Humans will simply eat themselves. These cities will not be able to be maintained as the fossil fuel age comes to an end. However they will keep breeding regardless, which just make the inevitable collapse worse. We cannot even be fully blamed as the laws of natural selection and thermodynamics have doomed us from the start.

Overpopulated or not, poverty will always remain as long as most wealth/power is concentrated in the hands of the few. The problem lies in both Africa and the international community. Saying that overpopulation caused all of this is just over-simplifying everything. Saying that they need to keep their pants zipped up and that they deserved to be killed by aids/ depopulated/ sterilized (*ahem* comments below) shows uneducated, ignorant fucking people's superiority complex. @grEEnTEar By having the wealth concentrated in certain places we've become educated enough to know rampant breeding is not a good idea, that's why a population crisis can only happen in the 3rd world.
Would sterilization really be such a bad idea? Charities might offer to help these people, but the problem is literally growing faster than it can be solved.
