@blazin86ny Mariah was NOT the first to experiment with Pop and Hip Hop. Madonna did it long before with her Erotica album and her Bedtime Stories (techno, dance, and hip hop) album. Groups such as TLC and En Vogue did it long before Mariah too.

@MadonnaColo It's not about who did it first, but who did it right. Hell Mariah rapped on her 1990 debut on the song 'Prisoner' but it wasn't too good. Whitney experimented early too. But Mariah was the first major pop act to combine both genres effectively. The late Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes of TLC even attributes Mariah with helping fusing the 2 genres and opening people's eyes to Hip-Hop. It's the same way Madonna didn't invent a dance/techno mix. She just did it in a way that was more mainstream

No one sells albums now (especially Mariah) and she can't even fill a small 4,000 seat theater in the US. You would think if Mariah were TRULY a big album seller, she'd have no problem filling stadiums around the world like Madonna.

Madonna's music, lyrics and performances are too sophisticated for mainstream media. Especially her artistic ability. She would never stoop so low, to become entirely mainstream, for the sake of popularity, fame, acceptance. She's too strong and brave. She's paid the price for being this way, but she would rather be herself, and put up with other people's shit.

I remember seeing this performance on TV. It was randomly put after 12 Midnight on my local ABC affiliate and I had no clue what I was watching but I LOVED it and to this day I see love the Bedtime Stories Album. I hate to admit it but I think I grew goatee because of the performance.

Love her , but I still don't understand why she choose a Junior Vasquez Remix for this performance... I thought the original choice would have been a better choice for the British and European audience. Anyway, her Versace dress and the Donatella-ish hairdo were sensational. If only she would have taken time to rehearse the song. I kinda feel awful hearing her so out of tune. Sorry Madge!

It's so funny because i've been a MAdonna fan my whole life and started being a fan of bjork since Début and what i liked about Bjork was that she wasn't commercial at all...in the beginning....She was a real artist then she started believing in her own bullshit and made mediocre album one after the other and releasing so many box set, re releasing stuff and multiple dvd's showing how much she was in it for the money and denying it. Madonna never denied being a pop product.
