  • That's interesting. I never thought about their sexual needs, but of course that would be significant, especially in animals that live such long lives. I knew these birds in the wild when I lived in South America -- well, I saw them, observed them, appreciated them. I don't know many people with parrots in their lives in a domestic situation.

  • Very interesting! Especially the egg laying behaviours portion! Is spaying/neutering an option for parrots as it is for cats & dogs? I had never thought about that before!

  • Thank you, Julie! Spaying/neutering is performed on parrots only in the most extreme circumstances, as it is quite risky to place such a tiny creature under a general anesthetic. So training and behavior modification is used to manage egg-laying instead. It's an interesting life, having a companion parrot!
