  • improver of humor

  • if no one finds me play this when im dead

  • Amazingly fresh!!!

  • Great song!

  • "It went the dull and wicked ordinary way."

  • Saw these lads at Oxegen over here in Ireland, knew nothing about them before that, but was so impressed that i checked them out. and OH MY DAYS am i glad i did.

  • awesome!!!

  • This should seriously be the theme song for the next James Bond movie

  • I don't really get 'sick' of this band...I just keep craving new songs.

  • So happy I discovered these guys. Been listening to them for the past 4 months non stop.

  • Last night at Sudoeste, Portugal. Amazing guys.

  • 7 people must have severe auditory processing disorders to thumbs down this brilliant little piece of music. Only logical explanation.

  • This band has a way with my heart. What synchronicity can do sometimes is quite...shocking. Never before have I just happened to hear a song that latches onto me in such a fashion.

  • I'd swear the joyous singing in the background that starts around 2:11 is Spencer Krug, from Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown!

  • @MichiVarela Any idea what he's singing/yelling? I love how it syncs with the song, it sounds great.

  • @betsapp91 Sorry, I have no idea at all, but I also think it sounds awesome.

  • @betsapp91 I was wondering that too, this is what I found but it's just what other people posted in a blog on a lyrics site. Someone wrote "i read an interview where Matt said he would never reveal the words. But the interviewer suggested 'dont draw the ace and fold it' which sounds right to me " Someone else wrote "I think it's "just drop the dice and roll it"

  • I don't know why they haven't played this on Chuck yet! It fits it perfectly.

  • This song, fuck it, this band, mean more to me than any other.

  • Amo esta canción, qué genios que son

  • Whoever is wondering, the lyrics at the end are "I'm Talking Ace"

  • The National certainly has an astute group of fans. What sophisticated comments.

  • Lovely!! No olvidaré jamas el show que dieron en Lollapalooza Chile!! ♥

  • this may be the best song to listen to while you're solo stoning. It blew my mind when I first found it.

  • this is such a class act.

  • im barely getting into them. but frm the songs ive heard, ithnk i found my new favorite band.

  • @upstuffed i just found out about them a couple months ago and i gotta say they're up there with Chili Peppers, Modest Mouse, and Built to Spill for me. lyrically and musically the National is genius.

  • This band is the real deal.Once you see them live you will be completely disarmed by their prowess

  • quite wonderful

  • I have yet to hear a bad song by them.

  • "yeah, I was down in the medulla, we talked about vomiting and ejaculation and stuff , it was great."

  • According to the band (at the concert yesterday), this song is about being wasted. Aaron said it was about the cultural demise of society, but Matt set him straight.

  • what are they yelling in the background near the end of the song? i cant tell

  • Sorry I missed you girl, but I did have a secret meeting in the basement of my brain...

good excuse. and mentally-ill disorder. makes you think.

  • I'm sorry I missed you but I had a secret meeting in the basement of my brain.....

  • Grrrreat song!

  • God I love them. Magnificent!!!!

  • I love the creativity

  • Best on the album, by far.

  • reminds me of wolf parade in a way, huh.

  • I'm sorry, but this has to be my album of 2005... even though there were others, this just tops my list!

  • Never, ever be sorry about that! It's so wonderful :)

  • terrific album opener,it draws you right into what s about to come.

  • The favourite song of The National. Calm, full of meaning and great, very great. I love it.

  • Wow, I haven't heard something like before-- I like it! Anyone know any other bands which play this type of music. So far, I only know about Bon Iver and Fleeting Foxes.

  • @youlosez Maybe you would like modest mouse, the shins, band of horses?

  • Comment removed

  • @youloses The bands name is Fleet Foxes, not Fleeting Foxes... But your right, they do have a similar type of music.. I think I like The National more, Fleet Foxes has too much harmony..

  • haha sorry about that. Do you know any other bands similar to The National?

  • S'kay, try the Joy Division, they have a similar style cx

  • @youlosez or The Sound...they even have a similar lyrical subject on the song called "Party of the Mind". Both great bands!

  • I agree, though the word is "have", not "has" ;)

  • Oh thanks cx

  • @casualerror1 Fleet Foxes are a great band for me,because they remind me of The National.

  • @SaricOsijek What?! They're both great bands...but really difference.

  • @Transpacity I agree that they are very different, but I can see where Saric Osijek is coming from. Especially with this song, compared to the song Your Protector by the Fleet Foxes. They just have a similar sound.

  • *Fleet Foxes.

  • One part is 'I'm talking Ace' - I asked Bryce Dessner once but he only knew his bit :-) Fantastic song and band.

  • definitely one of my favorite songs by the great national

  • The national is a style of there own, it's peaceful... not excitement, but peaceful. It makes you feel like you just want to, be happy, and humble. I love the national, probably one of my favorite bands.

  • Lyrics are on their website

  • This song reminds me of my girlfriend, the most beautiful girl to ever grace my life. x

  • The National truly are in a class all their own...

  • What are they yelling at the end of the song? I NEED to know.

  • it sounds like "don't talk it ain't important" not certain though.

    :)

  • it's either something like "don't drop the ace, just fold it" or "just drop the dice, let's roll it"

  • I've always thought it sounds like "Let's roll the dice"

  • It sounds to me like, "... in the basement for you" But I have NO idea. Somebody, please tell me!!

  • Are you talking about "I'm sorry I missed you, I had a secret meeting in the basement of my brain"?

  • I might have figured it out. "Don't check in the basement for me." It's a reference to a novel written by a female author that Matt Berninger is friends with.

  • Reminds me of my girlfriend too...

    LOVE YOU TINK!!!

    Cracking track

  • LOVE. THIS. SONG.

    sweet jeebus, it's absolute perfection.

  • great song !

  • amazing song. i love the national

  • thanks for posting in a good quality....

  • My favorite song by them. They really are a brilliant group

  • great song
