I'm working on taxes and just noticed that a notice I got from the California Secretary of State was signed by "Information Retrieval/Certification Unit". The future is now...
Yeah I suggest everyone go play Deus Ex and watch Blade runner, thisd is the world we live in adapt to it now figure out how to survive in it now. There is no hope, no hope at all, we are fucked, doomed, game over man game over.
There was some creative use of space in this scene. Even though it looks like a cavernous building with endless hallways, there was in reality only one hallway; the impression is created through editing. Also, the hall wasn't that long; its appearance of receding to infinity was created with a perspective painting.
"Aaaah here we are! Your very own number, on your very own door. And behind that door, your very own office. Congratulations DZ/015, welcome to the team!" *pat*pat*
Life imatates Art, Prehaps they could rename the Dept of Homeland Security the Bureau of Information Retrieval! "Don't hold out to long son, I will hurt your credit rating"...
British humor seems to delight in bleak satire, and more power to them.
John Cleese once said he couldn't understand why Americans largely prefer Holy Grail to the Life of Brian, when he and his fellow Brits prefer the latter. Honestly, I think it might be that many Americans are just uncomfortable with cynical, biting social commentary.
I'm American and saw The Life of Brian before the Holy Grail. l love them both equally, though Brian was the first Python movie I saw. Life of Brian is extremely underrated and deserves more attention than it gets. Who threw that rock?
Its a possibility, but that means you have connections. For Sam it is a premotion that his mother gets him. He wants to remain in a lovely dead end job where no one can take note of him. As the movie progresses he is called before the boss on more than one occassion, and everything and Information Retrival is more sereptitiously bound into the idea of power. The higher up you get the more mysterious it becomes. There are more secrets and efforts to control human imagination and even the body.
In my sociology class the teacher makes growing up sounds rather pointless and meaningless because all of us go through the same stages of life from birth to death its all the same!
I think Armstrong and Miller borrowed more than a little from this scene.
