This was good, this kid is REALLY good which tells us he has been practicing for a while...the sound resembles what a non-indeginous player would play but with a splash of old indiginous music....
hello again...this is DJ Didgemasterdyl....if this kid is 15..then i cant wait to see more of him...if you think this is beatbox???u r wrong...as i am a didgeboxer my self....man...why all the hangups about tradition....i love playing didge..always have and i play what flows spiritually from within me....if that is not traditional..then what is??...

Alright Guan, thanks for the correction! You are the Man with many years of experience with Yolngu traditions!New sounds to My ears though!Great Stick,Great Player!!!
I understand that the technique is traditional, but the compositions are new. But what are "aeroplane noises"? Please define. Thanks so much for posting these great clips. Much love. And BTW, Elijah is awesome! His playing touches me spiritually.
It's amazing how fast he introduces the overtones, do you know if he uses the tongue? or just by droping the jaw and pressing the lips? Thanks... He's really incredible... Keep didging man!
O.K.I will join the Chorus of People Praising this incredible young man!!!!I have NEVER heard anyone playing anything near this style on Yidaki before!I reckon he has invented a whole new way of playing!Wonderful!Tradition is Great, but so can innovation be!Thanks again Guan!!!
For sure! I hope he keeps improving and getting stronger, as he's only young. Heaps of talent there which has already seen him on tour to France, Singapore, Malaysia. He's a good kid too with solid grounding.
A few teenagers aspire to playing like that, they're fully into pace and syncopation. It'll be interesting to see how the next generation go about playing at ceremony.
what is the noise at 52 seonds?
erippke 1 year ago
It isn't the yirdaki, just background noise, someone doing something behind us.
ididjaustralia 1 year ago
Thanks, when your listening to such a great player its hard not to think that they can produce any sound at will.
erippke 1 year ago
Yeah, there was some critisicm with this kid, that he plays too fast and without spirit,
I really don't think thats the case at all, its evolution and the spirit evolves ! It sounds great and contemporary !

Contemporary but with an unmistakable traditional sound.
Normal contemporary players dont make this type of sound

well he is showing the instrument's responsiveness but he is very good and if i could play that fast, i would do it

Well, it is a new type of sound in that the compositions are new, but the technique is traditional as opposed to 'aeroplane' noises so to speak!

"Aeroplane noises" are what we call some of the sounds made by non-Indigenous players, those shrill swirly noises...

Sounds like an aeroplane!

I think he uses his tongue as well as pressing his lips together.

It is kinda traditional though, technique-wise. Glad you like it anyway, thank for the kind words!

Guan - Elijah has taken the "rock n'roll" style to a completely new level. That was absolutely incredible!

Only 15 years old. Puts us to shame...

Take a close listen to the 2 almost imperceptible overtone notes at 5 and 6 seconds. Beautiful delicate touch.

Wow. I should just quit now ;)
