I am going to the University of Phoenix to be a social worker but I am trying to decide whether to be a Medical Social Worker or a Victim's Advocate. I am leaning towards being a victim's advocate but I hate how in some states it is a volunteer job. Plus I hate how social workers get paid pretty low. Thank you for posting this.
I have been looking for something informational on Social work for a couple of weeks now. This video not only gave me the information that I wanted but he gave me goose bumps as well. I would like to know how to get a hold of the maker so that I can use this video in a class assignment. I would like to use the whole thing.
I am going to college next fall to start my degree with a social work diploma. I hope to get my masters one day! Something that helped me make up my mind was a year ago when I was trying to access government funding because I was 17 and going to school and could not receive hours at work, the social worker I had was awful, she was rude, unreliable, and didn't seem like she cared. There can't be people like her fulfilling this job market! I am going to show her how its done!
@dancinginstardust awesome honey!! I hope to start school in july to get bachelor of science degree for human services. I love helping people, especially families and children!
i m a social worker too, and i love my job, but not my salary. I go to work only because of my love to people, who need help and supporting, og not for money.
Though this clip is intended to arouse sympathy for SWs, it is, a scathing critique.
Whenever an individual, or a group, arrogates the rights and resposibilities of a community, they become overburdened and their lives become unmanageable.
It is rightfully communities which should be dealing with these problems. Communities have more resources, greater pools of wisdom and people who may (or may not) have problems will be assessed (not judged!) by their peers.
guys im currently a 2nd year law student but want to do social work so bad.its a fantastic career and i plan on transfering from law to social work. i just wanted to know what is the work load like and the pay?
Both the workload and pay totally depend on the area of social work you end up working in. Nobody goes into social work for the money. Generally, they say that if you're earning $40K, you're "really making it."
Combining a JD with an MSW is actually a really great career move, so if you enjoy law school at all, stay with it!
wow this is exactly what i want to do. i feel like this is what i was created do to. im 24 years old and i will be going back to school this month. i am so excited. this video really motivates me!
Yay! I have recently earned my MSW and now work as a hospital social worker. Its so nice to see positive comments about social workers. With the negative stereotypes that we can constantly hear it can be easy to get frustrated but this video has really hit on why I do what I do everyday. I'm glad to see more people are getting educated on what social work is and where social workers work. :)
