Adam Pascal will always be Roger to me, and I absolutely love Norbert Leo Butz, but you forgot Declan Bennett, who played Roger in the national tour from September 2006 to May 2007 and on Broadway from October 2007 till May 2008. I saw him as Roger in Feb 2007 and he was pretty awesome!
pascal wasn't really acting in that reunion show. he was just singing the song hes known for singing. So, not bad, but not on the acting. that high note he added at the end of it was nice. But I like Norbert, he had emotion but kept that natural soul sound in his voice.

Hes fantastic SINGING here, not acting but singing. He was fantastic singing on the original cast album, but i saw absolutely nothing special about the movie cast album.

I have to say that all of the actors chosen to play Roger were impressive in their own way. They ALL have strong voices and can clearly hold a tune. What it ultimately comes down to however is preference.
Adam Pascal IMHO was the first and still is the best Roger. He can hit the notes, feel the passion of the lyrics and retain a rocker element to "One Song Glory".
That being said, I did enjoy the other actors interpretation of this song and was impressed with their respective renditions....

My favorite of the actors to play Roger is Will Chase. He was in the 2008. The others are very good, no doubt. But, Will Chase, in my opinion, best fit the character and felt it the most.
Adam. Easily Adam. The song is made for him, especially in 96 - at that point he literally WAS the washed up rocker. And then to come back 10 years later and hit a note no one else does? SERIOUSLY. Damn. Guy is AH-MAZING.
2. Norbert. Awesome. Although now that I've gotten addicted to The Deep End it's hard for me to see him without thinking Rowdy. Or Fiyero.
3. Will Chase. Though only in 08. I do like how he moves fast, it works with the fact that Roger's a recovering addict

Damn, they're all good, I'm sure, that's why they were all on Broadway or touring. But the song seems made for the raw quality of Adam's voice and his tough, strong masculinity when performing.
Norbert because he was my first and no one has yet been able to compare to him live. Love Adam though, and am seeing him tomorrow. I will say that while there are some technically better voices, they don't fit the rawness that Adam originated and Norbert held pretty true to. I think many sound like they're trying to hard.
It is really hard for me to tell from these clips. I love how the song changes from being so tender to ramping up this point and going back to the tenderness. From all the videos I have watched, Adam Pascal is still my favorite. I love the tenderness in his voice for this song.

Adam...hands down. A few of the others did it justice...like it was acceptable, but then you hear Adam again in the in 06 clip and the others just don't stand up.

I would say the reason why Tim Howar wasn't a good Roger was his overacting. Yes, Roger is a "brooding" soul, but that doesn't give the actor the clearance to act like a second-rate soap opera star.

adam was good in 96, but chase was my first.
i just saw adam in the tour, and i'm sorry, don't kill me, but he just...didn't seem into it. it rubbed me the wrong way.

yeah this is pretty much his one claim to fame, and he's been doing this forEVER so he's probably kinda bored of it. Which is sad, because he's amazing, and it's an extremely powerful song.

2008 chase is as good as any pascal, among the other acceptable ones were Shields, Ryness, and Norbert, Howar made my ears bleed.

My favorite is Cary Shields, he was my first Roger and no one has topped him for me. I am not going to say Adam because I have not personally seen him live (only the movie - which to me is totally different).
My order, only listing who I've seen live, is: Cary Shields, Joshua Kobak, Tim Howar (when I saw him he was much better than this clip) and Will Chase

Manley Pope was a massive mistake!!! Can't even hold his notes out. He ended before the music. And no one beats ADAM!!!! I saw him a couple weeks ago in RENT and he is amazing!!!

That Norbert guy was actually really good! You know...for someone named NORBERT. Same goes for Cary Shields.
Tim Howhatever's performance was such a turn-off. How desperate were they when they cast him?!
The other guys were okay, but they looked like they were acting, you know?
Will Chase is so cute and I hate to not love him. But his voice is a bit too...nice.
Adam will always be Roger. He just IS the character in every way. No competition.

Adam 96, Adam 06, Adam 07, Adam 09 and Norbert Leo Butz in 97-98 LOL. Sorry huge Adam fan. Adam is Roger. It's as if Jonathan wrote him just for Adam. Kushner made me want to jab my ear drums out with a pencil. Tim Hower being the worst ever. Will Chase overacted in the final performance and was just not appealing to me at all. Among the decent ones were Carey Sheilds and Manley Pope. I'm very stuck up when it comes to my Roger's LOL. Adam's my number one by far.

Adam...hands down. A few of the others did it justice...like it was acceptable, but then you hear Adam again in the in 06 clip and the others just don't stand up.
I'll be seeing him and Anthony Rapp next week haha

There is no competition, Adam is the best. Some of the others are decent singers. But Adam is the only one who actually sounds like a rock star, instead of broadway singer trying to be a rock singer.

some of them are really great..... but its surprising how bad some of them suck... some of them were not roger AT ALL..... oh and by the way adams '06 riff by itself kicks everyones ass.....

Well of course Adam is awesome......I also saw Manley Pope two years in a row and he was fantastic...I don't think this clip showed his true talent at all.

Will definitely has the passion and a decent voice for the character but Adam IS Roger, and his voice is so much more unique than everyone else. Everyone did have a little trouble even Adam sounding good on "time dies"

I would say the reason why Tim Howar wasn't a good Roger was his overacting. Yes, Roger is a "brooding" soul, but that doesn't give the actor the clearance to act like a second-rate soap opera star.
(Will Chase is definitely the closest thing to Adam Pascal. )

My favorite is definitely Will Chase, there is something about his voice and just the way he portrays the character that draws you in. I thought Cary Shields was great too. And of course Adam Pacal is freakin awesome!

ADAM PASCAL ALL THE WAY!! Will and Carry following. But Adam Adam Adam. And not just because he originated the role so that's what we all hear on the soundtrack - but he's just got the best control and SUCH a good voice - boy can SAAAANG! :)
