  • He sounds like one of those Heritage Foundation wonks. If Christianity was so important to our way of life, why didn't the rest of the Xtian countries, who had been that way for almost 1000 years, came up with something like we had before us?

  • A real christian has no interest in voting or government. Christians keep their minds focused on love of God, Christ, and the afterlife.

  • @TheForwardGaze :that is a lie of the devil.

God BLESSED mankind with land, animals, and other humans TO TAKE CARE OF FOR HIM. If I gave you a new car, would you just let it go OR TAKE CARE OF IT? As citizens of America, we need to know our history, our politicians, and what we believe in and then vote accordingly. To neglect these God-given rights, is to turn from God, which is what we have done as a nation. AMERICA NEEDS TO RETURN TO GODLY PRINCIPLES and then we will be blessed again.

  • @tomsinclairjr Ever heard of Billy Graham? He had a few things to say to evangelicals about government and politics.

  • this guy is a moron

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Yeah, he sounds just like this moron. "Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens." Oh wait that "moron" was George Washington.

  • @TheGrayman1234 this guy thinks we are a christian based country

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Well, define "Christian based" that is such a vague term. We were founded by mostly Christian men on mostly Christian values which is why we have the freedom to believe in whatever religion you wish. Sounds like he has hit the nail on the head.

  • @TheGrayman1234 being nice is not a chirstian value, christian just agree with it. and most the founders were not christian.

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Now i know you don't know what you are talking about. We are not talking about being nice. We are talking about religious freedom. Does Islam? In AFGHANISTAN Christians risk the death penalty. Was it 27 of the founding fathers that had ministry degrees? Didn't the Supreme Court in 1892 in Holy Trinity Church vs. The United States unanimously declared that the US was legally and organically a Christian nation. Funny thing about history, you can't change it.

  • @TheGrayman1234 just because you can talk about religions and not get killed doesn't mean we are a religion based one. Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Come on you can do better than googling something on Wikipedia. Try actually reading a book sometime.

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 See you are not staying on point. "Religious Freedom" has everything to do about talking "about religions and not get killed".

Article 11 - Treaty of Tripoli - The problem comes that it states the government was not founded on the Christian religion. It says nothing about the fact that country itself being known to be a Christian nation. This was done to insure Tripoli and Muslims that America was not the same as European Christianity which hated the Muslims.

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 There was obviously a lot of Xtain influence but these theo-tards act like it's all some sort of prophecy. while we also had slaves, killed & stole Indian lands, and treated women legally like children & slaves.

  • @FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7

YOU CLEARLY HAVE NOT DONE YOUR HOMEWORK. Read THE REAL BEN FRANKLIN; THE REAL GEORGE WASHINGTON and then come back here and tell me that. These 2 books, which I just finished, were in those men's OWN WORDS in letters they wrote, which you can find in the Library of Congress. YES, AMERICA WAS FOUNDED BY DIVINE PROVIDENCE and ON GODLY PRINCIPLES, UPHOLDING GOD AS THE OVERSEER OF OUR NATION. It was man who cut God out of things, fool. Man ruins everything.

  • @tomsinclairjr um, if there was a god, it would be obvious, we wouldn't need a government to begin with

  • @tomsinclairjr You rant, rave and lie like a typical religious nut. Europe was Xtain, including England for over a 1000 years before the US was formed, why didn't they figure that out if it was all about God? You are so dense that you don't even realize that every ruler & gov't tells the people God ordained them. Man ruins everything, including the religious nonsense that you spout?

  • NEVER VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS!!!!!

They worship greed, stupidity and sloth.

They hate all citizens except their masters (the super rich), whom they fear.

  • they must find it difficult... those who have taken authority as truth, rather than truth as the authority - g massey

  • David Barton personally owns in his library over 70,000 volumes that were printed before 1812. His quest began years ago while doing research at SMU's library and being directed to uncatalogued "old books" in their basement, when he realized that what was in the primary sources (early, unedited printings) where often very different from edited quotes and summaries of the founding fathers and others of the day. And religious expressions nearly all omitted.

  • @bab008 If that's the case then he has pushed it the other way. Barton's representation of the facts include omission, fabrication and quote mining (taking out of context) to an extent seen only in the most liberal interpretation of the founding of our country. I'm sure there exists in the ACLU somewhere his counterpart on the other side of the argument, but I couldn't name the bastard.

  • @sololamer

You're thinking of Robert Byrd of West Virginia.

  • i am pro life & this method will not secure real candidates in the office that are doing other moral things that are right for ALL. Freedom is for ALL or no one if you tell me that my Congressman was voted in by pro life supporters why he is not pro life now that tells me he only voted pro life till people voted him in the office Bible says by their fruits you shall know them and when christian see moral person that would serve all people as Jesus would then we will vote right , not 4noe cons

  • This guy isn't even a particularly good liar, as long as the audience is educated. He's counting on them being less knowledgeable than he is, if not uneducated. I saw another one of his videos where he's telling whopping lies about the history of lynching being KKK killing Republicans. In another he's crediting Christianity with everything from human decency to color television. He's a tool of the GOP.

  • christian merkins lol

    they be dumb as rocks

  • WrongChristians believe they were created by a loving God. atheist believe they came from rockswhos dumb as rocks now?

  • you of course

havnt you got a banjo to go dance to? or a man made book of magic and stolen stories to dribble over?

  • Grow up people the bible IS A religious book. just because Islam, Christianity and Judaism are the most popular in the world does not mean that their believes are the law for every person on earth.

  • Sorry the Bible is the living word of God.

Used by heretics and people who love the God of the Bible.

Heretics use it to destroy the Christian. People who love God (Jesus) use it to spread the Gospel (good news).

Jesus boiled it down to two commandments: Love the Lord God with all your heart mind and soul and love your neighbor as your self.

Thats not to hard.or is it??????

  • SO CORNY, THE BIBLE HAS BEEN USE BY PEOPLE WHO love god to spread the good news? learn history blind bat. from the beginning of time bible bilieves have been used; to denied freedom, to kill, to wipe people off the face of the planet.

  • Ok, lesson 1 more people have been killed by atheists than Christians

Thats just a fact; of coarse I wouldnt expect you to know history so we will move on, Lesson 2 did you not read what Jesus said in my statement youre replying to Please read it again read all the words Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself there you have it.Also the good news is you dont have to die in your sins Jesus paid the price on the cross. For more info please read the Book of John in the N.T.

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW "more people have been killed by atheists than Christians"

That's laughable and not even remotely true. Extraordinary claims require exraordinary proof so you're going to have to at least attempt to document that nonsense.

  • @MrMZaccone Ok Mao killed up to 70 million people in his life.

Rwanda it was estimated that at least 200,000 Tutsi were killed (Tutsis were Christians)

Stalin Approximately 20 million, including up to 14.5 million needlessly starved to death. At least one million executed for political "offences".

Idi Amin 100,000-500,000 (most sources say 300,000).

Pol Pot Cambodia One to three million (or between a quarter and a third of the country's population).

    Need I go on

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW Yes, by all means go on, you've left out the slaughter of Pagans under Christian Rome, the crusades, the inquisition, the slaughter of native peoples all over the world, you might as well throw in Hitler, he was a Catholic at least as much as Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were atheists ... response? Please handle points one at a time so we can have a rational civilized discussion, eh?

  • @MrMZaccone You wrongly associate the church of Rome with Christians

The same with the cursaders who on the way to the the said cursades would go through

Villages and kill as many jews as could be found.(they called them Christ Killers)

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW You wrongly associate dictators who opressed religion for political reasons with atheists.

  • @MrMZaccone I was replying to your asserting that Christians were killing people .that is wrong.

They used religion to control people.(that being Rome)

Besides even if you added all the damage done by so called Christians it is a small number compared to atheists dictators

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW Yes, I understand what you were doing but your mistake was in assuming that dictators like Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were actually atheists. If that's the case then why did Stalin reinstate religion when it suited him, why did Pol Pot declare himself a god and where is the proof in Mao's writings of an atheistic viewpoint. What these men did was oppress religion for political purposes. They were not atheists in any true sense.

  • @MrMZaccone Besides 99% of dictators were and are atheists they them selfs are god.

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW Anyone who sets themselves up as a god is not an atheist.

  • @MrMZaccone The church of Rome was killing true Christians thus the inquisition they went after those who read the Bible and apposed the Pope remmember during that time it was a sin punisable by death (usally buy torturing there victim then burning them alive)

Hitler was no Christian he was an evolutionist thus the survival of the fittest.

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW Survival of the fittest is not a moral or ethical judgement, it's just a fact with no moral implications whatsoever. This is assured by the fact that predicting was is "fit" is quite impossible. Why don't we try to agree on some definitions before we go any further, otherwise continuing this discussion with vastly different definitions of the terms we are arguing over will be pretty meaningless.

  • @OOPS4U2CNOW As an example, I have always considered catholics "christian" You on the other hand, obviously have a thoroughly mistaken notion of what constitutes an "atheist". Why don't we start there.

  • @borinquen222

Learn history? sounds like the pot caloling the Kettle black.

  • And bc the bible mentions homosexuality that does not make it evil. The bible is a religious book like the books from hinduism, islam, budaism and judaism so stop talking about the bible like the ultimate law for the planet earth.

  • brealz; let me tell you, in the begining of times it was ok to have sex with your daugther, mother, sister, cousins and to have as many women you could, including servant females and you can find examples of that behavior in the bible. and it was "OK" in order to populate the world. but as the numbers were growing that practice wasnt necessary any more. so the so called religious leders came out with the "law" to stop men from doing what was accepted at the time.

  • Barton is a true historian

  • I have seen some of the letters that he quotes from (word for word copies of the originals) like the letters of John Adams and Madison and a lot of stuff he quotes is taken out of context. He either misquotes by "generalizing" what is said or he quote mines and only picks out bits and pieces of letters that support his claim...you should read chris rodda's book called Liars For Christ...she goes into much more detail on a lot of false claims and quotes issued by Barton.

  • Barton is no historian - he is more a motivational speaker.

  • i believe the constitution is a very important and great document to follow as a guide line in goverment. but when it comes to religion the document only represent a bias group, when it comes to equality it did not represented women or black people it only represented white men. wake up america "read" go back to our history books and stop been so close minded.

  • God gave man his own will to do whatever he wants but there comes consequences and as for homosexuals read your bible he's coming back soon to clean them all up and set them straight or cast them into hell. Gods working behind the scene brotherman. I suggest you buy a bible and read it thouroughly and you'll know how God works.

  • Stop the religious bigotry. A bigot is a person who is obstinately and irrationally, often intolerantly, devoted to his or her own religion, political party, organization, and beliefs.

  • your ignorant and lieing to yourself.

  • yep you fit the mode 100%

    your a bigot )B-()

  • women and blacks were forbiden from voting because of religious and political ideas. In the name of religion people keep getting kill or beaten to death, and stop from enjoying their freedom. But wait the real bullie is coming soon and he'll show every bible believer how you get rid of evil. God is coming soon. Beware.

  • Brealz. the only thing that maybe coming one day is what big religious organization have bn triying to bring back; Church and Goverment united as one. like it was in the past. church and king; with the church writing the law for the state. stop being so blind. what you see as the coming of jesus. to the control freaks in your church is complete control over the goverments of the world to impose their agenda on everyone.

  • Oh yeah people Jesus is coming and boy is he mad!

  • it dont matter how much progress we achive. the human races will never overcome the divisions that religious believe can couse in society. because we feel "God" need humans to protect his legacy, name, reputation. Vote because you want to better society not because you want to impose your religious ideas on others. if God hates homosexuals so much why dont he do something about it himself? i forgot, christians are God's soldier. they know God's agenda and they'll bring it to past.

  • I am not trying to deny anyone participation in politics. I am just pointing out that Barton is lying. Lying is not a religious belief. It is an increasingly Christian belief, as long as the "cause" is "godly". Barton can argue all he wants ... just avoid lying ... it's simple, really.

  • If David Barton gets his way ... lies would be spread in many other areas ... sex education (endangering teenagers), gays (denying right), making a fertilized egg a person (reproductive rights), and on and on. Look at his support for extremist congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave...that is Barton's future for America.

  • Arguing that a person should not participate in the political process (or is dangerous to it) because their reasons for their beliefs are religious, amounts to religious intolerance. If a man believes in social welfare because of Christian teachings on charity is he guilty as well?

There are opponents of abortion who are atheists.

What matters is the nature of the arguments you advance in defense of your position, not why you hold those positions in the first place..

  • America is not a theocracy, the elements of religion are not to be introduced into that formal structure (this is the true meaning of the Separation of Church and State) but Theism is the philosophical inspiration and rational basis for that structure, and for American Democracy in general.

  • "the elements of religion" ???? not to be introduced into that formal structure.... Do you not understand that our laws are based on a biblical worldview???? The elements of religion have been introduced a long time ago. NO people claiming any other "religion" could have ever afforded the level of free freedom you enjoy today. Christianity is at heart tolerance toward man. Seperation of Church and State is only ment to protect from the level of enganglement present w/in England at the time.

  • There is a difference between "laws based on a biblical world view" and introducing the elements of a religion into the formal structure of government. lol and why are you debating me? This page is full of comments from pure Secularists, which i am not.

It sounds like our differences may be purely semantic.

  • Thanks for clarifying that Califacience! We need more people like you explaining the true history of our government.

  • Great video!

  • i encourage everyone to go to the Smithsonian history museum in Washington. go see the founding fathers original writings. go see The bible congress published during the revolution, go read Washington's farewell address.. stop being foolish and blind and relying on what you were taught, and more importantly what you weren't taught in schools. they were in fact true Christians.

  • Congress never published these Bibles, and many of the founding fathers were Diests - very, VERY far removed from evangelical nuts like Barton.

  • You don't have to go to the Smithsonian. You can access George Washington's ENTIRE writings online. His Farewell address doesn't mention "Christianity," but "religion." GW only ONCE ever was recorded uttering the term "Jesus Christ," in an address not written in his hand but signed by him.

  • The founding fathers had the spirit of christ living in their hearts - God created America to be a place where the Gospel would flourish and then be sent out around the world - we are not a perfect country - but all of our blessings have come from God himself because of a covenant we made with him - God will give man over to believe lies if they refuse the truth - he will only reach out his hands for so long

  • The Founding Fathers were not "Christians" as you understand the term. Pick another term. The key FFs disbelieved in or otherwise didn't evidence belief in original sin, the trinity, incarnation, atonement, eternal damnation, infallibility of the Bible and set Founding policy accordingly.

  • This is exactly true. But the revisionists would rather accept this bunk by Barton. Meanwhile, Barton laughs all the way to the bank.

  • May God bless this wonderful man!

  • Reading the comments posted here shows just how much America has deteriorated in the last 40 years. If real Christians voted for real Christian values the athiests and gays would be screwed...

75% of American "Christians"... Aren't REALLY Christians so you all can just relax.

  • you are right about that.

  • You are insane! Keep your religion to yourself!

  • How to fuck up a country: Leftists/Socialists on one side and single salient issue Nimrods on the other. Yes your sacred cow is saved, asswipes, but in the meantime your heroes have indebted this country unimaginably and pretty much given the reins of power to neosocialists. All I can say is vote Libertarian and let the chips fall where they may.

  • Pretty interesting stuff . . .

    Polling is so bizzare.

  • "historian"

    Hahahahaha!

  • In America we are all free to choose any or no religion. That right also applies to evangelical fundamentalists.

That isn't good enough for them because they

sure seem to want to impose their beliefs on everyone.

Also over 80% of Americans are Christian so Barton's talk about Christian voting stats is nonsense.

  • The primary historical force which resulted in the Independence of the U.S. was the ENLIGHTENMENT. This was a response and refutation of the (Biblical) notion of DIVINE RIGHT of Kings (or any rulers).

Anyone claiming to be truly Christian must denounce this rebellion as having been disobedient of Biblical authority and therefore completely illegitimate. READ your Bibles, assholes.

  • Submit to authorities, except when they ask you to do something that contradicts God's Word......for instance, a couple of apostles were told to quit preaching Christ from their authorities, yet they asked the question, who shall we obey? Man or God.

  • And the only reason we have a public square to discuss all perspectives is because this country was founded by a majority of christian forefathers.

  • I agree. Barton's trying to pull a "fast one" on the American Public. The FFs violated Romans 13 by rebelling against authorities.

  • Reason and the right to life liberty and the persuit of happines are the only values that people should be voting on because they are the values this country was built on and they are the only values that are generally universal in this country.

  • Glad to be Canadian...Proud of having gay marriage and no sort of set legislation on abortion...I honestly feel really sorry for you Americans...I really do...even though I am aware that Canada is affected by the things that happen in USA, but...i don't know...I mean...the whackjobs we have are nowhere near as prominent as the nutjobs in USA...having to deal with them everyday...

  • Barton is a shill for Karl Rove..Barton is millionaire he has made off of tapes and presentations with his revisionist whacked out history...Historian??? a snake oil saleman

  • You have got it ... Barton will some day die laughing when he realizes his success from all the ignorant people buying his product.

  • Ignorant people?

"many of the founding fathers were Deists"

That sounds like ignorance to me, fashionable pseudo-intellectual ignorance, but still ignorance.

Out of the 56 signers of the declaration of Independence NONE was an admitted Deist, and TWO were closet Deists (One of whom always wished to think of himself as a "Christian") .

I see that since it is no longer fashionable to demonize the founders as intolerant shallow minded bigots many have turned to rewriting history

  • I see you can repeat Barton history well. Try reading the primary AUTHOR of the declaration of independence? Try reading everything he wrote instead of a few snippetrs from Barton. That is why he is on Mt. Rushmore. I would love to see Barton's pick for Rushmore.

  • I have actually heard David Barton very little

  • The declaration of independence, although primarily written by Jefferson (a definite Deist) is not the document defining America. The constitution and bill of rights did, and this document was crafted by a few enlightened minds, the primary, Madison, which was also not a christian. Your argument of ADMITTED deist seems kind of silly. Jefferson was attacked continuously in 1800 for being a deist, or worse an atheist. And you expected him to run around claiming, "I'm a deist, I'm a deist!"???

  • Well your observations about the assaults on Jefferson only further highlight the reality of the religious climate of the time.

The Constitution is a document about the formal structure of government: what the senate will consist of, how it will function. Why in the world would there be mention of God in the middle of that?

The Declaration however concerns the PHILOSOPHY the underlies that formal structure.

  • Fair enough. I can and do respect your observations. I think your view of the founders has sizable bit of christian purity, but your arguments are significantly more civil and enlightened than that of David Barton, and I am certain with less fanatical motives.

  • What exactly are you afraid David Barton would do if he had his way?

  • Im looking for the video of David talkig aboutGeorge washington saying in a letter that to be a american you have to believe in father, son,&holyspirit .

  • Im looking for the video that David talked about George Washington and some of the other founding fathers discussing what it really takes to be a true american I believe it was id letters to each. David said Washington said to be a true american you would have to believe in the Father, Son,and Holy Spirit.Which means there are a lot of people in this country who are not and can not ever be true americans. Especially arabs, unless they become saved by trusting Yeshua .

  • "lord Satan" rules nothing Matthew! The one true Jehova God holds the universe in his hands! One day satan's time of hurting this world will be over....

  • I wonder if it's beginning to dawn on the evangelicals that they were duped - galvanized by a single issue merely to acquire power.

  • @onemanband1963 What is the single issue? Perhaps there is a vote through a set a core principles that translate to a whole range of issues?

  • I THINK MR.BARTON IS INSANE

  • I seen him, and he is right on.

  • ignizshu, he's not insane, you just lack knowledge to comprehend the truthful language that he speeks.. It's ok, this can be treated, read books.

  • I have a lot of knowledge on the subject, THE BUSH ADD. MADE FOOLS OUT OF YOU VALUE VOTERS I ALSO READ A LOT OF THE BIBLE AND FOUND IT TO BE FACT,FANTACY AND A COPIOUS AMOUNT OF HYPERBOLE BUT WHAT'S PARMOUNT IS IT HAS NO CONSISTENCY WITH AN INTELLECTUAL BEING. THINK ABOUT IT IF YOU CAN THINK OBJECTIVLY FOR A SHORT WHILE, NOAH'S ARK THE STORY OF ADAM AND EVE IS MORE THAN OBVIOUS A MAN MADE STORY AND NOT CONSISTENT WITH AN IQ THAT APPROACH'S EVEN TRIPLE DIGITS..

  • Bogus.

  • Barton is quoted as saying that Alexis de Tocqueville said that America is great because it accepts Jesus as its guiding force. This is ironic because in reading the Constitution, I found a few amendments that are in stark conflict with so-called Judeo-Christian ethics. I read Tocqueville's DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA and nowhere does he make this comment. But he did state that he never met an American who supported the merger of church and state, and that includes pastors.

  • We need to be greatful that so called " evangelicals" do not vote as much,,too many of them are too busy at the all you can eat buffet." Praise baby Jebus and lets go eat"
