I can't believe I finally found this. I have wondered for like the last ten years what the name of this show was. I remember seeing it on television in the early 90's, before I was in school age (I was born in '87). I just remembered channel and what time it was broadcasted (5.30 PM - can't believe I remembered that), and that the main character was purple and had some strange watch. I tried searching, but nothing came up until today. Really awesome to find it after about 20 years!

I never liked this show as a kid, he was to much of a bleeding heart for my taste (the altruists bother me even to this day), i also loathed the carebears (i was always rooting for their nemesis).
Character who are so ridiculusly goody goody and have no flawes aren't just unbelivable, they are also dull and predictable.
Tumbs up if you were cynical at the age of 5 as well.

While I understand that everyone has their faults, its the unbridled optimism of these characters is what makes them so memorable. You know the world can be a cruel place. But what keeps you going is that the next day/person/situation is a whole lot better than the last

We need shows like this not only on DVD, but also on reruns, and hopefully, Boomerang, WGN America or The Hub should bring this show back, and it's better than all of these cartoons that we got on today and this show was from the producer of Voltron, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, Denver The Last Dinosaur and Mr. Bogus

I think I just figured out which song it was for me! "Chosen One", from the second Pokémon movie soundtrack. Listening to them compared now, not very similar, but I still think it was that I was thinking abot, the breakdown sounds a tiiny bit like it. It had loads of stuff I probably wouldn't remember, otherwise. The episodes of Widget that were on that tape were one where he went to Australia and battled crocodiles with his fake accent and a boomerang, and one where some rich couple tried to steal the world's famous landmarks. It might have been the same episode. I don't remember.

@onigojira Thank you! At least someone else picked on that theme in the Gundam franchise. Actually, I rather surprised I thought I would get something completely different in reponse. Because if you watch 'Winds of Jaburo' Char breifly laments on the environmental damage caused by the nuclear devices used to blow Jaburo. I do have in my Gundam collection both the series and movies of Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack; which I throughly enjoyed.
Glad to see someone else noticed Char's a tree hugger. Still, with out environmentalist shows, children don't usually learn to give a damn about the wild. Most nature programming is not as entertaining, and too violent for their parents to let them watch due to how predators much avoid starvation. This show and others like it are required to help bring about new generations of biologists and conservationists.
Even though I was a 90s kid, of the many great cartoons that were around back then, this one sadly didn't make it into my childhood viewing experience :( .
90's cartoons has awesome intros because the makers of the cartoons were proud of their work. Nowadays, modern cartoons have lame intros because the makers are ashamed of the shit they just made.
I watched this before video power. It's one of the campiest cartoons of all time, and given what was coming out during the 80s/very early 90s, that's saying a lot.
If it wasn't for the "W" design, I would never have remembered this show! Either my memory is getting better now because of YT, or I'm just reverting back to being a kid! I was 3 when this started, so I probably just watched the reruns. Pretty cool, though!

Widget the World Watcher was way the best cartoon when I was young. And it is the best today but not shown in germany and that's not fair. That should be on DVD.
Best part of this song is 0:31-0:34, but the whole song is very awesome.

@onigojira Thank you! At least someone else picked on that theme in the Gundam franchise. Actually, I rather surprised I thought I would get something completely different in reponse. Because if you watch 'Winds of Jaburo' Char breifly laments on the environmental damage caused by the nuclear devices used to blow Jaburo. I do have in my Gundam collection both the series and movies of Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack; which I throughly enjoyed.

Glad to see someone else noticed Char's a tree hugger. Still, with out environmentalist shows, children don't usually learn to give a damn about the wild. Most nature programming is not as entertaining, and too violent for their parents to let them watch due to how predators much avoid starvation. This show and others like it are required to help bring about new generations of biologists and conservationists.

90's cartoons has awesome intros because the makers of the cartoons were proud of their work. Nowadays, modern cartoons have lame intros because the makers are ashamed of the shit they just made.

I watched this before video power. It's one of the campiest cartoons of all time, and given what was coming out during the 80s/very early 90s, that's saying a lot.

If it wasn't for the "W" design, I would never have remembered this show! Either my memory is getting better now because of YT, or I'm just reverting back to being a kid! I was 3 when this started, so I probably just watched the reruns. Pretty cool, though!
