oh a brave english captain was raving that day , he said give me one hour and ill blow you away , but a big mauser bullet got stuck in his groin and he died of lead posioning in ERIN GO BRAGH , great words.
this is a great version and the hell with the wolf tones, men like fee mc gorman sang these songs because they were republican not the the wolfe tones who would rather sing songs about the bog warriors of county mayo lol or biddy mulligans from county galway lol .
I'll rather listen to Fee or Declan Hunt (My favorite), but the Tones are still out and about singing the songs. So lets give'em some credit. The biddy mulligans kept them somewhat mainstream, and lent credibility to their line about how their singing of Rebel songs is just a recount of Irish history. The bards job is to tell the story, they're still doing it to a wider audience.
no probs. Just wanted to stick a few of these songs on... These guys very rarely get credited and yet these are the singers most people have heard from rebel records of the 70's and 80's.
Yes it is. 1. Down by the Liffey Side 2. God Save Ireland for the Empire 3. General Munro 4. Tribute to Barnes and M'Cormack 5. Castle of Drumboe 6. Erin go Bragh 7. Show Me the Man 8. O'Donovan Rossa 9. Lament for Sean South 10. Gra Mo Croidhe 11. Kevin Barry 12. Man from the Daily Mail
There is a compilation out there called 40 best rebel songs with this song credited to Eugene. Other songs credited to Eugene are also sung by Fee McGorman. Some songs by "Mark's Men" (Declan Hunt) are also sung by Fee. Some songs credited to Mark's Men are clearly Ray M. Never believe compilations, it was probably a 16 year old intern that put the track list together.
Yes, have to agree with you there. There are always errors in these albums. Thanks for mailing me last week, I only replied tonight. Just listening to the songs again it's bloody obvious Fee is the singer of most of them. The Wolfhound one Ireland United, is stated as 'Liam McGarry' which is not part of that compilition 40 Best Rebel Songs.
Mile beachuis, I had this on a tape when I was younger.. It still makes the hairs stand up on the nape of my neck..
