Also, there's someone who can skip the first guardian battle (occurs around 6:40). Anyway, yeah, I saw a TAS where someone managed to to get out before the door closed. It's on speedrunarchives. I was like FUCKING NO WAY. Still, that was an impressive speed kill.

Yes, except for Spore Spawn. He uses the early super missiles sequence break to avoid him completely.

then he could also leave out the first chozo-thing boss, just required to run into the door with higher speed and turn around quickly while collecting the item

Why do people thumb others down for asking an honest question? Anyway, It's for storing extra energy units. There are four in all. When set to Auto, they refill your energy the moment you run out. Or you can set it to Manual and refill it yourself. You need full energy in order to fill the tanks though.

ya that happens on a lot of vids of this game 4 some reason, maybe its the emulator?

It's because YouTube halves the framerate. Samus flickers on and off each frame, so looking at every other frame you'll only see the ones where she's missing.
