I consider Wind Waker to be one of the greatest technical achievements in gaming. It was developed before the GameCube was even released, yet it still managed to max out the system's capabilities. I believe that at the time, Wind Waker was the most advanced game created. The cel-shading was unlike anything else out at that time, with "realistic" effects like heat blurring and cloth physics, all running alongside a lighting system that emphasizes the 3D nature of the game.

I wasn't a fan of the art style when this game first came out but seeing it now I feel it has aged better than most "realistic looking" games from around the same time. Kudos to you Nintendo, for trying something different. (although I can't say I like the art style of Skyward Sword, It looks like it was colored with pastels.)

Literally, which was a flood, which killed all citizens of Hyrule who were unable to get to the top of the tallest mountains.

Actually, it's the future where Link did stop Gannondorf in OoT, but since (spoiler) Zelda sent him back in time, it made sure that that Link could never be reincarnated since he no longer existed in that time line.

But yes, you're right about the storyline being dark (for a Zelda game), and in my opinion, this is the best Zelda.

It's true that there is no Link on the future after Ganondorf is sealed, but normally, Links appear when Hyrule is at crisis. Zelda is OK, since it's a monarchy, and all girls are Zeldas, but Link and Ganon are a different story.

@jopel100 I said reincarnated, not from the same family, if his spirit doesn't exist then there can't be a hero of time, it's all down to fate rather than anything else. It even says in the beginning of WW that no hero of time appeared again, hence the "Timeline split".

Oh, and I'm guessing the name 'Link' is just for continuity sake, and Gannon's spirit is immortal due to the triforce of power.

But I think I expressed my thoughts wrong.

I think that there is a 'Hero of Time' Soul created by the Gods, but it doesn't need necessarily to be THE Link's Soul from OoT. Even though Link went to the past, there were a spirit from the Hero of Time in future Hyrule, that "reborned" on the WW Link.

But who knows... Maybe Miyamoto simply didn't thought about these stuff... '-_-

About no Hero of Time appearing bfr WW, well... it reborned as WW Link.

@doggyfizzle719 "lol", I AM serious, and you shouldn't judge that I haven't played TP or MM. In fact, I own the GAMECUBE version of Twilight Princess, and a golden cartridge of Majora's Mask. And while Majora's plot was certainly depressing, it wasn't the apocalypse Wind Waker had that already happened, it was a coming apocalypse you could prevent by blowing into a blue instrument each time. Twilight Princess is more of a literal dark, no more depressing than OoT or Zelda II.

No one remembers Hyrule, those who survived the flood were those who lived on the tops of mountains or were lucky enough to scramble to a high location quick enough. That's HARSH. It happened to a lot of people, not just a town like in MM, or a cursed boy, like in MM, it was a whole entire planet affected by it. Explain why a single man's sorrow would be more "dark" than a whole planet's loss.

I like both this game and Majora's Mask, and in the end, Majora's Mask is really hard to take seriously because it controls so badly, looks so crappy (admit it, it's aged horribly), and has a frustrating mechanic that hasn't seen many smiles. Wind Waker? Sailing. FUCKING SAILING IS BORING AS SHIT! And I won't change my opinion on it. Wind Waker is good. Majora's Mask has aged, is still alright, and Ocarina of Time is an overhyped boredom tool.

I agree MM has aged in the aspects of controls and graphics and WW is better in those categories. Especially graphics, I believe that its the best looking Zelda game..although some parts of TP can rival it. But beating WW wasn't as satisfying for me as MM. Most likely it has to do with the overall story, which I think is MM's strong point. OOT is still a fun game but you're right its hyped.
