This is dull "minimal". I saw him at Coachella 01'(?) and it was definitley a step backward from all the cool vibe CREATIVE stuff he did w/ fuse and the early plus8 and definitive tracks.
actually ROB HOOD started the minimal scene. Probably haven't heard of him cuz hes Black, and black folks dont get any recognition in electronic music for the most part. If the guys from Detroit who started techno were white, they would be HUGE. I do like Richie but he is SOO overrated. People kiss his ass all the time.
probably you're right...but remember, this guy has more than 20 years of career in his back, Detroit parties were gone even before his half of trajectory and the greater success after Plastikman came also in NY and Europe. Even himself and those who started there with him recognize they never felt very welcome in Detroit parties. I think he started something already existent and turned it into something kinda different, and i love it :-)

@Christiantodd1 He's one of thousands. The man/system has always chosen a handful of acceptable Negroes so that he can say what you're saying.
The system is predicated on the average person's laziness. Most will never do the research to really get to the bottom of the issue. EDM is a racist as anything else humans have anything to do with. A very sneaky and passive racism that creates the conditions for people to say what you did. Ask some of your black friends how they feel. (if you have any)
I can't believe looking at other DEMF performances how many people rip into like jeff mills and claude young on the comment board but everyones in love with this guy, I fucking hate him he's so incredibly boring, 4 to the floor everytime and not fast or slow just right down the middle, it makes me sick how much love this guy gets compared to his afro-american contemporaries that run circles around him, i.e. claude young, jeff mills, carl craig, juan atkins, scan 7, octave one.
thats just rude. richie is minimal and kind of the founder of the style. also somewhat of a genius, go listen to him talk. and if you dont like it, dont listen to it.
Treat him for what he is, the gateway for many into techno. Frankly, I will agree that he is highly overrated, but I still can enjoy what he does on an on night, but there are far better contemporary djs even among those spinning minimal techno and tech house.
this mixer he is useing looks like a&h 92,but look closer,i dont realy think its normal 92,got some midi on the left side!!!any ideas what mixer is this???
Man it must be annoying to have people so close to you while you're mixing...plus you risk that someone fucks with your wires etc . Why don't they do a stage so that more people can see the DJ?
dude why do you answer stuff like that? I'm just saying, wouldn't it be a good idea if have the stage was a bit higher so that people can see him in the back. If you think Ritchie will talk about mixing technique with you while he's playing at DEMF, I'm afraid you are the moron here.
An intelligent answer from you would have been ''the whole point of the beatport tent partys at DEMF is to have the artist close to the floor, creates a more intimate vibe'' but you chose to fail instead. peace
the whole point of DJing is NOT beatmatching, it is MIXING. you HAVE to beatmatch with turntables because there's no other way, but the ultimate point is MIXING. no one except DJ's give a fuck about the technique involved, they just want to hear mixing..and mixing software that auto-syncs the tracks open up a WHOLE LOT MORE doors for mixing than in previous years when all DJs had to use were turntables
@DougYfunnie excuse me but what is the point of being a dj if you beat sync everything then basically anyone can do it, you have it so so wrong in this comment no talent involved there. you beat match then you mix simple as if you cant do that then you aint no dj, and ill say turntables are the best way for a dj no computer crap needed if you can really dj open your eyes.
@DougYfunnie You're missing the point. Anyone who just blindly accepts laptop Dj.'s are just partiers. Some of us are students of the culture who are impressed by creativity. Limitations force Dj.'s to truely innovate. No matter who they are, or how many tracks they can sync up, they will never get the respect of the true heads. For every door that technology opens, there is a creative/artistic door that closes. Convenience is what got us to where we are now (fucked). Folks need to wake up!
Nah the whole point isn t just beatmatching m8! beatmatching was the fundamenthal step, not so much any more because you can get programs and softwarwe to do it for you, the point of dj'ing for me is to have a unique and your own style!! =]
@Toxiccheese1990 Beat Matching separates the tuely dedicated from the convenience based enthusiasts. What type of person wants to take a short cut when it comes to art? How can you fully develop a style when the machine is doing one of the most technically difficult aspects for you?
richie i am not sure is the best but he's certainly a great dj and master of messing with peoples heads. he's the only person in the world that has managed to create hype around techno. for example when's the last time you said "richie did that and OMG i couldn't believe he brought a talking robot with him and ricardo was all messed up.." or something like that. just me talking about him and us fighting about him gives him publicity. he wins no matter what. which is why hawtin is brilliant.
sorry to burst your buble mielony89 but Richie's been using Serato for years. The white "vinyls" are time code controllers and you can see him access him Macbook Pro.
i don't care what medium he's using, the end product is amazing. digital djing is always a sensitive issue, to the people that are scared to move into the future. by no means what richie's is doing now any easier than mixing on 2 decks and a mixer. if anything its more difficult because he has so many things going on at once. i recommend those still antiquated in the stone age of vinyl records to watch his video on the traktor scratch website. you can then understand what he's trying to do.
