She came to my school last friday and let me tell you she is beautiful inside and out , she is really smart and has wisdom in her soul. she recited "Daughter" and "4:02pm" to us. she truly is inspiring.

Yes, while religion does recommend not to wear such clothes, at the end of the day its up to you and is not something that should be used as a judgement. I've seen people all covered up doing things that are fundamentally wrong.
If your muslim in the quran it says u have to cover your head and chest. In islam u must do it were not perfect. we are sinners and not covering up and commiting zina and other things that go against allahs word is all part of ppl doing wrong i didnt say she must be covered I asked why. Its her judgement not mine. I know where u coming from cuz i would have agreed with u a long time ago but if your muslim u have to follow the sunnah. Its a struggle yes.im not saying when u cover your a angel.

I do think that the poem communicates something more open than "anti-military" in that it points to the way leaders have made decisions without paying attention to the will of the people and her generally "anti-war" stance. I believe that she speaks to both sides: those that want to kill and those that defend those who are under attack.
I am proud to see our men & women serving in the armed forces. Lord knows that I could not do it. There are parts of me - however utopian and impractical given humanity's penchant for self-destruction - that wish neither military nor war existed. Those parts were moved.

Ms. Hammad is not opposed to war. She's opposed to Israeli military operations in defense of Jewish (and Arab) life in Israel.
This is propaganda deserving of little critical attention. The line about drum skins that had once been living is particularly disingenuous - she mixes a real historical fact (European Jews' skins) with a (wobbly) metaphor about "drums of war." The suggestion that Arab skin is being converted into Israeli "war drums" is without any basis in fact. It's just bad poetry.
i think you're reading (listening?) too into it. the way i perceived it, she was just talking about the preciousness of life, and i think, if anything, she is talking about both the IDF and Hamas & related organizations. i thought the poetry was far from bad.

how sensitive a jew can be when he hears the word skin and accuses a sensitive poet of using his imagery from his holocaust, and yet, he is immune to the holocaust close to his presumed home, israel,he cannot hear the cries of the children of Gaza whose skin is hanging off their tiny bones, because he is so wrapped up in his own past, his own obsession, his own narcissism, doesn;' it make you ashamed to be part of a human race which still has nazi written in its soul somewhere in israel

Ms. Hammad is not opposed to war. She's opposed to Israeli military operations in defense of Jewish (and Arab) life in Israel.
This is propaganda deserving of little critical attention. The line about drum skins that had once been living is particularly disingenuous - she mixes a real historical fact (European Jews' skins) with a (wobbly) metaphor about "drums of war." The suggestion that Arab skin is being converted into Israeli "war drums" is without any basis in fact. It's just bad poetry.

i think you're reading (listening?) too into it. the way i perceived it, she was just talking about the preciousness of life, and i think, if anything, she is talking about both the IDF and Hamas & related organizations. i thought the poetry was far from bad.

Im pretty sure youre exactly backwards. If you watch her longer poem that will be made more clear, but even from this one, it is clear she is speaking from an anti-arab perspective when she says she wont commit suicide for revenge.
She isn't anti israel, she is pro-life.
