People are seldom prepared for any emergency. Few have enough supplies to even weather a lingering storm. If the situation arises, when they need to live "off the grid," even for a week, most would not succeed. I like your idea, good for city, but I live 2 1/2 miles from the nearest town, and 1/4 mile frome the nearest neighbor. we are fortunate with garden, canning and frugal living, we can go for months. If I'm called upon to share, I will be happy to. All should prepare for if only for storms

Im a retired mech engineer, still doing some work and also handyman work to fill in...fortunately with a modest SS check..fast becoming worthless. I can tell you that even living in a motorhome these days with low expenses can be tough. an economic collapse will nail everyone... to prevent mass starvation i predict nationalization of the food supply..rice and beans for everyone... but not a lot else.. repair skills will be the most in demand. I recommend having those skills and some tools.

find silver at pawn shops, silver/stamp dealers, old coins are the best, mercury dimes, old 25c, silver dollars. Stay away from etf's, it is a scam, they are setting up people to lose, they have no gold, they merely have the opinion that they have it, if it goes up, the service will give them their $ back, if it goes down, they will get gold but highly unlikely. Food/seeds are the best investment, you can not eat silver/gold, you have to eat to live, cut down cost to live, most essential, peace!

i'd stay away treasuries. as for the etf-exchange traded fund, they're not actual gold, receipt, ownership of an opinion thats transferable, like exotic financial instrument, remember or realize, they're worthless but for dumb traders, they pay commissions, spend fiat$ to buy/sell opinions, soon hard currency will be needed. silver's good, barter/exchange w/others who've something u need/want, holds value/worth longer then paper money or cheap minted metal coins w/hyper-inflation coming soon..

ETF is Electronic Transacted Fund. They trade like a stock yet have similiarities with mutual funds. Long term >5yrs may be viable option, but trading them often won't make it worth the expense.
FDIC insurance is worthless when so much money is printed....inflation...dollar devalues and is worth nothing. It's time to get back to your roots. Pawn shops/gold dealers....get the physical stuff. Seeds will be worth gold someday.

Put on some weight: watch your fitness but each Kilo means 7000 kcal that'll make you survive for 3-5 days if you've also thought of enough water and vitamin pills. I'd buy gold&silver: greed won't vanish, you'll always find someone taking metals against something you need. Count on vices surviving too, so store cigarettes, Alcohol.. to trade!. If YOU have vices, get rid of them.

A desalinator is a portable water purifier..Mainly used in the military , it can purify lake aswell as salt water. The tent I have, "just in case" , i have to do an emergency evacuation...the only location thats near me , where i would set up the tent in that emergency, would most likely be the woods in upstate new york , or maybe a neighbors backyard/land.

It is a great read that "fictionally" gives the accounts of a group of families surviving after an economic crash and national meltdown.

Yeah the people who are comfortably off may notice less good times.They may even help each other a bit, maybe. The folk like me who have lived with poverty forever will have even less and will not be helped by those better off in any neighbourly way, somehow I can't see people having less as a reason for them to start being helpful,working together etc including others previously deemed unworthy by them. solar oven, solar hot water (poly-pipe), small generator (to pump water from well if you have one), lots of firewood and wood stove to cook on and heat water. A small solar panel and 12v battery. A good supply of dry goods (food) all good ideas. Be prepared people! at least we are in for a long recession but you dont have to personally suffer if you are ready.

I am always interested when folks begin communities. After 911 I remember hearing on NPR the only way to get though things were to be in communities. Having many others like me start a dance community, Sacred Circle Dance, we have had the experience of a heart attach, where lives were saved we checked in. Im British but its obvious there will be a serious impact here too. eye8one2; well said sir- the worst thing that can happen in this turbulent time is for people to get so paranoid that they develop an animal instinct of starting to pick on certain groups. As I am unemployed I have some experience of this. I am secretary of my residents assosiation and neighbourhood watch. I also volunteer in a charity shop and gave blood a few days ago. People are seldom prepared for any emergency. Few have enough supplies to even weather a lingering storm. If the situation arises, when they need to live "off the grid," even for a week, most would not succeed. I like your idea, good for city, but I live 2 1/2 miles from the nearest town, and 1/4 mile frome the nearest neighbor. we are fortunate with garden, canning and frugal living, we can go for months. If I'm called upon to share, I will be happy to. All should prepare for if only for storms

The issue now is to see we can produce at a local level all we need and we need to develop economic and social independence from the corrupts states that abuse our labour,and use as cannon fodder for their elites power interests.

I'm wondering if theres a bunch of us that can pitch in and buy a few acres (in an area where the wells run no more then 400 feet) to use a handpump to get water without the use of electricity and a stream to wash clothes and bathe and enough land to grow food and have a few chickens for eggs (to begin with) because you can get land rather cheaply (to pay in cash) when you have a few folks pitch in, at least it would provide a safe haven and be somewhat self sustaining

I started looking for land today just a place to throw a tent up near a water source because try being homeless your kicked out of everyplace, homeowners calling the cops, or getting kicked off the side walks, it sucks you truly have no place to lay your head without being asked to leave. Best place i'd think would be by the ocean to fish and have a whole lot of choices for eating free, but that would cost too much cause most rich people just park their asses there for the view lol

We've been able to ride out some of the storms because the base of local business here is VERY strong, and neighborhood peeps are extremely active in their civic responsibilities. However, big development (high-end housing and rising prop. taxes) combined with the bombardment of chain businesses are always a threat.

Im a retired mech engineer, still doing some work and also handyman work to fill in...fortunately with a modest SS check..fast becoming worthless. I can tell you that even living in a motorhome these days with low expenses can be tough. an economic collapse will nail everyone... to prevent mass starvation i predict nationalization of the food supply..rice and beans for everyone... but not a lot else.. repair skills will be the most in demand. I recommend having those skills and some tools.
