If any of you were really interested in finding out the truth, there is a perfectly good, accurate biography of Crowley, "Perdurabo," written by Richard Kaczynski. It talks about him warts and all. 1) The Book of the Law is not a "grimoire." It is a prophetic writing. There's a difference. Look it up.
2) The sections of the Book of the Law are not labeled as Surahs. The Quran has Surahs. The Book of the Law has chapters.

In all the literature concerning Crowley that I have read I have yet to see an objective shot at seriously picking the bones out of "Liber Legis". As it was not the only significant area of his scholarly legacy it would not totally discredit him to denounce it as an over-polarisation of his thought but I suspect many of his "fans" fear exactly this. Subjectivity either for or against Crowley seems to stand in the way of a proper analysis of this most unusual and enigmatic work.

In my opinion, this work is fictional poetry written in code. Powerfull still, but I see it as a work of fiction created when he was a young, ambitious magician.

If any of you were really interested in finding out the truth, there is a perfectly good, accurate biography of Crowley, "Perdurabo," written by Richard Kaczynski. It talks about him warts and all. 2) The sections of the Book of the Law are not labeled as Surahs. The Quran has Surahs. The Book of the Law has chapters.

According to John Symonds, a Mr. Rowe witnessed Crowley's death along with a nurse, and reported his last words as "Sometimes I hate myself." In 666's time it was highly illegal to write about Sex, however gruesome violence was complet;ry OK. This important bit of magickal instruction is a metaphore for ritual masturbation.

In all the literature concerning Crowley that I have read I have yet to see an objective shot at seriously picking the bones out of "Liber Legis". As it was not the only significant area of his scholarly legacy it would not totally discredit him to denounce it as an over-polarisation of his thought but I suspect many of his "fans" fear exactly this. Subjectivity either for or against Crowley seems to stand in the way of a proper analysis of this most unusual and enigmatic work.

@hexatonia You hear him use the term "scarlet woman" several times in this work. This was a term he used to describe the slutty type women he preferred. In my opinion, this work is fictional poetry written in code. Powerfull still, but I see it as a work of fiction created when he was a young, ambitious magician.

@diablo22900 the "scarlet woman" is "MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT" mother of all harletts, whore of babel. This is reference to a religion or church. He's really saying he prefers a world with no morals or ethics. Thats what "Do what thou wilt" means. Do whatever you want because its all just a learning experience. In Watchmen, Rorshack disliked liberals because they we're close to these beliefs in terms of rehabilitation for repeat violent criminals.

@Maniac50AE Yes I understand. However my point was, some of the terms used were repeated throughout his life. The Book of the Law to me, seems like a work of Crowley's imagination. A very powerfull, hypnotic work, but I doubt it's authenticity.

There's a lot of "good" in Big Al's little publication. There's some BS too, of course. Crowley just couldn't go very long without injecting his peculiar type of crap into everything he came up with. But all in all, the "LAW" isn't that bad as far as dogmas go.

@slickrickdarula it's all symbolism just like the bible. don't fear things that are not on your path of worship. By studying other religions besides your own and you'll see how they're all connected. Trying to achieve the same purpose. What that is you'll have to find out yourself. Do the hard work like others have done to find the truth.

Through my research of modern and past religions I do believe there is One single creator God and many of his creations are mistaken for ''gods''. I do know religions are all connected. Now how you assume I am ignorant by my answer to someone labeling, and justly, so Crowley as a satanist. Religious texts inspired by the Creator make my hairs rise. crowleys use of canibalism as a comparison to love makes my stomach churn.

Lord Summerisle explains that the God of the fire will enter and impregnate the women, and points out that the Christian God impregnated Mary with a golden stream.
