I think he's using Omar's gun. Remember how the little hoppers stripped Omar after he got shot? I think Michael made off with the gun and that's what he's using here.
Na DeathandGrim, everything's not a circle. Namond can not become a Carcetti. Their different origins can't make them the same. Poot did leave the game, but he just works in shop, whereas Cutty built a whole boxing gym : he did not simply apply for a job.
It would have been too easy to just say that at differant times, the characters are identical.
It's a great scene and it's pretty scary how much Michael resembles Omar in it. I wish there was another season of the wire where they'd do a tme skip and show us just exactly where everybody ends up in 5-10 years.
Perhaps the guns and bullets they get aren't of very good quality? I'll imagine you can't find grade-A firearms and ammo in the hood, they probably are searching for whatever is the cheapest. That's just my theory.
shortly after mike got adopted by a white family in beverly hills and changed his name to dixon and was finally able to live a normal life like he wanted to lol... (some people wont know what im talking about lol)
@wasteman99 Yeah bro i only started to watch it because he got one of the lead roles but it's a pretty good show, If you do start watching it i would go back to the beginning in season 1
I liked how not only did the Wire show that "life goes on" with Michael essentially being potentially well known Rip'n'Run artist. They simultaneously showed a possible backstory for Omar through Michael too.
A person who had an internal code, learned skills, but in the end as Snoop said, "never one of us, and never could be." Eventually becoming the most respected and feared person in the community.
this was probably my favorite moment of season 5 (aside from the photocopier "lie detector" and the "good night moon" thing--but those were homages to several other works anyway). even though throughout season 4 I was hoping he would turn it around and find something positive, it was kind of cool to see that even though he was going to stay in the game, he decided he wasn't going to be a pawn anymore.
They should have a spin off maybe a Movie or series called Micheal... & Marlo should be his rival. Micheal should bring the best out of Marlo & his meet his match like Marlo & Avon but Marlo bieng who he is wont let it be so easy & nothn like avon... Marlo letting him know why he's the HNIC
This makes perfect sense, I reckon they new this was how Mike was gonna end up from the start. He couldn't deal with authority, couldn't rely on no one, but he wasn't cold enough for the unfair killings demanded of a soldier.
I love the way that at first in this scene, Michael seems a bit scared, but then he gets a sudden urge of confidence when he remembers ho much power he has in the situation and he even starts talking a bit like Omar!
@cash48607 Naw that's Michael. He gonna be way better than Omar because Omar had one weakness that Michael will never have and that's KIDS. Michael won't let his guard down for nothing. although he does have a code just like Omar.
@cash48607 It's like we only gotta small peek on how Omar was when he was a lil shorty comin' up, but we got to see Michael from the very beginning. Michael's life allowed us to imagine what sort of momz Omar probably had that is why I was crackin up at what Avon said when he asked, I think, Shamrock to get that Welfare info. on Lil Omar. What season was that?
the wire portrays the problems of inner city crime as a never ending cycle. after Bubbles cleans up his act and starts a new life, Duquan fills his role as a junkie. and after Omar gets killed Michael steps into his boots as a stick up man. Its essentially metaphorical, regardless of how much effort the police or social workers put in to get people off the streets, their work is never ending and will never win the 'war'. though as carver said in season 1 'you can't call it a war, wars end' <3
@MrBigDaddy001 Also note that Poot became the one who left the game and chose to grow up and become legit much like Cutty, Namod becomes more like Carcetti, and Marlo is like Stringer and Avon mixed, with some want to be a business man but just too attracted to the call of the street.
@DeathandGrim2 Nah, Marlo was strictly like Avon. Stringer didn't give a shit about the street, fame and dropping bodies for rep. Stringer wanted the money, in the end he wanted to be legit and make it ouf of the hood. Marlo has no interest in leaving the streets behind, he thrives in that environment. His last scenes are pretty straight-forward in that regard
@Eadavis07 despite the fact that he gets down with a girl in season 4(maybe 5) and connects with another at a themepark he goe visitin with bug and Duquan?
This scene just sums up the series perfectly. EVERYONE is a part of the system: not just the cops and politicians, but the dealers and stick-up artists too. Someone needed to fill Omar's shoes, just like someone needed to fill Daniels' and McNulty's shoes. They all play their part, and the system just continues. And that's why the whole "war on drugs" is nonsense; people on the "wrong" side of the law are just as much a part of the system as people on the "right" side.
So much detail in The Wire and connected events that MAKE the show. Michael shoots Vinson's left knee, the same way that Omar shot Sterling's left knee during the stick up in Season 1.
Marlo sold the connect, and most of the "big timers" were softer than cotton on a baby's ass. This is a prime example of how the young and strong prey on the old and weak. As for who the young man is with him, think about it; Mike had already made a rep for himself. I'm pretty sure that while not openly confirmed, it was a well known secret that he was the one who killed Snoop. That boy was a foot soldier, probably the next snoop or chris.
The character "Mike" isn't meant to be a duplication or exact replica reminiscent to that of which "Omar" portrays. Their styles are similar, mentalities slightly the same, and enviornment identical. That's it. Notice how the writer makes a point to show us that Mike isn't gay (i.e. the scene w/him and his lady friend). Big fish, small fish, some fish all fish, it didn't matter who he robbed. Remember two of the most feared foot soldiers were outta the picture (chris/snoop)
It s aight Mike becoming something like the "new omar", but why did they have to bring it EXACTLY like Omar robbing the Barksdale stash house ??
It would have been enough seeing Michael rob some kid at a corner with some shotgun. But the boy punking the biggest fishes in town, man..?? Thats way too much credit. And I hate that shit he s doin with the tongue man - that s even gayer than Omar was.
Whole scene s just not SUBTILE "you know what that means ?" "Laid back n shit". Exactly.
@paraparrot he used to work for those same people. The people who later tried to kill him and made him go on the run. Just like Omar to hit them back where it hurts.
yeah but i was just saying that i was disappointed from the season ending.
i know he was workin for them. but he was working for them like mr nugget works for ronald mcdonald. he d never come up from his basement with a shotty n fuck up ronald. and if he did he would not do that gay thing with his tongue haha

Michael was the perfect character to take over from Omar.
If you watch the prequel of young Omar, he was very similar to Michael. Omar questioned about whether robing that man at the bus stop was justified,
which is very similar to when Michael questions Chris and Snoop about whether they can justify their murders.
