Regarding the comments below on where Alvin Lee stands... They are ALL great guitar players... including Alvin Lee. The best thing that can be said is that they all had their own sound. No two players on that list sounded alike. They are all unique in their own way. Unlike today's guitar players that were all taken from the same mold. Enjoy them all...
I was playing guitar a bit back, then, and I recall that around 1969, we weren't very impressed with Alvin Lee -- he was fast, but no taste - after listening to Hendrix, Clapton, Harrison, Garcia, Kaukonen, Page, etc, AL just didn't seem very engaging once the flash wore off.
@georgef1776 I saw all those you mentioned in concert and remember all of us thinking Alvin Lee was as good or better than those on your list. He was more than flash in our humble opinion.
@goodthing52 I am sooo jealous. I also want to see those in concert. Especially Harrison (<3 beatles) and hendrix! Such a pitty Hendrix was long gone when I was born and Harrison died when I was 7. Damn I'm really jealous.
@paulv3rm3ul3n Don't be jealous. the hippies were the biggest hippocrites ever. if you didn't do or like all the things they were into, you were nothing. the music was fantastic! the people weren't.

Ten Years After - "Parchment Farm" is great too. The problem with today's music is that they forgot how to boogie, they lost the soul they got from the gospel music, and they lost the down home Hank Williams country vibe.
Awesome performance, thanks for the video upload! I have the DVD & VHS too, but sometimes I want to watch it on PC & share it, just fell in love with Alvin, his vocals, his guitar, his songwriting, his blues. Increible, han pasado mucho tiempo y la musica sigue vigente, con su magia , creativa... Peor lo mas alucinante son la reminiscencas cuando era un adolescente...
Saw Woodstock the first time in my early 20s in 1970 at the University of Texas student union theater for about 50 cents. This song has stuck with me for decades, what a performance! There is nothing like this happening now.
In a interview Alvin Lee did, he said before they went on, he had run out of cigarettes and there was none backstage. So he went out in the crowd for a couple hours to find some.Didnt come back with any cigarettes but did come back with about 16 joints. People didnt recognize him while walking around. I miss the 60s.

I was in High School in 1969. I was lucky to be at Woodstock 1969. I KNOW BEYOND THE SHADOW OF ANY DOUBT that my generation, the Baby Boomers, created the greatest rock bands, the greatest Rock Artists, and the greatest Rock music of all times! The music today sucks and is lower than runny rotten foul maggot filled shit!
@theundercoveratheist Sorry you feel that way.Theres still plenty of good music being made these days.If you are talking about top 40 pop then I agree with you.
To say of all time isn't fair for future artists, for up incoming people. I was born in 88' I realize that some of the music of today is bad, trust me I know. But with new music genres being born every couple years with amazing artists rising out of nowhere, the horizon of music is expanding at an alarming rate. Think about the last 60 years of rock n roll, it's insane how much its changed. All I am saying is to call Alvin the greatest ever is wrong, better then beiber
I was in the Navy, in Memphis, in 69 - couldn't make it to Woodstock. Bummer. Did see Iron Butterfly live in Memphis and one of my flight crew knew the drummer, so we got to go see them warm up. They started their performance with Soul Experience. Wow!
@theundercoveratheist There is good music still, it's just rarer and harder to find seeing as they don't get anywhere near the coverage that all the cheesy pop and r&b/rap (i like some modern rap and r&b) acts get.
great stuff no matter how many times you watch this video and listen to it, that's the high bar young guitarist's have to reach, where are the rock band's? watch ,listen and practice.
I saw Ten Years After 7 times and never did the band turn in a lame or uninspired performance. I saw Alvin break a string in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, change the string while the band kept time, then he finished the song. I've seen every band from The Stones twice, Zeppelin 9 times, Queen 5 times, and 143 other great bands in the 40 years from the 60's to 2000 and TYA was one of the very best.
I played these Woodstock 8-tracks @ full blast in my '64 VW, everyday in the Summer of 1970! (I had a peace sign sticker on the back!) ..Got drafted in '72.
After this gig-- at the end of which, *someone* rolled a watermelon up on stage-- future crowds at TYA shows started rolling LOTS of them onto the stage at the end..like 100's, til there was no way to deal with all the melons..
@sirPage94 - That's how old I was when I first hear 10 Years After {Elvis}.. (if not younger)..So, you may still be listening to this 25 years from now! :o)
It's not just Alvin not getting his props from the mainstream but the entire band itself! Just listen how tight they always are.The band alway comes first, and TYA has always done just that, so simply fuck the mainstream cuz it's always the music that lives on and not the hype. Maybe it's going to be Hundred Years After cuz they'll still be diggin' it then!
Fucking a, Rolling Stones magazine is fucked up when a great guitar player isn't even in teh top 100. I think those rummies had their heads in their ass. Shit man, Alvin Lee should have made the top ten. Cleartwater.
Intro well fuck, this man could play a guitar. Fastest guitar player I've ever seen period. The chords and nots and licks are perfect. Pershing Auditorium July 1970 was awesome. When he played this song all hel broke loose. Chairs were flying and I got hit in the head and knocked out, after I woke up I got busted for having a tin of joints in my pocket. Needless to day the Lincoln police were stupid assholes and let me go with the Dope. Great concert. Cleartwater.
Apparently while recording this the Drum Microphone broke so they had to add alternative Drums to the track later. Corky Laing (of Mountain) was Commissioned to do the job so the drumming you hear is not by Ric Lee of Ten Years After.
The math has it from the response to this video that a little over 99% of the listener have at least one good ear for frigging real hot absolutely cooking rock n roll. I'm real sorry for those 1%. Maybe someone could start a web site for donations for their invalidism? Now that's what's called saving the planet!
Rolling Stone Magazine (Dec 2011) listed the 100 Greatest Guitarist of All-Time:Alvin Lee wasn't included! What's that one about the one-eared man being a king in the land of the deaf. This king ought to help out all those who voted in this Rolling Stone whatever-you-want-to-call-it!
@raymind1313 Why do you even give those idiots the time of day?.Who the fuck died and made them experts?!.So they have a magazine. That makes them experts??!!.FUCK THAT!!.I looked at those ratings once, and laughed my ass off!...I do my own rating!.Guaranteed, Alvin couldn't give two shits, himself...TYA is about the music; not popularity contests..IMO, if you're putting people in numerical ratings order, that's a clear indication to me, that you know less than shit about music.
@cheezer57 They're not idiots just mainstream-many of the voters were accomplised musicians, whether you or I even dig their music. I don't know what makes anyone a music expert, I was just the messenger and am sorry this offended you so much.TYA is more than only the music, but about TOO MUCH MUSIC. A big reason they've never been embrace by the mainstream as other bands have. I've dug them for over 40yrs and that's that-and don't give two shits about your perceived indications of me!
ONCE AGAIN WHEN I WATCH THIS VIDEO THE POSITIVE ENERGY FLOW WHICH COMES WITHIN ALVIN IS ABSORBED AND GIVES ME THE MOTIVATION I NEED WHEN I FEEL LIKE THE WORLD HAS CONSUMED ME. A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW A REAL MUSICIAN CAN CHANGE A PERSON'S
SPIRIT. THANK GOD THIS ONE IS FOR THE GOOD. THANK YOU FOR YOU.
I saw this a million years ago (did not go to woodstock, saw the movie when it was released), and it is still as FANTASTIC as the first time I heard it!!! Bought all the 10 Years After stuff I could find the very next day. I gotta say that we, and Alvin Lee, were gyped by RS magazine for his not being included in the 100 Best Guitarists....

After this gig-- at the end of which, *someone* rolled a watermelon up on stage-- future crowds at TYA shows started rolling LOTS of them onto the stage at the end..like 100's, til there was no way to deal with all the melons..

But woodstock is already the greatest thing ever.

Man the only way woodstock could have been better is if Zeppelin was there.

One of the All-Time Great Tunes!

Now that's what's called saving the planet!
raymind1313 1 month ago
Rolling Stone Magazine (Dec 2011) listed the 100 Greatest Guitarist of All-Time:Alvin Lee wasn't included! What's that one about the one-eared man being a king in the land of the deaf. This king ought to help out all those who voted in this Rolling Stone whatever-you-want-to-call-it!
raymind1313 1 month ago
@raymind1313 Why do you even give those idiots the time of day?.Who the fuck died and made them experts?!.So they have a magazine. That makes them experts??!!.FUCK THAT!!.I looked at those ratings once, and laughed my ass off!...I do my own rating!.Guaranteed, Alvin couldn't give two shits, himself...TYA is about the music; not popularity contests..IMO, if you're putting people in numerical ratings order, that's a clear indication to me, that you know less than shit about music.
cheezer57 1 month ago
