A) flanker is nato code name for su-30 MKI not su-27
B) where is F-35, which is by the way number 1 now.
C) all the orders for f-22 have been canceled by every govt. because of a major fault and that is its stealth goes away when the jet is exposed to water as in if operating in rain. the fighter is just as visible as a 747 even of pulse radar.
D) Rafel and Grippin are on the top list, they are missing..

@mayankpar The US had several JSF fighters they were testing. I personally wouldn't consider them as a "top 10 fighter" in 2009.
The reason the F-35 or T-50 haven't had issues with RAM paint was due to the fact that they are still fairly basic prototypes & do not require RAM paint all the time. So if it would erode, who would care?
The only real problems the F-22 has is the RAM corrosion (which all production stealth aircraft will have, the B-2 has it) & a problem with the air feed. That's it.
thankx for the intel friend. I still think when its a fighter nothing comes close to the "F-15" the size of the jet. Plus in the Russian side Mig-29 is the one I love the most. The best thing about it is the PTW and The thrust vectors. Would really wanna see these two babies take on each other.
As for Russian aircraft, I too would have to go with the Mig-29SM. It is a true multi-role fighter (still limited by its low payload), has powerful engines, it's very durable, quite maneuverable when close in, but the only things that limit it is it's very short range & small payload.
@franknbeans4761 they have Upgraded the Mig-29 with the payload and range issues. With force multipliers and refuelling options the range is not a concern. I am from India and we have inducted 2 squadrons of Mig-29s. The only issue i find with it is the fixed wing technology. Our scientists have invented some remarkable BVR weapon systems, ranging somewhere between 90-110 Kms. And our enemy is pretty close so we don’t need that bigger range. LOL
@mayankpar The upgrade to the Mig-29 in terms of range & payload only made minor differences. The Mig-29 SMT received the most upgrades in terms of fuel having about 6,100 liters of internal fuel & roughly 8-9,000 lbs of ordinance. That being said, it was only made to be a front-line fighter, so range wasn't taken too seriously. Russia also only has 20 tankers so aerial refueling probably isn't always an option. India has the best Mig-29 fleet, now that it is receiving the Mig-29K.
@franknbeans4761I was talking from the Indian prospective. you said it right that we have one of the best Mig-29s and they are doing a fine job as Interceptors. Any how the combat range is not more than 2000-2500 kms. And with the second largest fleet of "globe masters" I think we can very well manage that. As i mentioned in my last comment the need of the day is BVR and somehow it has taken out the real feel of aerial combat. its more like a simulated flight now..
@mayankpar Exactly, BVR missiles are becoming more important everyday. The key is to have them with great AWACS support otherwise the fighters would have a lot of difficulty finding & engaging enemy aircraft. It's a good thing India is becoming much more active in Red Flag operations. The Indian Air Force has made a lot of great leaps not only in aircraft quality but also pilot quality in the last 10-15 years.
@franknbeans4761 My friend, I still long for a classic "dog fight” . Where, men and machine are tested to their limits. If BVR is the key we can use UMA. And yes India was part of some of the key red flags. And the aviators have come out with some flying colours. The Modernization process is on and I look forward for a complete air dominance by the IAF in the region... USAF is classic and will always be that, but i guess the chaps are losing the edge over technology.
@mayankpar Actually, the IAF Big-21 Bison was actually quite stealthy in Alaskan Red Flag missions in 2008 due to it's low RCS & it's jamming pods. It was hard to detect until it was actually close in.
The only regional power that I could see challenging India would be China, but only due to it's superior numbers & the fact that they do have long range bombers. But their pilot skill is questionable to say the least. And they do not have adequate ground attack planes, like the Jaguar.
@franknbeans4761 Mig-21 Bison was able to score some good kills over superior jets during the 2008 RF. The small size (lower visual signature) and inherently small radar cross section coupled with modern avionics, radar, effective jammers, precision guided munitions and missiles (R-73, R-77) make Bison one of the best fighters in IAF after Su-30 and Mirage-2000. China has the numbers advantage but I know IAF is picking up fast and with the 5th gen fighter and a LCA, we can match them soon..

WTF AT BERKUT? You're obviously a dumbcunt. That thing was prototype, a technology demonstrator, it isnt even a fighter aircraft, it has extreemly poor maneuverability.
The Su 27, 37 and Mig 29, 33 & 35 are better aircraft than F16 & F15. That is why made the Raptor F22, because we had to keep up with the Russians. The F22 is amazing, but it needs to be pampered like a golden monkey, while the Russian jets can be let outside and serviced much less than the US counterparts.

They aren't making A-10's anymore. The F-35 is supposed to take over it's role when the A-10 eventually get retired, although I can't see the F-35 truly doing the A-10's job. I suspect that we will see a future generation of UAV's doing the job of the A-10.

The Su-47 is not a fighter jet, it was an aerodynamical test bench, and sure on hell of a beautiful aircraft, but never a fighter jet. Even if it's integration as a fighter as been envisaged.
First off, do you know any thing about aicraft? The SU-27!? That entered service in 1983! Try the new SU-37. And the mig 29, entered servic in 1986! Even the F-15 entered service in 1989! Now I'll grant you that the SU-47 first flew in 1997 but it never made it to production. Also, where is the Rafale? At least you did 1 thing right, you put the F-22 as number1. Next time do a little reasearch!
Funny though how the Mig-21F bis wasn't mentioned at all, it was after all designed to shoot down the SRcough cough. There is no record of a Finnish Mig-21F bis shooting down any spy plane, US or Soviet, but with Swedish radar at the same time it prevented most similar contraptions flying over our nordic airspace unnoticed. It was quite advanced for it's time.
As far as an actual fighter plane goes with REAL combat experience goes the F-14 is the best of the bunch out of this group even if it did not make the list. It has been proven in combat and fires a missile that none of these planes can even carry. Take note please that I said REAL combat experience. Few of the other planes here have ever fired a shot in anger. The Berkut is cool looking is cool looking but so what. there's only one of them.

As for Russian aircraft, I too would have to go with the Mig-29SM. It is a true multi-role fighter (still limited by its low payload), has powerful engines, it's very durable, quite maneuverable when close in, but the only things that limit it is it's very short range & small payload.

@franknbeans4761 they have Upgraded the Mig-29 with the payload and range issues. With force multipliers and refuelling options the range is not a concern. I am from India and we have inducted 2 squadrons of Mig-29s. The only issue i find with it is the fixed wing technology. Our scientists have invented some remarkable BVR weapon systems, ranging somewhere between 90-110 Kms. And our enemy is pretty close so we don’t need that bigger range. LOL

@mayankpar The upgrade to the Mig-29 in terms of range & payload only made minor differences. The Mig-29 SMT received the most upgrades in terms of fuel having about 6,100 liters of internal fuel & roughly 8-9,000 lbs of ordinance. That being said, it was only made to be a front-line fighter, so range wasn't taken too seriously. Russia also only has 20 tankers so aerial refueling probably isn't always an option. India has the best Mig-29 fleet, now that it is receiving the Mig-29K.

@franknbeans4761I was talking from the Indian prospective. you said it right that we have one of the best Mig-29s and they are doing a fine job as Interceptors. Any how the combat range is not more than 2000-2500 kms. And with the second largest fleet of "globe masters" I think we can very well manage that. As i mentioned in my last comment the need of the day is BVR and somehow it has taken out the real feel of aerial combat. its more like a simulated flight now..

@mayankpar Exactly, BVR missiles are becoming more important everyday. The key is to have them with great AWACS support otherwise the fighters would have a lot of difficulty finding & engaging enemy aircraft. It's a good thing India is becoming much more active in Red Flag operations. The Indian Air Force has made a lot of great leaps not only in aircraft quality but also pilot quality in the last 10-15 years.

@franknbeans4761 My friend, I still long for a classic "dog fight” . Where, men and machine are tested to their limits. If BVR is the key we can use UMA. And yes India was part of some of the key red flags. And the aviators have come out with some flying colours. The Modernization process is on and I look forward for a complete air dominance by the IAF in the region... USAF is classic and will always be that, but i guess the chaps are losing the edge over technology.

@mayankpar Actually, the IAF Big-21 Bison was actually quite stealthy in Alaskan Red Flag missions in 2008 due to it's low RCS & it's jamming pods. It was hard to detect until it was actually close in.
The only regional power that I could see challenging India would be China, but only due to it's superior numbers & the fact that they do have long range bombers. But their pilot skill is questionable to say the least. And they do not have adequate ground attack planes, like the Jaguar.

The small size (lower visual signature) and inherently small radar cross section coupled with modern avionics, radar, effective jammers, precision guided munitions and missiles (R-73, R-77) make Bison one of the best fighters in IAF after Su-30 and Mirage-2000. China has the numbers advantage but I know IAF is picking up fast and with the 5th gen fighter and a LCA, we can match them soon..

The Su 27, 37 and Mig 29, 33 & 35 are better aircraft than F16 & F15. That is why made the Raptor F22, because we had to keep up with the Russians. The F22 is amazing, but it needs to be pampered like a golden monkey, while the Russian jets can be let outside and serviced much less than the US counterparts.

Calling the F-22 a crappy figher is like calling a Bentley Mulsanne a crappy car.
Unlike you I know people who have flown the F-22 (as well as the F-15 and F-16) and they say the F-22 is by far the best figher ever made.

Then they built 150 plus or so of them and found out that they could not keep the MAJORITY of those 150 plus OPERATIONAL at the sametime. They found out that it was the HARDEST plane to keep OPERATION in their history of fighter planes. Thus the states CANCELED building more and guess what? Now the states are not building more and are trying to sell them.Guess what? There is not one order.

Couple years ago at Red Flag the only two top dogs out of the WORLD were the F-15 & F-22 PERIOD.
Then they pitted 2 F-22's against 8 F-15's(never been shot down in A2A combat in history) and the fight was over in 35seconds.

@puretide1983 I wouldn't call the F-22 a failure. There is just no air to air challenge dire enough for us to need it currently.
They aren't making A-10's anymore. The F-35 is supposed to take over it's role when the A-10 eventually get retired, although I can't see the F-35 truly doing the A-10's job. I suspect that we will see a future generation of UAV's doing the job of the A-10.

F35 Dedicated CAS cant see it .It seem to be plagued with disappointment.
UCAVS need to find a way to kill a few young kids with 50 year old Ak 47 a lot cheeper than launching hellfire missiles at them .A10 will look after the allies until 2020 when the contract expires with Fairchild republic their is already talks to extend this .I would not be surprised if the CAS F35 gets ditched like the CAS F16 experiment .Their just not dedicated

My mistake 187 raptors are on the books 100 are currently operational .The USA needs heaps more .
only half of these can be in the air at any one time because of the time it takes to maintain it .because of the few number and the current air frames will only last half their 20 year lifespan

lol, missing jet, mig35, gripen and rafale, and may be F35/T50 but not operational, Fact, since december 2009, rafale play equal game with f22 and rafale won vs eurofighter 7-1 (4-0 4v4, 3-1 2v4), and rafale won vs eurofighter 8-1 at solenzara en 2007. Rafale won vs f16 6-2 at luke air-base in 2008. su30/ sU35 is near equal to an ef2000, rafale won easy also vs f18. SU47 is a prototyp not operational,

The Su-47 is not a fighter jet, it was an aerodynamical test bench, and sure on hell of a beautiful aircraft, but never a fighter jet. Even if it's integration as a fighter as been envisaged.

First off, do you know any thing about aicraft? The SU-27!? That entered service in 1983! Try the new SU-37. And the mig 29, entered servic in 1986! Even the F-15 entered service in 1989! Now I'll grant you that the SU-47 first flew in 1997 but it never made it to production. Also, where is the Rafale? At least you did 1 thing right, you put the F-22 as number1. Next time do a little reasearch!

Funny though how the Mig-21F bis wasn't mentioned at all, it was after all designed to shoot down the SRcough cough. There is no record of a Finnish Mig-21F bis shooting down any spy plane, US or Soviet, but with Swedish radar at the same time it prevented most similar contraptions flying over our nordic airspace unnoticed. It was quite advanced for it's time.

As far as an actual fighter plane goes with REAL combat experience goes the F-14 is the best of the bunch out of this group even if it did not make the list. It has been proven in combat and fires a missile that none of these planes can even carry. Take note please that I said REAL combat experience. Few of the other planes here have ever fired a shot in anger. The Berkut is cool looking is cool looking but so what. there's only one of them.
