Well if an experienced Newcastle fans comments mean anything, gooners and yids are always gonna have it at each other, same as us and sunderland, yids were a tough nut to crack at home but never made any attempts at Newcastle, Gooners came firm handed and were up for it as soon as they got off the train, our cockney NME told us who denton was, and told us his rep. So no malice from me to any gooners! Top boys get remembered for the right reasons!
@topgeezer111 There were lots of black lads in firms in the 80s West ham ,Arsenal, tottenham, birmingham, Wolves ,Man city, Oxford, Qpr, Luton and many more you probably got alot of your info about NF/BM from the media
From someone who knew fighting, football agg,and all that goes with it , let me tell you all, Denton was as game as they come.Whatever the odds or whatever race our opponents were,we never flinched , and never lost.Talk all you like about Him ,but if you know the apple, you know the apple.
@topgeezer111 because how anyone of colour or ethnic mix can be proud amongst ignorance & un-educated boy's is beyond me... We dressed better, made more money & had more respect on the streets as individuals than the other firms without the hype.
@topgeezer111 -Come on the kid asked a respectful Q? I met Daint in my uncles pub, in Highbury! I was 5/6 yrs old, and Arsenal, as you rightly point out, were an Irish team! Like the Fuckwit I was I walked straight up to him, pointed, and asked what a 'black geezer' was doing there!? "Don't worry about me son, I'm the resident monkey!" The gentleman won me over there and then. He was built like a brick outhouse, and showed no fear, he had fear, but lead from the front!

@topgeezer111 WHam and Arsenal were two clubs were the racism did not creep into the terraces as much as it did at chelsea, tottenham etc. Mainly due to D for us and cass pennant at wham during those times.
Chelsea were also a white firm but are not now.Times change and strong people like Denton overcame. I met him once ,not as a Cardiff Man, but on one of my ' away days' watching Chelsea v the Yids in 82. Met on the tube and after a bit of banter shared a bench together and told some stories. Dainton (also known as "The Bear") accompanied Pet Shop Boys on their tours from 1989 to 2000. He can be seen in the videos for Pet Shop Boys' singles, "Jealousy", "So hard" and "Was it worth it?" as well as in the Somewhere concert film. We know that he was a familiar and friendly face to many PSB fans who encountered him over the years and that they will share in our grief and sorrow. Those who met him will never forget him.
Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant are "devastated" by this tragic news. They had known Dainton for almost 20 years, during which time he had worked for Pet Shop Boys as security and later as personal assistant. He was also a close friend.
"Dainton was a warm, kind, loveable friend, a huge Arsenal fan and a larger-than-life character, famous in North London and beyond. We are devastated by his sudden and tragic death and our thoughts and condolences are with his wife, Mandy, and their family."
Dainton Connell was killed in a car accident the past 5 October in Moscow in the early hours of the morning. He was in Moscow accompanying Chris Lowe who was planning to DJ at a friend's nightclub there tonight. The friend driving him lost control of the car. There was no one else in the car.
Friends of Mr Connell have arranged a benefit concert, featuring Madness and the Pet Shop Boys, to raise money for Mr Connell's family. It will be held at Heaven nightclub on May 2.
Call 020 7821 8112. Tickets are £25 for girls, £50 for boys.

I met Denton at a midweek FA Cup replay at Southampton late 70's...and I witnessed first hand just how strong a man he was....and judging by this tribute he was also a man much loved..and of course a true Gooner...RIP Denton..."We're on our way...we're on our way, we're going to Moscow to see the bear....how we get there I don't know...how we get there I don't care...all I know is that we're on our way !!!
