  • One of my favorite childhood sad moments.

  • God bless Paul and Jim may you live on through our memories.

  • I remember that song from when I was sixteen. Now I'm 52... I still think it is beautiful. Thanks Paul !

  • I like how Paul Williams puts feeling in his song, like he almost cries when he is singing this song. I do that a lot when I sing in our Church choir.

  • RIP Jim Henson...

  • For those who don't know, Paul wrote Rainbow Connection (among his awesome other songs).

  • I love Paul's writing and singing as well as his Brother Mentor Williams but i always was a fan of his and the Muppet's well who can't love them as well

  • If I could be a jerk for a moment, the vast majority of viewers will know this is ON The Muppet Show. It would be unusual if Paul Williams was singing with the Muppets from The Muppet Show and it wasn't ON The Muppet Show.

  • When I was younger, I use to think Paul was corny. Now..I think he's great and I like his music.

  • That was beautiful.

This is like the 30th time I've watched it but still.

  • Overe thirty years and he can still makie me cry.

  • I'd like to thank Dexter's Laboratory. Just sayin'.

  • @archstanton33 You know what's funny? Paul Williams can't play the piano. He teaches piano in Dexter's Lab, and in the muppet movie he played a piano player at a bar. But he can't play :3

  • @LihAniaih Yes he can play piano.

  • @MR94RB1 Well I don't know about right now, but I know at the time when the Muppet Movie and that episode of Dexter's Lab were made he couldn't play. That was the joke--that's why you don't actually see his fingers moving on the keyboard in his shots in the movie. Also, on the bonus features for this episode, it says he was given one of the Muppet caricatures they made of him. He put it on his piano, which it says again he could not play.

  • im currently watching the phantom of the paradise...and THIS guy is the badguy.... XD wow, thats a shocker!!!

  • Paul Williams came into the thrift store where I work at a few months ago, I knew I'd seen him before but at the time I couldn't place him, we had a talk about Elton John,I felt at the time that he was on t.v but it just wasn't registering until he left, he really hasn't changed that much!

  • even though he is not very good looking, its not hard for a girl to fall in love with Paul Williams.

  • 7 people are incredibly jealous of... um... people with... arms...

Seriously, I can't think of any good reason for this to be thumbed down.

  • @CharonTheSabercat how about they have no old familer fealings to let show.

  • I Can never find this song but I watch this episode on my Muppet dvd lol for the song lol and the comedy

  • anyone knows the CHORDS of this song?

  • this is one of the few things in life that makes me emotional whenever i listen to it

  • I've always liked how Paul pats Rowlf at the end. It's very touching. I love the Muppets.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid! Every song on the "Little Bit of Love" album was beautiful... especially the lullabye at the end. BTW, I never saw Animal so reserved when playing the drums.

  • Thats a sad song, that used to be our song, the one you just played.

I wonder, if I'd stayed, what we'd be doin' now...

  • I swear it's like some assholes on youtube just go around recklessly down thumbing videos that have no right to be down thumbed. Pisses me off.

  • Wow Paul williams has a great Voice

  • every good song from the 70's is somehow connectd and/or influenced by either elton john or paul williams

  • @guitarbutt

Yeah, but your reply wasn't...you still need therapy dude. : )

Jibber jabber, jibber jabbering, mumbo jumbo, denial, key-key-key-key-key-key!

  • Yes! What a great response! Totally perfect! I love it! LOL.

  • @guitarbutt

    Get therapy.

  • does anyone know if you can get this on cd???

  • this song was the "You Raise Me Up" of the good old days!

  • That's simply amazing...

  • Does anyone else find that this song reminds them of Casablanca?

It's a really good song and it;s such a shame you can't get it on I-Tunes

  • paul williams legend and IMHO a genius - the film phantom of paradise classic saw when i was a kid and still love it .. viva Paul.. oh yeah all them songs from Bugsy Malone thats him baby.. Genius..

  • paul williams legend and IMHO a genius - the film phantom of paradise classic saw when i was a kid and still love it .. viva Paul..

  • nice ..played it twice ...& being a Muppet fan is somewhat of a bonus. A fine distinctive voice.

  • Grande Paul!! cuanto hace que no escuchaba este tema!!! simplemente maravilloso <3

  • does anybody know where i can get this song

  • is this the same guy that did the music for Bugsy Malone?

  • @65hendy Yup Hendy that's the Bugsy Malone writer/singer.

  • @65hendy

    Indeed. : )

  • So true about Mr. Williams writing great songs. A lot of people would be surprised to find he wrote Family Of Man and Old fasioned Love Song sung by Three dog Night and most of the Carpenters Songs

  • I love you Paul.

  • if i ever meet the seven people who gave this a thumbs down, i will kick them right in the face.

  • @sarutobifreak I guess since he's not singing about pimps, sex, and hoes those seven idiots dont like him.

  • How I wish talent like this was what played on the radio today! Raw emotion in the vocals, lyrics that tug at your heart, and a melody that sticks in your head for days...rare stuff. Thanks for posting!

  • Classic! :)

  • Thanks for that.

  • good music is just that "GOOD MUSIC" you can't fight the fact - - Paul Williams God bless him !

  • awesome!

  • Seeing this brings back lots of great childhood memories

  • What does it matter how anyone looks; talent speaks for itself. If you've got, you don't need to prove it, it's part of you and Paul Williams has it. As a lyricist he's top notch.

  • @butterflydeli to true today its all looks and hype.

  • I got chills just now, seriously!

  • Pure Musical genius. Paul is among ther greatest composers of our time. I remember he said in an interview on the Smoky and the bandit extras that Jerry Reed was a great song writer which he was. But I also remember thinking to myself. Well what about you Paul. Your a great song writer too.

  • let's hear it for short muppets and near-midgets!

  • Well I don't think he technically is a "midget", I just think he is short.

But it's those tinted glasses, the long blond hair, and his weird mid west farmer looks, just don't settle with me.

Maybe his appeal was just a 70's thing, sort of like Fondue. Anyone out there feelin' me on this?

  • @6207865

Umm, he isn't meant to be a friggin heartthrob? O.o

Just a talented man with a gift to share.

  • Comment removed

  • @6207865 Imagine people liking an artist that didn't follow society's bizarre rules of what's attractive. What's the world coming to!

  • @NeverDoubt1 you're right I am sorry. How ever you feel and perceive things is the right way.

  • I remember this from my old VHS copy of The Muppet compilation show.. I forget what it was called exactly..... I never watched the show..but that VHS tape was like a best of... and i still have. It's a classic.

  • Paul Williams was such a great singer...and kinda cute, too! ^_^

  • beautiful song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very cool song.

  • dose anyone know where i can get this as an MP3?

  • just write on google, youtube to mp3 , then copy the youtube link in the site that works then click download, wait for a white and the video becomes mp3 for you to download <3

  • @6207865 Why ? Because he's a midget ?

  • @6207865

I would wager a shitload of things creep you out though, so your melodrama seems easily ignorable on a bigger scale. : P

  • @Asuigeneris1 This is such a great response! So perfect, when you consider the song.

  • Perfectly performed, love it

  • just got d i v o r c e d it does mean something

  • Best album " life goes on".

  • awesome

  • I still love you, Abigail.

    -John

  • My Dad and I met Paul Williams when he played the Suncoast in Vegas a few years ago. It was fantastic!! Paul and the Muppets were amazing!

  • I love Paul Williams and the Muppets and together they are amazing! :D

Although, I got a little distracted watching this video when I saw Animal in the background. It looks like hes just bashing his head on the drum set.

  • Rowlf was the best of the bunch, a true showman, and a true friend... I miss my Rowlf.

  • To all those looking for the original song, it also has two more verses in it. Well, one and then repeated with a little expansion of it technically, BUT, the album it was originally on was "A Little Bit Of Love" from 1974

Paul Williams, one of the most amazing and talented songwriters in history, working often with one of the most inventive and imaginative people (Henson) of all time. How could one possibly go wrong? That's right, one can't.

  • Very well said. Williams and Henson were a magical match.

  • Thank goodness talent like this could write and perform in some decade--it would never happen in this one, he isn't quite the sex symbol.

  • So sweet.

  • Had a (cough) interesting dream about Paul last night. No idea why I havent thought of him since Phantom Of Paradise! The album cover scared the heck out of me as a kid. My sister then scared me telling me about the movie! Today I remember Paul from Muppets and Phantom. I Yahooed and shocked he is still alive and near 70! Saw Paul with some Jason guy here on the Tube doing RC. Paul still sexy as ever and able in seconds to get me all emotional! I intend to find more of his songs and acting!

  • You should go see him perform. He rocks! I love him....

  • Is this the guy that plays the piano at the El Sleezo in the original Muppet Movie?

  • Are there any of Pauls songs from his album 'Old Fashioned Love Song on U-Tube, such a skilled and talented writer and clever singer too. Like the Muppet concept seriously under rated.

  • don't thumbs down the kids who don't know 'bout henson! they have to learn some time.

  • GENIALE PAUL!

  • He looks like a hobbit....lol

  • Edit-

You can download this with keepvid,

also check out "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" another great unique version of a song that was on the muppet show. I kinda mangled those first two attempts at a post... ahem..

  • While My Guitar Gently Weeps its by George Herrison

  • Yeah anyone could tell he meant the Muppet Version since this is a Muppet video. I have no idea why anyone would rate down his comment, when it is in plain site what he meant.

  • To get the mp3 of this version You can dl most of these vids with keepvid (use google)

Check out Dr.Teeth And the Electric Mayhem's version of "when my guitar gently weeps", best cover of that song i've ever heard. "it was a very good year" is also good.

    Ahhh The Electric Mayhem

The most awesome band that never was...

  • i want this song on my ipod!!!!!

  • Paul always sings this song as the closing song in his concerts!

  • hummm.............indeed a sad SONG.......

  • I have the mp3. I got it from this video. If anyone wants it.

  • Yes, I would like to have it. Send me a private message please.

  • i would love the mp3 of this song. how can i get it?

  • does anyone have any idea what album this song is on?

  • i want to have this song on my ipod

  • I just realized that this is one of the few times Animal plays without going crazy. I guess it was just too serious of a moment for Animal's usual crazyness.

  • or maybe they decided to give Animal his meds for this performance. There is one other performance Animal was in where he performed without going crazy, it was during the 'Razzle Dazzle' number with Joel Grey, he's part of the chorus, and spends most of the time with his eyes closed.

  • Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

  • Thank you for posting this video! I've been looking for this song for years...and have had no luck in finding it. I remembered it from when I was a kid....over 30 years ago. It touched me then, and still affects me the same way. Thanks!

  • dose any one know where i can find this song?

  • Same question here, I've been looking for an album from him with this song, but no luck so far....

  • THE PENGUIN DAWG!

  • daddy i'd like to kick the bandit's ass. paul williams is a god.

  • I love watching Rolf...its a puppet playing a puppet piano. Dr. Teeth is the same; A true art form on its own. I have yet to see any puppeteering match the Henson quality

  • I hear that. R.I.P. Jim Henson

  • We lost a master of the craft when he died.

  • He's alive. Still acting and singing at 68.

  • Paul yes. Henson, no. Henson's been dead for a good ten years, and I still miss his magic.

  • Comment removed

  • who is henson

  • He is a genius. He made the Muppets. All of them.

  • jim henson. the creator of the muppets. the genius behind kermit the frog, ralph the dog, and myriad others.

  • @Phantomsbreath

When Henson died I cried, a year later around the same time I cried again when Freddy mercury died...it's amazing how those people leave us and take part of us with them. : (

  • @Asuigeneris1 The great thing about people like that, though, is that they also leave so much of themselves with us when they go.

  • @Mandolinpossum

    True true. ^_^.

  • Amazing, awesome, flawless, original, creative...

Paul Williams is a genius and this performance just rocks.

    Thanks for posting <3

  • If people knew how many good songs he wrote or co-wrote they would appeciate him more.

  • The original studio version of the song was available on this site for a long time. A couple of days ago, it was inexplicably removed. Why?

  • Oh, Paul. Only you. <3

  • Out of all the Stars on the Muppet Show,Paul Williams I remember and that Song is one I love to hear thanks for uploading it here at Youtube

  • beautiful song sso simple but so effective

  • Wow.... this is one beautiful piece of music, well orchestrated and well executed. Many thanks for posting.

Sometimes the best songs are the ones that are simple in structure, yet carried to the third degree by a team of pros. In my humble opinion this is a great example.

I even love watching Rowlf's hands (paws?).

    -M.

  • Oh my goodness.. he is divine isn´t he? can anyone please compile all his songs into a CD? or put it up here even without videos? it´s so hard to get his CDs

  • The main is a genius

  • I love this song

  • Paul also voiced the Penguin!

  • Man one of Pauls most underrated songs. Surprised it's only on his "A Little Bit Of Love"

It aint on any Best os stuff. Real strange.

  • I agree. I remember this from a muppet video as a child, and always loved it. Now I;m trying to find an mp3 of it, but can't seem to find anything, not even a CD on amazon having it...any help?

  • You could download the video from here, then rip the audio track using software!

  • how do i do that? im not familiar with any software. any tips?

  • Type 'Total video converter rar' into google and you'll find something!

  • im not familiar with that kind of thing. how do i do that?

  • This video should help you: /watch?v=c4rjmDhdC4U

The method shown is quick and easy. I use it all the time. 8-)

  • @smarkwell46666 Mr. Williams also wrote the songs for the 2008 TV special "A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa". He also played an elf in that special.

  • You can see him occasionally on the Nick show, Yo Gabba Gabba singing "The Rainbow Connection"

  • I always tear up when I listen to this.

  • Awesome song. Sad, and yet kind of uplifting at the same time. Thanks for uploading :)

  • This was so good.

  • one of my favourite songs form the show, althoug almost every song from the show is my favourite :):)

  • It was cool to see Rowlf playing the piano along wit The Electric Mayhem when Doctor Teeth wasn't playing, but it would have been cool if Doctor Teeth was playing the piano for that song Paul was singing too, I think.

  • I wish I could download it

  • i could record it for you mes me

  • how?

  • simily elton jhon

  • I've been longing for this song to show up! Thanks so much!

  • One of my favourite Muppet Show guests!

  • This song made me cry :'(

  • You have seen Wanda get through an entire song without mishap.

  • Yeah, Wayne and Wanda do great on songs... just so long as they're not the main attraction.

  • I love this song! thanks for posting.
