  • You know...if the original six cast members were still on the show today, I think I could live with that. Greevey and Logan were a terrific team and I personally prefer Stone over McCoy.

  • Man... This takes me back. The first five seasons were the best, bar none. I haven't watched it for about 3 years, and am tonight for the first time since. Don't recognize anyone cept S Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston and Jesse Martin. Hasn't been the same either, since Jerry Orbach died. RIP.

  • Ben Stone is the man

  • here here

  • McCoy is better

  • Well...he does make a better DA than that sneaky bastard Arthur Branch

  • The Law and Order franchise is the best. With opening themes like this, it captures New York City like nothing else on TV

  • law and order and csi are the best!

  • I think the best L&O cast was either: Logan, Greevey, Florek, Stone and Kincaid or Logan, Briscoe, Stone, and Kincaid, but dont get me wrong i still like mccoy

  • Hey, does anybody know who wrote the opening theme song?

  • Mike Post, the song is called the thin Blue Line. Mike Post also wrote the theme to The A-Team.

  • never watched the show before, but I always loved the theme

  • The Song is Beautiful! I dont watch LaO but everytime when I hear it mind me of the crime and stupid things in NYC

  • This music is the best thing from the show

  • I like how everyone from Oz ends up on newer episodes of Law & Order when the Oz was done.

  • Now, THAT'S a long opening, don't ya think? ;)

Which seasons was Jill Hennessy in? Anyone knows?

  • Seasons 4, 5, and 6

  • Yep, this long version opening was used from Seasons 1-3...the current version has been used since season 4...

  • You're telling me.

  • You're telling me.

  • i lik e the music

  • WOAH Dan florek looks young

  • Well yeah, 'cause he was on this series from 1990-1993...he was only in his 40's that time...when he started SVU in 1999, he was already in his 50's that time already....and yes, he looks pretty interesting with that lil' hair of his...now, he's partially bald...

  • I vaguely remember that the pilot episode had a different DA (not Steven Hill) and the opening was slightly different. I would love to see that posted.

  • Yes, you're right, because the episodes for the 1st season were out of order, so the actual "pilot" is for episode 6 instead of episode 1....

  • I was too young to ever remember a Law and Order without McCoy and TNT rarely ever plays these really old school episodes, so this was cool to watch.

  • What happened to Greevy's killer Magadan Jr.? Wasn't he acquitted?

  • No, Stone managed to get him convicted after Logan forced a confession out of the killer at gun point.

  • Hiring Steven Hill for that show was one of the best moves they ever made.

  • I think George Dzundza would've been very successful on that show if he chose to stay. He looked like he was made for the part and he had a good street wise attitude.

  • McCoy is the best as was Lennie!

  • I definitely agree 100% as you...it's very sad Jerry Orbach (Lennie) passed away...RIP for him, and although Jack McCoy moves to the District Attorney instead of EADA, he did make a guest appearance on SVU...oh shit, he got into a tense conversation with the ADA Casey Novak...it was funny!!! LOL....

  • And Ceretta himself didn't last too long.

  • BEST THEME EVER!

  • So nice to hear the opening theme in its entirety, because it's got to be one of the best ones out there. :)

  • What I've never been able to understand is at the end of the theme music. Is that an actual siren or a viola being bowed, or one merging into the other?

  • it's a synth viola, the high pitch near the climax is too melodic to be an actual siren.

  • Awesome guitar riff!

  • The guitar is sampled. A real guitar wasn't used until season 2 or 3. Still, Mike Post did a good job of making it sound halfway realistic, and it fits in with the rest of the theme.

  • Mike, Max, and Lennie were the best detectives on this show. Dan Florek played the best captain on this or CI(well i think). And Michael Moriarty played a better D.A than sam waterstone. Claire Kincaid was a good assistant too.

  • I have never seen the first season nor have I ever seen Michael Moriarty so im gon buy it and see for myself I still like Jack McCoy tho, you know hes about to be the new D.A.

  • I just found that Moriarty brought out a more human emotion as the prosecutor. Sam waterstone seems like a robot half the time.

  • TNT finally aired a season 2 episode now I can honestly say that I do like Moriarty he was very interesting as a A.D.A. I see what you mean but I still like Jack

  • I seen Moriarty(Only once.. in the episode "Point of view") but I prefer Waterstone, he may act like a robot but deep down his chracther has emotions. I remenber when the ADA told him once that he wasnt made of steel.

  • sad when max gets shot in that apartment in season 2. or was it mike? i always get the names confused. and now lenny's dead too. for real too. too bad, he was awesome.

  • It's nice to dream.. after watching S4 I realized that even if Stone was a nice chrachter, Jack Mccoy chrachter actually brought more strength to the show

  • I loved back when the theme was long like this. They've been using the shorter verison forever now.

  • yeah i kno wat u mean i luv the old version

  • I haven't heard this in about 10 years. I hate that commercials have made theme songs so short, if not non-existent (like on Heroes or Ugly Betty)

  • Chris Noth is mad gangsta.
