Indeed, expanding hot gas from a circular form will always form a ring. Similar to blowing smoke circles by a smoker.

it's just like when people make smoke rings when they smoke...this is a ring made by the turbulence from the missile when it left the tube, but instead of smoke being caught in the turbulence you see a bit a flame, very common, just not seen

When you blow things out of a pipe the pressure can create rings, can be done with smoke, air underwater... lots of things, including fire coming out of a tube..
