06 was Fed's best year for sure, no sign of weakness, pouncing relentlessly with his forehand and backhand from corner to corner, that three finals on clay he lost to Nadal were really close (maybe except FO final), but Nadal already had a reputaton of a real monster of clay
@andrewblastoff Something I noticed from Federer 2006: he's hitting the ball much deeper than he is now, even from defensive position. He's still an awesome shotmaker but he seems much more vulnerable on both sides.
roger is certainly having a few ups and downs this year, but I think with his early loses this season, player´s probably don´t feel intimidated by him anymore..
I don´t know for sure, but maybe they feel he´s not unbeatable, federer was not to focused agains´t simon in canada and made a few mistakes, simon played a solid match and won..
that "not too focused" thing is what i am concerned about. i'm sure we can all agree that wimbledon 08 was far from the fed we have grown accustomed to. regardless of the rest of the field, i feel that something has changed about fed.
well, one thing is for sure, the plating field is not going to get any easier for roger, in fact it´s goign to get rough for roger, with talented guys like novak, murray, gulbis and a few other´s coming up..
I suppose that's possible. maybe players are able to get the ball up and away more on the backhand, but i haven't heard any of the players talking about dramatic changes in surface performance, and they are usually very sensitive and critical of abrupt changes in playing conditions.
yea Gasquet has a slightly better backhand but Federer has more variety and has a much better forehand

roger´s talent is sick..

so what's changed? is something wrong with fed, or has the rest of the field simply adapted and evolved?

so the reason why guys like gilles simon beat federer is because they are no longer intimidated by him anymore?

well, to be honest, i think the 05-06 fed would have wiped his ass with them in one clean movement.

@03hz94 not Safin :) i would say Nalbandian too but he's too unstable

He has a game which irritates federer like murray and nadal. Defensive- get everything back.
