Best Rock Instrumental Performance
(For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, without vocals. Includes Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. Singles or Tracks only.) They are in a category along with David Gilmour, Metallica, Zappa Plays Zappa, and Nine In Nails. Worst case scenario: they lose to Zappa Plays Zappa. For some reason, the Grammy's people do not like real music by real musicians. They adore the Company Men. Rush Rules!

Hey what do you mean Company Men? Last time I checked America was a capitalist nation, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE MONEY. I am a Metallica fan but I just listened to this song and liked it. Just because u like a certain band doesn't mean u should disrespect the competition.
amen even at 40+ you dont mess with Alex he is my idol the one that inspired me to pick up a guitar
and think about it hes not like Synyster gates or Steve vai (not saying their bad) that have to play these repetitive same old speed riffs and shreds that all almost sound the same
hes been in rush for 31 years now hes gotta be one of the best (same for geddy and Neil) but anyways Alex forever
what? how could alex not be familiar with david's work? something doesn't make sense there. still, this song is quite an achievement. beautiful. i liked in the concert how it needed no introduction, no nothing. just the music.
Picard asks; "Then you all speak for Riva?" Together, all three answer yes. The scholar states; "We convey not only his words, but his emotional intent as well." Troi explains Riva's "Chorus" serve as translators, each represents an archetype of the man's personality. The Scholar represents Riva's intellect, philosophy and logic, the Warrior his libido and passion, and the Woman his wisdom and harmony.
Here's somthing about 'Far Cry'. He say's he used a 18 watt combo to do Far Cry. an 18 watt combo. my amps 90watt and still can't do the sound he produces.
Also in the mag 'GuitarPlayer' there's an interviw with alex about the album and he said that he hooked up with gilmour. and he also said that's the first time he heard him play. you won't belive that, it's true. there are loads of facts about alex in the mag that you won't belive
if you check special thanks to people you'll notice Gilmour's name. He said in a interview i saw on TV the day after the album came out. he said He and gilmnour made the piece together putting bit's together as they go along.
They just get better, don't they? I saw them in Atlanta, Tampa, Saratoga, and Jones Beach. Looking forward to MSG and Toronto. I've added my video response, a tribute to my friend, Ron. He died during the making of it.
In music, a solo is a piece or a section of a piece played or sung by a single performer (solo is an Italian word literally meaning alone). (Wikipedia).
If you want to think of it that way, then they do a lot of solos, because of the individual rythms. A solos is also defined as a seperate rythm or a musical neuance by a single player.
I just don't really consider this a solo for some reason. Its amazing!
My wife said the same thing..I guess, 2 tours in a row, burn it out...Alex also, hasn't done any acoustics by himself for a long, long time...I saw them 3 times this years. 6/29. 7/2 and 7/6 !!!!! Ya hoooo

Alex is truly amazing.
Long live Alex Lifeson.
azariah316 4 years ago

and B. hes alex lifeson nuff said
JoeGuitarGuy 4 years ago
wow, do you really think so.
You don't think i already knew that.
A. I know my 90watt isn't gonna sound the same from the fact that mine's a Fender and his is a Marshell.
B. i posted this comment more than 3 months ago, and they always say that there's at least one who will reply.
oh, and just to add to the point. i've had my amp adjusted and my pedal settings changed so know it does sound like alex lifeson.

i love this piece. i'll tell you something Lifeson really know's how to make a classic.
2 facts i'd like to share.
1. The album reached 2nd in charts without any advertisment on tv, radio or papers.
2. did you know David Gilmour and Alex lifeson made this piece together.
azariah316 4 years ago
are you sure on fact number 2? I think I read on the album somewhere that Alex didn't get any help.
jfhidakatsu 4 years ago
You're right. Alex wrote it alone.

This song was written and performed by Alex's son Lerxst on the Snakes And Arrows album...most moving song on the album IMHO(=0)
cmrock456 4 years ago
Alex IS Lerxst. Lerxst is just one of Alex's nicknames, it's not his son's name.
