at 2:27 I see no reason why black had to sacrifice pawn pushing it from b5 to b4. I'm sure others pondered this too. If so, I apologize for asking the same question. From this point on, I wonder if a series of repetitive checks on the white king could have resulted in a draw. Also, I'm wondering why at 2:24 when Kasparov uses Queen to check the king, why Black King didn't move up the board to B3 instead of A1 and eventually progressing towards defending pawn at B5.
@lolimnoteighteen , Lol he was playing the thousands of people I think he deserved white. for all you know people used chess engines and I bet th majority of players were GMs.
Wow! This game is an EPIC. This will go down in history! Amazingly, Gary Kasparov was able to win the end game, even though, I thought he is already loosing it.
@codfanboy1020 No... The world played very well. That move at 0:27 Qxe4 was perfectly fine. It would have been a Rook for a Knight and two Pawns to make an arguably equal position. The world saw the fork and allowed it to happen :)
@NewVahan2 How do we know that he isn't still playing? Sometimes it is nice to take a new username and just play or 'play' - out of the spot light.....
@semasiologistics No the truth is that this is a great vid...if you see it twice or more yopu understand everyhting...analysis is too tiring...so in the title the person who is written first plays with the white peaces (and the other one with black ones).I think u r wrong here, man
This would be like Usain Bolt racing against the whole world. He's the fastest person in the world, so no matter how many people are behind him, they still can't win.
@ninjajesus81 - Not exactly. Garry Kasparov is arguably the single best individual. However, chess is one of those games where multiple people sharing ideas can oftentimes find something better than what any individual might have done. It's not a task that's limited to one person like running. Instead, try to imagine a treadmill with gearing that enables it to run at the sum total of all of the individuals running on it vs. Jesse Owens by himself. That's closer to what Kasparov was up against.
@shockeychap Yeah, my analogy wasn't that good, but yours was way off. If you added the speed of 50 thousand people, there's no way Bolt could win. If the average person ran 5 MPH, which is extremely slow, Usain Bolt would still have to run 250 thousand miles per hour to win.
That would be literally impossible, whereas, obviously, the chess scenario was possible.
at (2.15) instead of playing "P-b5" the "Q-c2" should be played by black it will give him a check and queens will b exchanged..and white can easily stop the white pawan and advance his pawn to queen......
@motrinpain , capturing the pawn would have cost the world team two pawn advancement moves toward queening. (One move in the capture, another in the retreat of the bishop.) Kasparov knew what he was doing by offering the pawn.
@motrinpain I believe I can answer that question. If the pawn takes on g3, then the pawn on f2 retakes and the f file is opened for the rook. That prevents the Black king from moving to the right in order to stop the h-pawn's advance, hence the pawn queens. Here is a sample variation: ...fxg3, fxg3 Bxg3, h6 Ne5, h7 Nf7, Rxf7 Kxf7, h8=Q. Here's another from h6: ...Be5, h7 Bg7, Bh6 Bh8, Rf8 Nd4, Rxh8 Nf7, Rf8 Nxg5, h8=Q. While only my analysis, I think those two lines are conclusive.
The reason why the world lost? Because two teenage girls were part of the panel. Granted, they were excellent chess players in their own right, but neither of them were grandmasters. Together they influenced the world to vote their novelty ...Qe6! move instead of castling. Instead of Qxe4 I would have O-O instead.
Hilarious. They really missed the fork. But what we shouldn't forget is while they did win back material, they lost the right to castle without compensation.
They saw the fork and predicted that they wouldn't be able to castle. They knew that after all this that the game would be even on material. They didn't win back material because they knew from the start that everything would be even, the vast majority of the 50,000 people are very strong players... Just thought I'd clear things up :D
castle was not important in this game for black. they saw how material was dissapearing very quickly and didnt think the king should leave the middle. although the king casteled on the g file would have prevented those 2 pass pawns, who knows what would have happened. black lost by only 1 turn though.
I don't understand why they resigned? They could have made it a draw with there queen consecutively checking Kasparov of which he would use his king to just keep circling around his pawn.
Psychological move? He was in check.

A rook is worth 5 points. The World got a knight (3 points) and two pawns (2 pts total). The only downside is the doubled up pawns

Any reason why at 1:29, kasparov moved his king to h1 instead of g2. I guess there'd be a forced loss in 85547382 moves if he did...

Kasparov's 2 queens would adventualy gang up on blacks queen.
Deep Thought actually calculated chackmate.
Whites king would make it into a corner were if black checked, white would be able to block with the queen and black can't check again.
