I went to this church's homepage...I am disgusted.  That makes me feel sick to my stomache and want to puke at the thought that they are christians like me and a good majority of my friends. I am appauled that people can be this mean to each other. Nobody can say what god hates...we aren't god. God can like what he wants. Protesting won't change that. EVER!

Goddamnit, I hated everyone at that rally. Counter-protesters included. And I'm bisexual.

My reasoning? The WBC doesn't believe a word they say. They're a family of lawyers who say this shit in hopes that someone'll snap and attack 'em. Then they sue and PROFIT!! They want attention, and everyone there gave it to 'em.

Meanwhile, I sat in the cafeteria and talked to my friends. And not about the WBC. We did good by ignoring them.

@dudelikesWoW They're going to get some sort of attention no matter what. Even if nobody showed up to counter-protest their signs would be polluting the streets of Hilliard. The main thing the counter-protest conquered was drowning out their ridiculous signs with mostly silly stuff. Doesn't look like anyone snapped at them, so they just wasted their money to come here. I'm sure karma will get them eventually.

@RightInTheCankle Oh and another point: They can only sue if they're harmed or someone threatens violence against them. No one did that. I'm proud to say I was there and because we were there to counter protest the children going to school in that neighborhood saw signs that were sarcastic, funny, goofy and most of all not the hateful ones which were lost in the sea of others. Same goes for the people making enough noise to drown out their hate speech. I'd say that matters.

@dms1702 done enough to make that determination. Counter-protests have gone on for decades; ignoring has not. Until you have something besides blind claims and pointless insults, don't try to sit there and call me out. The only reason these people should be paid any mind is to bar them from being in proximity to a funeral or other ritual of respect and privacy. Other than that, they should be ignored. People shouldn't attempt to out-protest or out-debate them. They need to be ignored.

@RightInTheCankle Whether you do things or not, what gives you the feeling of self importance to dump on what others feel is a productive response? Counter protesting isn't just about WBC, its also about the people they prey on. Whether you like it or not it means something to the people who do it and whether ignoring them turns out to be their kryptonite it is worth it to the people who feel strongly about showing an opposing voice.

Some people believe that protest and making one's voice heard is an avenue to change. Why should WBC be the only ones taking that route? Maybe you have a valid idea, but you come across as attacking people who are just trying to change something that they see as being wrong and that's why someone called you a douche.

For example, in response to their criminal activity, I attended protests against Scientology and participated in information campaigns about them several years ago. As a result of our efforts, their actions have been brought to light for the public and their incoming membership has drastically decreased. With WBC, nothing will change by

@RightInTheCankle Well I'm sorry that you feel WBC doesn't meet your criteria for reaction, but I and many others feel that making sure the WBC voice isn't the only one being heard is more than enough reason to do something. You may feel its a waste of time but that doesn't mean others do and I hate to burst your bubble, but not everyone believes what you believe and we're going to do what we feel is right. When you do something about a situation, whether what you do has any real world impact or simply turns out to be a symbolic gesture of support for those being unjustly demonized, then you will have earned the right to criticize.
