all to only spend one night in a jazzclub to listen to music like this

  • @TheJazash You wanna go through the Great Depression and World War II?

  • i cant help but want to listen to this song over and over and over !!!! I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!

  • ohh billy holiday I love u, your music is pure gold :)

  • i wuv billie holiday

  • fuck sake, in every style of music, people piss and moan about this that and the other, i cant b fucked with any1s opinion anymore, just listen to the music or...y'know dont.

  • :] YOU GO TO MY HEAD

  • Guys,it doesn't matter if your 5 or 50 or for that matter 500 yrs old. This music is a classic, will Always be a classic and has such a heartfelt meaning to it. Billie lived a living hell ;a hell in which most can not even fathom.Sold into a brothel at the age of eleven. This poor angel gave us her best!! Thank You Billie for you !

  • hermosa, intensa y romantica canción, estupendamente interpretada por la gran incomparable e inolvidable Billie Holiday.

  • aerodc8: You're right. When we want fulfilment, perfection, emotion, we have to go back.

  • Oh how true are there lyrics :(

  • Nice, doesnt seem to do it . Excellent? nahh, that doesnt do it. Well, i like it. Anybody have a word i can borrow?

  • My nephew at 17 is considered 1 of the top jazz pianists for his age group in the country. A bunch of kids his age play at a cafe on Sat. & Sun nights & it's wonderful to hear these kids play tunes like this beautiful song. For a while last year there was a fad for 40's big band music among high school kids. They all dressed up in "zoot" suits & 40's attire. & danced to the big band sound. It was great to see.

  • you can thank fallout 3 for that fad

  • Who is he, where does he go to school? I'm also a jazz pianist of a similar age and I'd like to get to know some of the other jazz pianists of my generation.

  • The sad thing about the music scene from the 70's up to now is there are none of the classic masterpieces you can see from the 20's through the 60's Motown sound. There's nothing "80ish" or "90ish" or 21st cty classic sounds today.I was born in 75 & I have to agree with the poster who was born in 82. This music has style & class & from ppl who truly understand suffering.

  • She was awesome.

  • ♥

  • The way she sings it I can't help but hear "a summer with a thousand Jew lies"

  • To me there`s nothing depressing about this song. I mean Billie Holiday sang "Gloomy Sunday" which is a pretty damn sad song, but this song to me represents the beauty that can be found in human longing. I find it encouraging that the protagonist can find such beauty in her unreciprocated love for another human being. The mere fact that love exists is enough for a "summer with a thousand julys" to exist as well. To me this song is an ode to love in and of itself.

  • I was born in 1982 and my generation has pretty much NOTHING to show for either. I can't believe some ppl call this music depressing. If liking Billie Holiday is depressing, so be it, at least I know I have a little something called taste.

  • I was born 1984 & if i hear this music near to people( If there listenig) they think I'm a freak.......So I hear it with my ipod.

  • Forget what people think. I listen to it on my laptop loud enough for others to hear. I could careless what they think.

  • you are 25 years old, don't you think its time to stop caring what people think and share the gift of this amazing music with any who might hear it? dont ever be ashamed of the great ones!!

  • The thing is that I have the look of a 20 year old man and a voice of a 15 year old teen....so, imagine a guy like this hearing billie holliday instead of reggeton, plus the firends I have are 20-22 years old...

  • i'd tell you the same thing if you were 10 years old. never be ashamed of what you love or the things you know to be good and true. period.

  • @UndercoverSkinner So? you like great music , live with it.

  • @UndercoverSkinner

so what? i'm 22 and i'm listening this aswell

    it just sounds great

doesn't matter what some1 els thinks, does it?

  • @UndercoverSkinner I'm 19 and I can't get enough of this music. Although it is embarrassing sometimes to be the only teen who even knows who Lady Day is... :sigh:

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • a lovely song to listen to...as you are preparing to go out for an evening of fun...gives you a touch of empowerment...no matter what may come. :)

a splash of Shalimar can't hurt either...

  • i was born in the wrong era.......

  • @Lutah79 amen.... U_U

  • @Lutah79 sad but true.

  • the fact that some instruments r out of tune adds 2 the character of the performance; billie ur fantastic!

  • Bilie Holiday är formidabel och vilken frasering"

  • tengo ganas de comer algo dulce, no se helado me vendría bien.

  • Billies in MY singer. I absolutelly love her. But you must listen Betty Carter siong this song and you'l find a connection. No other singer have rendered "You Go To My Head" like B. Carter. Billie remains always THE singer, though.

  • I came on Youtube fully intent on just carousing through her songs, but that is siimply impossible.

Each song I find by her, I`m intent on only listening to so much of it, but I must hear it all!

You just have to stop and appreciate her music.

  • I adore this track and find the chord progression astonishingly morose and drunk at the same time. So, my question is, does anybody know what the chords may be. It would be great to be able play this on my guitar. thanks!

  • If you want the score please send my your email

  • i was definitely born in the wrong decade. this music is incredible.

  • i agree modern music such as rap is terrible

  • I know. More than daily I find myself wishing I could have met Billie or gone to a show of hers, just to here her sing would have been incredible.
