....of freakish size cause I just don't see them that big anymore around my area any more do to the droughts in TX it's just not as easy as it used to be to go out and find things like this anymore, but any who that's my .02 and nice video and topic btw!
@souldiesoul I really think with all the destruction of forest and snakes natural environment they are adapting to hiding better to preserve their lives. That's sad that they have to fight so hard to survive and reproduce but man has become so horribly destructive :O(
I love this video! I think with all of us who have/love snakes started early on in our lives admiring them, but as for me I started last year "again" but this time actually building a collection. In July of 2011 I got my first ball python and by October or November of 2011 I had 11 snakes. My first snake was when I was about 10 years old I ventured out to the canyon "since it was literally in my back yard" and caught my first snake. LOL it had to have been an 8 foot and it was a Bull Snake....
@souldiesoul I have nine now myself and most are over 5 feet and I swear I have enough and see some species that I think about constantly and before I know it I find myself ordering a new baby snake to raise LOL They are definitely habit forming and the cool part is that each is different so we can learn something from each snake we keep and raise. I'd be in my glory living in Australia with all the wild Carpet Pythons that aren't shy about being close to people :O)
@1softkiss . Yupp.. I can't wait to move out Of my parents place n Get more . Lol. I don't think I'll be getting ones as big as your guys though .THERE HUGEE!! when was the last time you could pick ur argentine ones up ?
@linnett9 t usually takes two adults to get one of my Argentine Boas out because they love their enclosure and are reluctant to come out but once out I can still handle one by myself. Actually have a video in my top list on my main channel me with a 10 foot boa out on my lap. I can still handle them alone, but I won't have them out unless I have someone here with me to assist.
Ive adored animals Since a young Age And Watch Animal Documentaries All the time . But Steve Irwin Brought out my Passion for reptiles , I find them Truly Fascinating to watch and understand. I got a beautiful Baby Kenyan sand boa for my thirteenth birthday , About a month ago and he was only about 1and a half months old when I got him . I love Handling And Caring For the Little Beauty . I Really Badly Want More !! ;)
@linnett9 LOL I have to snicker at your comment because we all started with one and I now have nine (including huge constrictors) and am forever debating getting another snake but I restrain myself. They are amazing and VERY habit forming and the cool part is each is different and we learn from them all too. Bob Irwin really was a HUGE inspiration in my life as well :O) Thank you sincerely for the wonderful comment and compliment !!!!
@edawgandn8 babies and young juveniles are very defensive until they learn that their handler isn't a predator but a baby can't bite hard enough to even draw blood it's no more than a pinch. The more you handle it the quicker it gets over that behavior. I will send you a message with links to a couple of my videos that will show you how to work with a baby. You're better off getting bit by a young snake than an older one by trying to handle it because if they aren't used to you they will bite.
iv loved snakes for a long time, i remember when i was young my family took me too well the snake hunt :( it was all these rattle snakes the people captured them then measure them and whoever got the biggest one won. I wasn't enthused about them "hunting" a snake but i was rather appreciative of the snakes and their beauty. So i later on asked if i could start keeping snakes, mom turned me down lol. But as an adult i do his name is Kratos he is a red tail... he makes a goo companion
@GishDiva think it's mostly a matter of anyone getting up close to them and really seeing how beautiful snakes truly are and each is as individual as each person is. This makes them that much more interesting. I agree with you that the first real exposure to a snake or snakes leaves a lasting impression. Kratos is an awesome name and I adore Boa :O) That's really great to hear that your Mom has learned to appreciate snakes through your experience and most times that all it takes.
@edawgandn8 I've only been sprayed once by my big Argentine Boa female and that was because three of us were trying to get her to soak in the bathtub and she wasn't having it. We all ended up on the floor with her on top of us and she got us good with musk. Needless to say she gets her soaks in sterlite plastic totes now LOL
to continue my story I'm getting my boa next week!!! then once the tegus start hatching in the 2012 breeding season I plan on getting one of thos!! I have never been this excited. anywho I love your vids so keep up the AMAZING work!! at of all the snake owners on youtube you have to be the best. the bond and love you have for your snakes really inspires me. in fact your videos helped me convince my parents to let me get my first snake!!
@beardedDRAGON007 That's TOTALLY awesome :O) Boas are amazing animals heck look at me I only weigh 130 pounds and I'm only 5 foot 9 and I've raised my big 11 foot Argentine Boas by myself and they are really two gentle giants !!! It all depends on the time you spend bonding with them. Thank you sincerely for the wonderful compliment on my videos !!! I just adore sharing my snakes with other people because they are so awesome :O) If you ever have any questions please feel free to contact me.
I got into snakes when I was 7. My sisters friend had an aggresive 6 foot red tail boa. Sure enough when I went over there with her they put it around me. It striked at my face and started squeezing really tightly!! LOL once they got it off of me they thought I would be scared for life but right afterwords i ran to my parents and asked them to get me a boa!!! :D LOL after years of collecting smaller reptiles like ball pythons, corn snakes, leopard geckos, etc. my parents are letting me get one!!
@beardedDRAGON007 That's really a great story and thanks for sharing !!! I think it's wrong for people to intentionally scare people with snakes but most times people's fears are based on any bad experiences anyway just on their lack of education. It's really a good thing the experience didn't turn you against snakes but instead made you more interested in them :O) Boas are truly awesome !!! All snakes are but I've found Boas to be the less defensive of all of the larger snakes.
@edawgandn8 Best way to go. I got all of my snakes as babies except for the two rescues. It's a lot easier to get them used to being worked with as babies to get past that defensive behavior and people get older ones from others that have never been worked with and stay nasty tempered often.
@1softkiss yeah(: but right now, they all ate, my femaale desert ate fuzzy and a pikey and my male ate a large fuzzy and yesterday my ball ate a rat so i can handle him tomorrow. and also, when i get my baby carpet ill be feeding him large pinkies. Will that work? thanks(:
@edawgandn8 Approximately how old is the baby Carpet you're planning to get because young ones usually start out on mouse pinkies and then advance to fuzzies and crawlers. I got mine up to the largest and then broke them over to baby rat pinkies. Didn't take long for them to graduate in feeder sizes though. My little female Jade is still on mouse fuzzies because she's giving me a rough time getting her to switch over to rats but Chewy has been on jumbo rats now for a few years and he's 3 years.
Ive had a bearded dragon for years now but snake only for like 8 months. I do have good expirence and when I'm sick like today, I just read reptiles mag and go on YouTube and look at carpet pythons.
@edawgandn8 I've never raised monitors or geckos or bearded dragons myself but I've sure been thinking about it lately because, like you, I love watching the videos on them :O) Sorry to hear you're sick :O( I've been dealing with some bad sinus headaches and when I get down and feel crappy I always take out a snake and that seems to make things better.
Steve irwin got me into snakes at a young age. Then I let it go because I wasn't allowed to keep them): Last April I found snakebytestv!!!! Sure enough in may I got a snake!! Collections been growing since(:
@edawgandn8 That's awesome !!! I know Steve had a major influence on me for helping raise my interest to learn about animals and I remember when his show first became public and people thought he was crazy LOL Well, some things never change I guess because many people still refer to us as crazy because of our love for the snakes. They are for sure habit forming after that first snake :O) 50 years for my addiction.
I think I bonded with snakes when I was a child because I always knew I was "different" and I felt like snakes are so misjudged and from the moment I got my first snake, I felt bonded to them and felt like I understood them and they related to me too. My snakes are my children and I adore them. You have such wonderful devotion to your babies, I truly admire you!
@cutegayjason WOW !!! That really blew my mind I've always looked up to you and your love and dedication to your babies :O) Probably why we've always been the best of friends and always will be and I'm damned proud of that !! You have the biggest heart and the warmest personality and there are TOO few people like you in this world my friend !! They truly are our children and just as deeply loved. I felt the same way with my first snake like I found something I belonged to and fit in with.
and sorry, videos keep crashing on me, our connection sucks this week. When things get faster again (its like up and down, come and go here....) I'll be able to watch this entire video :) and comment more - also im trying to upload a bunch of stuff and its really horribly slow from here in China. Thanks and lots of 93's
@HOORVT Trust me I know how annoying that can be without a solid internet connection. I'm truly so honored to have another reptile enthusiast from another country as an acquaintance and a friend :O)
OK, how did I get to keeping snakes as family members?
well i was always interested in snakes, yet I had a fear of them. As a child and teenager and young adult I was never around any snakes, no friends kept snakes, and I just never had an opportunity come to me where I could handle a snake (other then garter snakes)
As a child garter snakes did not appeal to me, so I guess with the local climate and all, snakes did not get its fair chance.
Upon learning of the occult, I learned that serpents had a great importance in the study, but it was not until I awoke my KUNDALINI energy that I understood the importance of the serpent in the study of the occult - more so the mind and body.
I had always found constrictors in general to have very beautiful patterns, and have always preferred the chaotic patterns of the Python. When I came accross the chance to get one I did, and he was able to teach me a lot.
Why do I keep them? to me they are a part of me, and they help me understand the deepest parts of my mind and body. They seem to originate from something close to the source as their behaviour is closly linked to that of the universe, and of our mind and body. The more I study the snake, the more I understand ourselves, especially our fears, and theirs which are also ours.
@HOORVT EXCELLENT response as well as the previous comments but this one really has my full attention. Many people think I'm strange that I tell them snakes have amazing healing powers and I am living proof of that !! They are likewise an extension of who and what we are as a person.
To me they are part of my, part of my family, like children. Unlike what most people think, many snakes enjoy human contact and attention. Infact once they learn that the human will not hurt or try to scare them, that the human provides them with food, water, shelter and warmth, then they tend to calm down a bit, from what I have found - though I do not have the experience to speak properly on the subject - a few more years should fix that.
@HOORVT Snakes not only learn to trust and bond through handling they become protective of their handler. 50 years of raising snakes and I have some stories that would shock most people about their FULL potential to bond with humans.
Even my Green Tree Pythons look at me with curiosity now, they no longer flick their tounge or move in fear.
I think that am what I am most after - is befriending the things which scare me and which I am scared of at first. In that case they have become the Best of Friends - honestly more caring them most humans I have met.
@HOORVT Another reason I live alone and don't seek a social life is because I'm totally content in the company of my snakes and always have been. If you're having a bad day, take one out and bond with it and they will never fail to make your perspective on things more positive. :O) Thank you SO much for these incredible comments and for your input and I support your thoughts, feeling and reasoning TOTALLY !!!
My great grand pal was native American and liked to catch them around the house all the time. He thought me how to catch and handle them and how to care for them. I started out with copper heads but I'm not a big fan of hots I only keep constrictors now. Great video these pets are here to stay!
@painter4769 That's a cool story and thank you for sharing this with us :O) I'm also half Cherokee and really give my heritage credit for my ability to bond with animals and nature and I've never feared snakes. I love "hots" myself but that first wild caught Water Moccasin was the only one I've been in close contact with. I agree with you totally !!! All the rules and regulations can't take away our love and passion for snakes and it is a new beginning, not an end :O)
I've always liked reptiles and ive always wanted one pretty much, but ill say its thanks to snakebytestv that my parents allowed me to keep them :) so thank you Brian and the BHBcrew
@Lewisreptiles Brian and Lori are old friends of mine and actually Chewy, in this video, is named after Doctor Chewy from BHB Reptiles and my new baby female Coastal is named Jade, after Brian and Lori's daughter :O)
My passion for snakes came when I was about 5 years old. I would catch baby garder snakes and bring them home and tell my mom "I saved their lives". lol. I was never able to keep them as pets growing up but Im making up for it now. I have several corn snakes. I also have a baby coastal carpet, a pair of sub adult jungle x diamond carpets and a piar of adult irian jaya carpets. My passion for snake will never go away and I will fight tooth and nail for my right to keep them along side USARK.
@ggcornball WOW !!! That is an early age but love stories like yours. It seems we all got addicted once we realized how cool snakes and other reptiles really are :O) I'm raising my first two Corn Snakes after having kept snakes for 50 years even though I've always kept large constrictors I totally adore the Colubrid's. It's like we always tell people through our battles they can't take away our love or passion for these animals so they are wasting their time.
@1softkiss it really is an addiction, but it is a good addiction because it makes us stronger and better people.. and if thought of in the right way, could make us invincible,... not all drugs are bad, especially if they are used in higher ways and not abused.
@ggcornball Andrew did a great show on Urban Jungles Radio on blogtalk last night you should download the show. It gave us all hopes for the future of our hobby :O)
Lol. I have had my fair share of bites. Sometimes they mistake my hand for food. HAHAHA. Once again, love the video. I want you carpet. Very pretty snake. Mine is a baby.
@darkpheonix2169 Been there and done that and EVERY time was my own lack of good judgment. I've got a pretty good track record six bites in 50 years but the worse one was when my 11 foot female Argentine Boa had my entire left forearm in her mouth. This one wasn't a feeding strike she had banged her face on their perch base thought she was knocked out and reached in and touched her and she turned and nailed me. I have a young female Coastal also and thanks for the nice comment :O)
@darkpheonix2169 good tip on feeding to discourage the snake from striking you by accident. Wash your hands with real cold water and they are much less likely to pick up on your body heat :O) Works wonders actually.
Cool story Carla. When I was about 8 or 9 my dad caught a baby gray rat snake and put it in a jar. My brother and I didn't get to handle it, because he didn't know if it was venomous or not and neither did we. But that sparked my interest in snakes I think. Around 12 I caught/kept a cornsnake hatchling that my brother and I had found on our front porch wall. And in 2010 I caught a baby yellow-bellied watersnake. This year I'm finally able to get a real pet snake. I'm aiming for a Dumerils Boa <3
@Agentofthe1Truth Thank you and I really appreciate you sharing that with everyone. It's amazing actually how so many people that got into snakes started with their first wild caught and that's really awesome !! I've never seen a wild caught Corn Snake personally and would love to find one. Watersnakes are really neat but fast probably like my baby water moccasin was. I adore Dumeril Boas !!! Almost got a mating pair when I decided to get the Argentine Boas and still love the Dumerils !!!
I got into snakes back in 2005. I had my first snake and that was a common garter snake. Three years later I discovered ball pythons and I have been in love with them ever since. I love all snakes, including the big constrictors and even venemous. They are all incredible animals that are just so highly misunderstood. Snakes deserve to be respected just as does any animal.
@cstoudt1973 That's really not too long ago and I'm glad you got into the hobby :O) I've heard from so many people that they started out with a garter snake or some wild caught snake. It's amazing how fast we got hooked on them and I don't think that will ever change for most of us. You are totally correct they are misunderstood and really bugs me that many have the opportunity to learn about them and still refuse to. Thanks for sharing this with us !!
@MrReptileSmile Thanks Gerry :O) I've always been asked how I got into snakes so though for a change it would be nice to hear from others. Chewy is such a big baby I can do anything with him out with no worries LOL
@juggernautreptiles I've really not decided as of yet there are so many wonderful looking species. Thank you for the suggestion I will take that into consideration :O)
Thats realy cool when I was 10 my grandpa got me a burmese python for my birthday I had no idea how big it would get so I had it for a year and ever since then Ive loved snakes and I still have my python today
@deerhunterken871 You know, I've met quite a few people in their young teens that posted they were getting a Burmese Python and so many people flipped out. It's ridiculous because age doesn't have anything to do with responsibility actually. I've met many younger people in the hobby that were incredible and a lot more dedicated than many adults are. That's so cool that you still have your Python to this day :O) Amazing snakes aren't they?
Great vid n beautiful snake. Ok first reptile I got was Two adult red slider turtles at the age of 5 we got them from a Chinese restaurant so we saved them from becoming turtle soup but after that I got a adult male bp as my first snake the same year and two baby iguanas that's y I have so many different species of reptiles and the best part is my turtles r still alive n will be more then 20 years old in may wich were my first pets ever
@juggernautreptiles WOW !!! That's great to hear you saved 2 sliders !!! Props on that call. That's really commendable to take an adult snake and raise it because adults are usually set in their temperaments and personalities depending on their previous care. That's really great to hear that your Turtles are still thriving :O) You have to take credit for that for sure !!! I've been debating getting a couple of Geckos to raise since I've always raised snakes.
@gainer2420 Thanks for sharing that with us all !!! It seems everyone that gets their first reptile or two ends up addicted for life and nothing at all wrong with that :O) Lay's potato chips have nothing on snakes as far as having just one. LOL Also, thank you for the nice compliment on the video !!! I'm always talking and really have always had a great curiosity about how others got started and hooked on snakes.
@INKEDisINSANE Man, I came so close to getting a breeding pair of Dumeril's did a years research before I decided between the Dumerils or the Argentines and was one tough choice to make. I've always loved the colors and patterns on the Dumerils. Brian from BHBReptiles has a huge Afrock !!! One fine looker in fact. Yeah, that would be really great to see yours breed just hope we can kill anymore snakes being added to the ban.
I started with snakes late.. My mother hated them! I seen my first " big " snake at the age of 9 or so at a local pet store. I'm 36 now. Wanted them ever since! It was love at 1st sight. I bought my first about 15 years ago.. After I was settled in to my own house. Now my mother does not mind coming over and checking out my snakes and even holding them!
@INKEDisINSANE That's totally cool and thank you for sharing this :O) They are habit forming and I for one can vouch for that LOL It's great that your Mom has warmed up to the idea of them being a big part of your life !! I couldn't even begin to imagine my life without being surrounded by snakes :O( How many total do you have now?
@INKEDisINSANE The real kicker and irony of it all is my Mom is still petrified of snakes. We went back home two summers ago to visit her and my brother and she wouldn't even watch my snake videos on youtube on my smartphone. She really was traumatized as a younger person walking home from school some guys tossed a snake at her and her friend and it landed on my Mom's feet and to this day she still never got over that bad experience. It's sad but that has happened to people.
@1softkiss 'They are amazing and very habit forming ...' True That ! There Legend!!:) ( youtube didnt let me send this bit earlier)

@1softkiss we raise snakes outside of us and inside of us ;)
HOORVT 4 weeks ago
To me they are part of my, part of my family, like children. Unlike what most people think, many snakes enjoy human contact and attention. Infact once they learn that the human will not hurt or try to scare them, that the human provides them with food, water, shelter and warmth, then they tend to calm down a bit, from what I have found - though I do not have the experience to speak properly on the subject - a few more years should fix that.

@HOORVT Snakes not only learn to trust and bond through handling they become protective of their handler. 50 years of raising snakes and I have some stories that would shock most people about their FULL potential to bond with humans.
1softkiss 4 weeks ago
@1softkiss i bet they protect in return if they feel it :) they have morals

@1softkiss yeah, they are the best - so are cats and dogs - all the true gods IMO :)
I love just sitting in the room with them, I do it a few times a day, even meditate in there, day or night. its most relaxing.

My great grand pal was native American and liked to catch them around the house all the time. He thought me how to catch and handle them and how to care for them. I started out with copper heads but I'm not a big fan of hots I only keep constrictors now. Great video these pets are here to stay!
painter4769 1 month ago
@painter4769 That's a cool story and thank you for sharing this with us :O) I'm also half Cherokee and really give my heritage credit for my ability to bond with animals and nature and I've never feared snakes. I love "hots" myself but that first wild caught Water Moccasin was the only one I've been in close contact with. I agree with you totally !!! All the rules and regulations can't take away our love and passion for snakes and it is a new beginning, not an end :O)

My passion for snake will never go away and I will fight tooth and nail for my right to keep them along side USARK.
ggcornball 1 month ago

Lol. I have had my fair share of bites. Sometimes they mistake my hand for food. HAHAHA. Once again, love the video. I want you carpet. Very pretty snake. Mine is a baby.
darkpheonix2169 1 month ago
@darkpheonix2169 Been there and done that and EVERY time was my own lack of good judgment. I've got a pretty good track record six bites in 50 years but the worse one was when my 11 foot female Argentine Boa had my entire left forearm in her mouth. This one wasn't a feeding strike she had banged her face on their perch base thought she was knocked out and reached in and touched her and she turned and nailed me. I have a young female Coastal also and thanks for the nice comment :O)
1softkiss 1 month ago

Agentofthe1Truth 1 month ago

Snakes deserve to be respected just as does any animal.
cstoudt1973 1 month ago
@cstoudt1973 That's really not too long ago and I'm glad you got into the hobby :O) I've heard from so many people that they started out with a garter snake or some wild caught snake. It's amazing how fast we got hooked on them and I don't think that will ever change for most of us. You are totally correct they are misunderstood and really bugs me that many have the opportunity to learn about them and still refuse to. Thanks for sharing this with us !!

Thats realy cool when I was 10 my grandpa got me a burmese python for my birthday I had no idea how big it would get so I had it for a year and ever since then Ive loved snakes and I still have my python today
deerhunterken871 1 month ago
@deerhunterken871 You know, I've met quite a few people in their young teens that posted they were getting a Burmese Python and so many people flipped out. It's ridiculous because age doesn't have anything to do with responsibility actually. I've met many younger people in the hobby that were incredible and a lot more dedicated than many adults are. That's so cool that you still have your Python to this day :O) Amazing snakes aren't they?

Great vid n beautiful snake. Ok first reptile I got was Two adult red slider turtles at the age of 5 we got them from a Chinese restaurant so we saved them from becoming turtle soup but after that I got a adult male bp as my first snake the same year and two baby iguanas that's y I have so many different species of reptiles and the best part is my turtles r still alive n will be more then 20 years old in may wich were my first pets ever
juggernautreptiles 1 month ago

@1softkiss I have a female African Rock & a male and female Dumerils boa.. I plan on breeding them in the next 3 years or so.
INKEDisINSANE 1 month ago

INKEDisINSANE 1 month ago
@INKEDisINSANE That's totally cool and thank you for sharing this :O) They are habit forming and I for one can vouch for that LOL It's great that your Mom has warmed up to the idea of them being a big part of your life !! I couldn't even begin to imagine my life without being surrounded by snakes :O( How many total do you have now?
1softkiss 1 month ago
@INKEDisINSANE The real kicker and irony of it all is my Mom is still petrified of snakes. We went back home two summers ago to visit her and my brother and she wouldn't even watch my snake videos on youtube on my smartphone. She really was traumatized as a younger person walking home from school some guys tossed a snake at her and her friend and it landed on my Mom's feet and to this day she still never got over that bad experience. It's sad but that has happened to people.
